Loading a wireframe without any content to make a page load quick is one of the worst trends in modern web dev. Sure, FCP and LCP happen at 2.2s and 2.4s, but when the actual data doesn't load till 7.2s I… don't care. Maybe fix the things that make _that_ slow?

@AstroKatie The _only_ argument against it, in my view, is availability of the vaccine. For other vaccines, that’s rarely a problem. For SARS-CoV-2, supply of the vaccine is still very much constrained, and near nonexistent in many countries, perpetuating that inequality.

This site features: 5MB of JS on the critical path, sent over the wire, without compression, 4MB of which isn't used for page load. (And honestly, I want to know what they're doing even with the 1MB!) And that's before we get into any of the analytics scripts…

Fuck this shit. Many of the best engineers I know in the Bay Area are women and are none of these; if you constantly need to justify your existence in the industry to those like the author it’s exceptionally hard to be weak. They’re as entitled to their jobs as the men alongside.
