Imam Malik was asked by a man: “you narrate a hadith yet you give fatwa opposite to it?” To which he replied “i narrate that Hadith so that people like you don’t come up to me and say I didn’t know the hadith.” To have no madhab and for everyone to become a mujtahid is a fitnah.
