We are edging closer to something very exciting!
An ANIMATED adaptation of Griots Tell No Lies!
OUT in OCTOBER 2024 📅
Watch it FREE on YOUTUBE 🎥
A simple traditional hunter is walking around with a few daggers, gourd strapped to his back, leather pouch covered in geometric design, a quiver of poisoned arrows and an amulet with inscriptions warding off evil.
This is the history that inspired one of my favourite characters from the book, Lokre. Raogo’s herald and translator. A key part of a very emotionally charged plot line
An originally Manding subgroup who assimilated into Mossi society "the Yarse", descendants of Muslim merchants who migrated to the area during the 17th century where they set up trade.
They intermarried with the Mossi, adopted the culture/language but not the Mossi religion.
Most people don’t know the word Sofa has its origin in the Mali Empire’s military. In the beginning, only free men were allowed to fight in the army, and enslaved people (Sofa) only served a supporting logistical role. But as the empire grew in the 14th century… A THREAD 🪡🧵
Thank you very much for the shoutout!!
It is our dream to bring the rich history of West Africa to all of us who are tired of the same slavery films and stories.
We are currently ranked as Best Seller on Amazon Kindle for Black & African American Historical Fiction 🍾🎉

The Mossi were amongst the most impressive horse riders in the West African Savannah and there's not much content about them.
“Griots Tells No Lies" is a fantastic book by

highlighting Mossi culture and history via a historical fiction
With the release of House of the Dragon season 2, we asked AI to show us what the characters of Griots Tell No Lies would look like in a TV/Film adaptation, and the results are rather interesting 👀 A THREAD 🧵
I am considering creating a graphic novel or animated series version of my book Griots Tell No Lies, so I am really looking for an illustrator and/or animator who would like to join this project. Paid opportunity of course. Any recommendations please tag 🙏🏿

Contrary to popular anti black rhetoric and historic revisionism, the Mali Empire did not participate directly in the gold producing or slavery industries. Rather, their revenue came from the taxes and tariffs they applied to the merchants travelling via their trade routes.
Mansa Musa is recorded in the Tarikh al Sudan for buying slaves just to set them free, amongst other acts of generosity he was renowned for. Why would a reputed slave trader buy more slaves just to free them?
Happy October and

Griots Tell No Lies (Griots, Heavens and Earth Trilogy)
I would strongly recommend Cheikh Anta Diop and Robin Walker for purely academic literature, and my book, Griots Tell No Lies if you prefer a more entertaining and dramatised read
Would have loved to be part of this workshop to share some nuggets about Mansa Musa’s empire… I learned so much about it whilst researching for my book

Heather Agyepong as Guessrima
@heatha_a
Sophisticated and charismatic. Another potential show stealer. Every bit of acting I’ve watched from Heather screams Guessrima to me
Tosin Cole as Sidiki Diabaté
@TosinCole
Sidiki is a very layered and nuanced character. One of my personal favourites. Tosin is could do it like nobody else can!
@Al_Sanghanawi
You do understand that it is an AI generated image for some fun right? It is not historically accurate commissioned art.
PS the book these images are inspired by (Griots Tell No Lies) is centred around the Mossi, you should read it 😊
It was a very challenging but pleasant experience to try to encapsulate the might and complexity of the Mali Empire within my story. I hope one day people will read my book and critique it for what it is, I want to know if I did a good job 😅
Political organisation and Economy of the Mali Empire:
The Mali empire is well known and often associated for its gold and wealth obtained by its rulers but how did the empire function. How was trade conducted and these minerals obtained. A delve -
Jayme Lawson as Sona
Black, Beautiful, talented. Jayme has shown she has the range and depth to offer the most gracious depiction of this key character
… Sofa began to be used in fighting as deadly infantry units of highly skilled archers trained and equipped by the state. Their effectiveness and reliability caused them to progressively become the main bulk of the imperial army. With the passing of time… (2/3)

As a UK Black Author myself I’d say, we can change this narrative. I self-published in April on Amazon, independently. I made it into Amazon’s Top 100 lists and I have been getting sales almost everyday since! There are loads of people out there open to read from Black Authors,
Despite the industry’s efforts to embrace diversity and inclusion, sales figures for Black authors remain underwhelming according to the latest data from Nielsen 👇
… by the rise of Samory Toure in the 19th century, these warriors no longer fought with bow and arrow, but had adopted firearms. The term Sofa became synonymous with soldier amongst those societies with cultural, political and ethnic Mandinka heritage (3/3)
I would strongly recommend Cheikh Anta Diop and Robin Walker for purely academic literature, and my book, Griots Tell No Lies if you prefer a more entertaining and dramatised read
I came across a YouTube video presenting an “African Scholar” who claims to expose and heavily criticise the history of Islam in West Africa. I couldn’t help but to expose (ironically) how the whole video was a load of intellectually dishonest garbage. Your thoughts? 💭
@TosinCole
Lakeith Stanfield as Noaga
As soon as you notice the internal conflicts this character faces, it becomes obvious that this is a perfect fit for Lakeith
@TheUltrahBurnah
Also bear in mind that the trans Saharan slave trade predates Arabs themselves. It was first dominated by Romans and Carthage. These entities were still being supplied with enslaved people by African states which practiced indigenous beliefs since antiquity.
@TheUltrahBurnah
Sakura was an African. Yes he became Mansa but the translation of how he was a slave is not entirely clear. Nonetheless, the Mamluks literally went from slave soldiers to rulers of Egypt? I am far from an Arab apologist. I’m just pointing out the clear intellectual dissonance
This image reminds me of Rialé, the elephant hunter who married the warrior princess Yennenga. Their son Ouedraogo would be the founder of the Mossi Kingdoms which still exist today in Burkina Faso!
Tosin Cole as Sidiki Diabaté

@Al_Sanghanawi
Ohh fair enough, I appreciate that brother. Please educate me though, you said Mossis didn’t use saddles? How true is that? When I did my research I didn’t find this to be the case
@LionClanChief
I don’t want to tell you much because I don’t want to spoil what happens in my book 😅😂 but trust me, look him up. Another one to research is Tiramakhan Traore
@MousLafrapp3
The memories of a slaughter he once witnessed, as he dreads having to return to the brutality of war… I can’t say more without running into spoilers for the book 😅 you should give it a chance!
Heather Agyepong as Guessrima
@heatha_a

@SAHELlAN
Thank you so much 🤍 I am very excited for you to read it!
We made a playlist on Spotify with music for those who may want to play it in the background whilst reading, immersing themselves further in this beautiful world
@100003_brapp
No, it is not. It’s a standard novel. It comes with 4 detailed maps so you can better follow the story though. The images you see are for marketing purposes, although a graphic novel version is a very interesting idea 💡 which I will explore in the future… 💭
