Unpopular opinion: State of origin is over milked. Hear me out. I love the concept and watch every match every year, but have the 3 games played over 5 weeks plus time in camp and the effect on NRL sides and having only 4 NRL games over the weekend actually dilutes it’s appeal.

I'm all in on the NRL trying to squeeze a few extra tens of millions of dollars out of the USA. But can we please invest a large chunk of that money in to grassroots, country and international footy and not just give NRL players and clubs a top up.

Both origin coaches should name their teams on the Sunday night live on fox league. Make a tv event out of it like the NFL draft. NSW naming theirs via press release on Sunday evening and QLD naming theirs Monday morning is amateur hour stuff.

Leichhardt doesn’t need an upgrade. It would lose its charm. Campbelltown needs a rebuild for both the NRL and A-League teams. Road & Rail links and parking is already established. Tigers can then play 8 games at Campbelltown and 4 at Leichhardt.

So @dolphinsnrl managed to build this northern stand & upgrade a nearby field for just $6.5m. 3170 seats, new changerooms, video scoreboard, new food/drink & toilets for spectators. Yet Leichardt Oval needs over $100m for the same outcomes. Just build one on their southern end.

@9_Moley If you break a contract you must pay a 25% exit fee. So if you are contracted at the Warriors for 2024 on $500k a year and you seek a release now, the Warriors can grant a release, but the player has to pay 25% of the contract value ($125k) to the football club.

At an U11 game on Saturday I had a parent yell at me from outside the fence telling me to remind the referee I was coaching to stick to the 10 metre rule. He didn't believe me that it was only 5 metres until U15s. If you don't know the laws of kids sport, just be quiet.

I’m always baffled that Ireland can be so good at Rugby Union yet aren’t as strong at Rugby League. There must be 1000s of Irish kids struggling at RU that would blossom with the extra space & time that RL provides. GAA/Hurling players could play a role too.

So Samoa are all done now. Aus And NZ still have 2 matches against eachother back to back. Tonga and England haven’t even started their series yet. Not a fan of tri series. Give me 4-5 weekends of stand alone Tests. Play against a wider mix of opponents.

3 of this weekends 5 @NRLWomens games are on at the same time as @nrl games. Seems really foolish competing against yourself for a tv audience. Could have held games at: Sat 11am, 1pm Sun 10am, 12pm, 6pm Or even Monday 7pm (as the Harvey Norman women’s premiership was).

I hate the argument that AFL and Super rugby take over when the NRL has stand alone origin weekends. That’s BS. Most NRL fans can’t stand the other codes and will hardly be won over. When there’s no live NRL games on I prefer to watch old replays of NRL games.

@PhilGould15 why doesn’t the NRL just allow a 20% salary cap exemption for local juniors? Bulldogs junior earns a $300k a year contract. Only $240k goes towards their salary cap. Could grow to 30% after 5 years and 50% or more after 10 years.

Why not start a rugby league competition that is affiliated with these colleges and teach them to play Rugby League if they don’t make their US football squads. It won’t be perfect at first, but It won’t take them long to pick it up with the right coaches and officials.
