circulating this idea that people are over it feels very inaccurate to me there were 25k marching in just manhattan yesterday. from my perspective momentum has been building not dwindling.
Soooo BLM got a week of attention and y’all over it now? Getting those cops charged was only one part to a significantly larger plan. Please don’t stop. Please don’t quit. Keep fighting, keep signing, keep donating
white people in techno can’t admit their part in its racist erasure because to do that would mean to relinquish their power, mobility, money and control of the scene. thats literally the reason.
I just got off the phone with John in regards to bossa, he told me the fire was above bossa, bossa didn’t burn but the water damage and the damage to the whole building means it won’t be opening for a very long time and may not reopen at all but still figuring this out.
we were so honored to book the legendary k-hand for our first discwoman party in detroit in 2015, she showed us such grace as newbies to the scene. a certified icon whose contribution to electronic music cannot be understated, rip to the first lady of detroit xoxo
this shit makes me so depressed and makes me want to stop. what the fuck is the point is standing up for anything, when someone being offensive only gets rewarded. fuck u guys
Thanks for everyone who’s said such sweet things, as i was on the edge of a cliff. I’m not even joking. Writing this helped a lot. Feel free to share wherever.
it’s actually bonkers to think about how lana del rey felt her only use for her platform -in a pandemic disproportionately affecting black people- was to ask people to recognize her white fragile existence
Had the honor of interviewing Jeff Mills for
@dkmntl
. One of the most profound parts was asking Jeff about how he feels being considered a legend, reiterating no matter how much success you experience as a Black artist, racism is a constant. Read:
To the people who fought for Elizabeth Warren, most especially the women and young girls out there, a reminder: You owe no one anything right now. Allow yourself the space to grieve, and be angry, and be numb. Take the time. Take all of it that you need.
amelie beginning her covid rave post with “after almost 5 months of being home...” as if that’s some kind of sacrifice...with the amount of money you make you could easily sacrifice 5 more
capitalizing off of racism by creating a “fuck the bpm police” shirt in the middle of a fuck-the-actual-racist-police-because-they’re-killing-black-people movement whewww
Wikipedia should stop begging for $2 every month and just start selling merch. Gen-Z kids and 40-year-old creative directors who want to look cool would make them rich forever.
@NinaKraviz
i can’t believe you’re actually going to the extent of co-opting the experience of racism as a way of deflecting a discussion about white privilege. as a black person who’d been a supporter of yours, this is sad. luckily for you, your yes fans will make you think this is ok
did not foresee this week going like this lmao but I have to say the weaponization of the word bullying by people of very big ages is a remarkable silencing tactic
i went to buy a slice of cake and the cashier said “we actually don’t sell slices anymore we sell cake in mason jars which are on the shelf behind you”...brooklyn needs to be stopped
in this industry you have legendary producers who can hide their abusiveness in their success, clout and supporters or underground label head/promoters who can hide their abusiveness in community, progressiveness and obscurity.
tbt to when shyboi, akua and i were at berghain and this white woman with braids said to us “are we in the same gang?” she then tried to apologize after but messaged the wrong black person 💀
Constructively speaking, i feel like a lot of these clubs/promoters/festivals would benefit from grappling with their own events. We have time, so as an exercise go over the line ups you’ve booked and see if the amount of black artists you’ve booked is acceptable or embarrassing.
thank you for 8 years of Discwoman. we've experienced more thru this project than we could've imagined. we're evolving away from the platform of Discwoman to focus solely on the agency & roster talent at
@dwartists
. ty for all the love & support over the yrs. AMPLIFY EACH OTHER
to have a black man publicly absolve the government’s neglect of its most vulnerable communities by stating black/latino people just aren’t healthy is so calculated, disgusting and racist.
today is my grandma’s 90th birthday she’s been quarantining alone in the Bronx this entire time so was super emotional to see but couldn’t stay a long time. so happy she’s still here and was able to ask why my dress was so short and wtf my tattoos were about haha ❤️🇯🇲
at the end of the day no one is stopping you from playing any unmasked undistanced party you want to play, i know you want return to the privilege of playing business techno in peace, but you can’t sincerely expect people shut up and stop being critical and concerned about safety
I wrote something about this weekend that i wanted to share. I didn’t take any pictures during the whole of
@dwellerforever
lol cos I looked I was dying half the time so this is me before five days of raving lmao.
if you think im getting into twitter combat over the origins of techno you are very mistaken so please take your white-canadian-founder theory elsewhere :*
my mum likely contracted covid (she will be fine) from her husband who won’t get paid if he’s not physically at work and can’t not work because there’s no financial support, so it spreads. the magnitude of this government’s failure is so fucking grim and depraved.
i don’t know why anyone would bother try and preserve industry relationships as there won’t be much of one left so you may as well fight for someone other than yourself
