Not just footwork but all of dance music. It’s safe to say that without Rashad and the music he made and championed dance music would be unrecognizable today. So many of us work under the influence of what he gave us. Rashad touched dance music like no one ever had
Today marks the 8th anniversary of the legendary DJ Rashad's passing. The Chicago producer was one of the main catalysts behind the rise of the footwork genre in the 2010s, pulling in new fans from all around the world. Here is a thread of our favourite Rashad tracks.
I’m worried that a list w 1300 black artists is probably a bit intimidating to look at. I hope that your support of black artists continues farther than just a bandcamp day
Frankie started a booking agency which I would argue has been the most influential thing to happen to the business of dance music since it started. Then she went on and put together a festival to highlight the many black electronic music artists that are directly around her. Wow
i think that a rough part of (trying) to DJ is that something that used to be pure joy and pleasure (the rave) is no longer that and suddenly a place of high stress & anxiety. (am i cool enough, why didn't i get booked, was that interaction weird, did i say the wrong thing. etc.)
If your mad that RA and other outlets are covering BLACK artists who have always been there while you, someone used to getting coverage, are seeing your coverage drop. Please consider quitting for a year at least and have a think about why you’re doing this other than the bag
i wasn't even going to Bossa like that anymore but having a spot that played house and techno 7 days a week 10p - 4a and facilitated that many DJs getting to DJ/host parties and create individualism amongst a crowded dance scene is something you can't find anywhere else
to the i miss clubbing crew: you have no idea how many jobs in music have been lost and will not come back. Booking agents, journos, label PR people and a number of jobs that ppl have been working their entire adult lives at just disappeared over night.
If I hear any of you slip up and say DJ Nigga Fox name out loud just cuz he playing nowadays this weekend it’s gonna be 😤😤😤🤬🤬🤬.
That is DJ N word Fox to you
There is a legit a techno Twitter and a techno ig. They are two distinctly different places. Ig is where European techno influencers can post insensitive pics and vids and recieve praise for nothing. Then they try to come to twitter w that and get smacked around
Fuck these normies going to bars w out masks everyday while we continue to break covid records while night life ppl stay losing money unable to participate in their professions because mfkers can’t stay at home for a bit.
been practicing a lot ever since i saw theo speak and he said "if you're not practicing you're not sharp and if you're not sharp you don't care"
straight from the legends mouth. not much else to say
Ok home fr. Almost got snatched twice tonight. Once while apart of the group and I want to thank all the protesters the came up and shielded me from the cops. Another when they broke us up. Thankfully he had his had on my bag and not my shirt. This used to be a bag
i have reached peak socialist. everyone deserves 1k a week for basic needs. healthcare must be free. families of four deserve 200k income when kids reach 18 (for example). and if you want to work on top of that you still deserve that 1k a week. fight me
White DJs claiming racism for getting criticized on social media without attempting to have a dialogue or empathy for people on the other side of their position. What’s it like to get to do whatever u want no matter how many ppl ask you to question yrself a bit?
White roommates of black and poc ppl usually don’t recognize the space they take up or casual violence they impose on house mates on a day to day basis
so this is super surreal to me but i did a mix for the Fader and you can listen to it now ++ i wrote some thing about living & raving in Brooklyn and about my old friend Cherushii. thanks to Rawiya for having me. i'm gonna go cry now 😇
video game music is literally so important and so good and then you show some "music person" a track and tell them its from a video game and get one of these 🙄
There are a number of outside agents working with police to undermine the actual movement going on. Look at this unhinged post from one of the groups who have been scooping up unassuming groups of protesters at Barclays and Mccaren park daily. Wtf kind of nonsense
Hear me out… discogs and bandcamp should merge. One has a great physical music database and a great search engine and one has a great digital music database and a shit search engine….
Giving out million dollar ideas for free cuz I love love
Lmao when someone tried to argue that 99 cents is too much for a song. Why do people hate paying for music so much do y’all just want algorithms to make the sounds you don’t pay attention to as you go about your drinking?
Hi to my friends and ppl that contact me. I know I have been very slow and or non responsive. Depression is like a syrup that you get stuck in. I really appreciate messages and invites that take into account my sometimes crippling social anxiety. Plz don’t take it personally
Lmao it’s wild how Americans can get vaxxed and tweet about how everything’s all good and summer is saved when plenty of countries who don’t have the finances to buy this life saving serum en mass are looking at another year or more of this. But like good for you
The fact that some of y’all haven’t booked
@aliberger_DR5
in nyc is a crime. Killer DJ, who produced 150 traxx in the year 2021 + the go to person to mix/master yr shit ++ mad nice and humble
Personally I think folks are scared of Ali cuz my man is literally too talented!
Unemployment day 48: I have repaired my sleep schedule and have coffee breakfast music and a book in front of my by 11am. First unemployment check just hit. A spliff is slowly rolled. Temporarily but fully time is my own
It’s baffling how any of these anonymous mfks have the balls to even @ her because they clearly don’t have the sense to look up and see how she’s given so much of her time and energy to create DJ booths and dance floors that truly reflect diversity of the music and ppl we love
