Jerry Jeff Walker has passed away at the age of 78.
Shook. This is a monumental loss. More to come in the coming days with articles, playlists, tributes and memorials.
Thoughts and prayers to Susan, Django and the entire Walker/Gonzo family.

🎵 Well, I played ball every single fall I could run just like the wind
Went to college like they asked me too but they didn't ask my friends
Don't think I seen a single classroom but I drank a lot of beer…🎵

64 years ago this week at a joint called the Cotton Club in Lubbock, some guy named Elvis played a gig that had an unknown local opener named Buddy Holly. THAT is Texas Music history friends.
A pirate looks at 76. Adios Jimmy. What a massive legacy of song and life he leaves behind.
Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all

doc on HBO is phenomenal. Raw. Real. Creative. It’s the real deal type of music doc. Gritty. Warts and all. Shows the process and the soul. It’s no Behind the Music gloss job. Super cool. Go stream that shit now.
RIP Justin Townes Earle.
He lived a life not indifferent from his namesake and blood. And much like those who formed him, his music will live on.

His official socials are posting the news.
And another one. Hal Ketchum has passed away at the age of 67 from complications of dementia.
He’s gone where love lives and claimed his mansion of gold. RIP Hal.
Charley Pride has passed away at age 86.
The word legend is tossed around too easily, but Mr. Pride truly fit the bill. He kicked down doors of inequality and racism. He made tremendously impactful and memorable music. And he did it all with a smile. A true hero.
We’ve seen the logo. We’ve heard the rumors. Trusted people have said positive things. We will wait for something to be official before commenting. But we are thankful for the emotion, music and possibilities.
For those questioning the veracity of our post, please know we don’t make a habit out of posting bullshit nonsense. We are heartbroken. This is unfortunately real. And sad. Charlie was a legend in his own time and a founding father.
Props to the Grammys for including Charlie Robison during their in memoriam segment tonight. Charlie popped up shortly after Randy Meissner and Jimmy Buffett during a beautiful rendition of “Nothing Compares 2U” by Annie Lennox.
Sturgill announced on the Joe Rogan podcast that he's going on a full blown tour in 2020. Starting in February and with Tyler Childers as the opening act. That sounds about perfect.
Doug Supernaw has passed away after a long battle.
His album, Red and Rio Grande, is a TX Music classic. He was a character and he lived life hard. His music has been forgotten in conversations about some of the 90's Country best, but it should not be. He was a Texas original.

2018. The first one. Charlie had been to Key West before. And he showed us all the way. Including this ride on the back of Jack’s moped. Life of the party indeed.
John Prine has left this mortal coil. Their is a massive hole where creativity, genius and art once lived. His impact was enormous.

His feet will never touch the ground again as the gruff looking soulful teddy bear we all knew as The Red Dirt Legend has become a timeless angel. Brandon Jenkins was as real as real gets. A trailblazer. An amazing songwriter. An even better human. We will all miss him greatly.
Brandon Jenkins would’ve turned 49 today. We all miss his spirit as much as his songwriting. Thankful for the tunes, stories and memories he left behind.
In light of all of our loving memories of Kylie Rae Harris, let us not forget the other victim of this tragic accident, Maria Elena Cruz. Just 16 and by all accounts the type of big-hearted, bright futured teenager we all aspire to be surrounded by in this country.
Last night in Seattle, Wade and Stoney dedicated their show to Kylie Rae. Stoney got a Kylie tattoo that is so fresh you can still see the tape on it. And Wade left an unattended mic onstage and remarked, “She's always hopping up on stage anyway.”

When Dimebag died, Eddie flew to Arlington carrying a guitar. Not just any guitar but the yellow and black one from VH2. Not a recreation. The exact one. He put it in the casket with Dime and remarked “an original should have an original.”
From the Archives — we first posted this upon Charlie’s 2018 retirement. But the sentiment fits today more than ever. We will have a new story to post tomorrow. Until then…
Yesterday
@RandyRogersBand
celebrated a birthday and today Rollercoaster turns 15. For our money, it’s still the benchmark for albums in the Texas/Red Dirt scene. What’s your favorite track or memory from this record?
Big Texas day at the HLSR. George Strait is playing. And he’s got two guys named Keen and Lovett opening the show. Another guy named Gary P. is playing the Hideout. You ask me what I like about Texas?

news is a testament to DIY determination. That entire camp has worked their ass off to get this opportunity. Poised to go even bigger and all the pieces seem to be in place at the right time. The music will meet the moment.
This live cut of “Tonight” is Charlie Robison at his best. Always been a fav. When you’re 16, Schaefer Beer IS damn good. He’s singing Bruce and talking about Bandera…but really it’s any 3A and under size town in the south.
She reflects the world in happiness and echoes all the pain
Her smile's a world of sunrise and cries to make it rain
And she hides the truth discretely, but you'd have to take her word
Aw she's every song I've ever heard
Can someone check and see if Red Rocks is still standing today? There was a tornado warning there last night. Strangely, it started in Tahlequah, OK and called itself Turnpike Troubadours.

James White was part of the fabric in Austin and by proxy Texas music. He kept the lights on at the Broken Spoke for years and years. The landscape changed around him both metaphorically and literally, yet he never did. RIP Mr. White.
LJT starts now. Gas up your livers. Open your ears. Live like hippies. Take care of your neighbors. Use the Jesus vans. Eat chicken on a stick for breakfast. Shut up at the acoustic stage. Rage at the big stage. Find a new artist you dig.
@texasmusicfest
It’d be cool if folks would share the musical moments from LJT with the same savage enthusiasm they’re sharing the debauched and gross shenanigans.
True music fans are out there by the thousands, including some from our GW team. Keep chasing the tunes, we see you.
A GoFundMe has been set up for Kylie Rae's family to cover funeral expenses etc and build a college fund for Corbie. Please share and donate if you are able.

In the early spring of 2010, a friend of ours from Stillwater sent us a DM telling us to check out her friend’s band. They had just cut a new record produced by Mike McClure and she thought we would dig it.

Maren Morris and any other artist can do whatever he/she damn well pleases. It’s not their job to fit into a genre. It’s their calling to produce what speaks to them & follow the muse wherever it leads. It is the audience that determines boundaries & it really doesn’t matter.
