Just to clarify. 50% means closed, means cancel nearly everything, means pretty much stop operating again after a year and half of hell, wave goodbye to all your hard work and perseverance.
Dad passed away last August. He was cremated @ Glasnevin. We played I Say A Little Prayer as he left us. Aretha had passed two days earlier. Nearly one year later i’m crying side of stage as the man who wrote that song performed it live @ Iveagh Gardens. Burt Bacharach Forever x
Foggy Notions is an independent Irish company. There's just 3 core members (& many collaborators). We're determind to stay optimistic and rebuild something positive out of the pandemic because we are committed to music and art. Thank you for your support x
Anticipating announcement at 6pm. A genuinely very anxious day for many as their livelihoods hang in the balance at the mercy of a floundering government. It’s a good time to be empathetic. If authorities don’t support us we must support each other.
Around 2007 / 2008 Daniel Johnston played several shows in Dublin
@Vicar_Street
and
@whelanslive
Accompanied by his brother and minder Dick, Daniel brought an all-star band of great musicians and songwriters to Whelan’s on July 27th and 28th.
we have a website. it will be updated regularly with news of announced concerts, rescheduling, other projects, festivals and events we are working on. Website is by the wonderful David Connaughton. Please subscribe to our newsletter and spread the word x
i wish venues and theatres in Dublin would open their doors to afternoon all ages shows on Saturdays without imposing restrictive overheads to compensate smaller bar sales. Invest in the future!
Some days it’s utterly demoralising, constantly rescheduling, constantly reinventing plans, trying to invest in hope and excitement and not fear and anxiety.
RIP Larry Gogan - used to play cassette demos by underground Irish rock bands on daytime radio in the 90s when the so-called “cool” DJs wouldn’t touch them. Didn’t know him but always seemed like a great guy.
Would someone like to write the email I send to international agents explaining what is happening in Ireland for me? because I’m not quite sure where to start
Some thoughts on the live music industry...
The momentum of the live industry is currently fuelled by a somewhat unscientific optimism as to when / if it will come back to the full capacity gathering format we are accustomed to.
Devastatingly sad news about Scott Hutchinson. For anyone with dark thoughts, depressive and suicidal feelings you may be surprised the lengths other people will go to help you. And how much you, in turn, have to offer them. They are out there. I found them.
Mainstream Irish radio has long since being dictated by a dead-in-the-eyes capitalist advertising tempo. Alienated alternative shows & box-ticking all-Irish shows were never the answer. This model is not fit for programming exciting new music. We’re looking to the wrong people.
best wishes to
@PMcLoone
big supporter of Irish and independent music on national radio. Sad to see mainstream radio further distance itself from any form of underground, niche, independent music when really it should be going in the other direction right now.
This is devastating and will hit a lot of music fans hard. One of the true greats has passed away. All our love and condolences to
@lowtheband
truly heartbroken. Mimi Parker rip.
Friends, it’s hard to put the universe into language and into a short message, but
She passed away last night, surrounded by family and love, including yours. Keep her name close and sacred. Share this moment with someone who needs you. Love is indeed the most important thing.
One great privilege of my career was to promote a Burt Bacharach show in Dublin in July 2019. Had been in love with his work from a young age. Not only was the concert wonderful, Burt, aged 91 at the time, was kind and generous, chatted with fans for hours afterwards. RIP BB ❤️
it's great to be back properly after 2 years. it's going to be chaotic for awhile as we get everything back up and running. in the meantime, most of our ticket links are listed here and we'd love your support with advance sales as they really help.
Really enjoyed that very brief window in Nov/Dec when we got to do shows with Black Midi, Loraine James, Fears, John Francis Flynn, Pigs, Pretty Happy, Junior Brother, Ichiko Aoba, Villagers, Mantua, Anna B Savage.
i wish venues and theatres in Dublin would open their doors to afternoon all ages shows on Saturdays without imposing restrictive overheads to compensate smaller bar sales. Invest in the future!

Proud of my Mother, a 72-year old mass-attending Catholic voting Yes today. And all the other people of faith who voted with their conscience for the protection and equality of Irish women, despite the stereotypes and influences that surround them.

I imagine a lot of people in Ireland probably just found out they lost their job again. Or the business they've spent 18 months preparing to relaunch isn't happening. Or they just lost a lot of money and work through cancellations. Nice timing on the day PUP is reduced.

If you’re a David Berman man living in Dublin, there’s a grimy framed photo of him just inside the door of
@whelanslive
on Wexford Street, just to the left. The Silver Jews played there on May 16th 2008. A beautiful show. Pop in and pay your respects if you’re walking that way. X
I interviewed Scratch for No Disco. It was an abstract experience to say the least. He anointed me with some oils and put a blessing on me. Or possibly a curse… now that I think of it.
We enjoyed the privilege of working with 203 artists & bands in 2023. Thanks to everyone who performed, attended and worked on the events. Wishing you a peaceful and happy new year. X
The people who put the boot into artists who've had to cancel or reschedule shows (or both) really REALLY depress me. Seriously? After the shitshow everyone has been through and continues to endure.
We are truly honoured to present the Patti Smith Quartet for two shows on 27th & 28th June 2024 at Vicar Street.
Tickets go on general sale on Friday Dec 15th @ 10am
Massive thank you to

for allowing us to create Haunted Dancehall with them. NCH has been hosting innovative music decades but this weekend we did something different, changed the format. Huge love to all the artists, crew & everyone who came. 👻
Liam O’Flynn 💔 was a gift to this country, our music, our culture, our poetry. His playing was deeply mystic and his work is eternal. Rest in peace, Liam.

This week we have shows with Mitski, Low, Divide and Dissolve, Shellac, M[h]aol, Claire Rousay, Tindersticks, John Francis Flynn and Aoife Nessa Frances. 💅
Such incredibly sad news to wake up to. It was a pleasure working with him. He often said Ireland was his favourite country. John was a gifted writer and a gentle soul. Love to Fiona and Mitch and all his family. 💔
Extremely sad to hear of the passing of John Reynolds. A real innovator, adventurer and chance-taker. And a nice man. He paid his own respects to my father two months ago. RIP, John.

Just over six months ago Mimi had us under her spell in Dublin, as documented here by James. She had a voice and a presence that made time stand still. The fragility of life and our connection to music never felt so profound.
A document to say
@lowtheband
played Dublin's
@Vicar_Street
26 Apr 2022, one of the great,great bands. Music comes from a place no one else has visited.Mimi's voice is such a pure,magnificent sound.Always such a pleasure and wonder to see the band play.

🎶In the last three days I have seen shows from The Mary Wallopers, Ami Dang, The Weather Station, Mega Bog, Pretty Happy and Cate Le Bon. I am well and truly spiritually and emotionally nourished. 🎶
The music industry and it’s connected crossover businesses and the arts world in general is facing very real devastation right now with very little clear and practical support from government in terms of how we might prepare for a future return to activity and what assistance...
Exciting news: Godspeed You! Black Emperor play their first Irish show since 2016 @ National Stadium September 27th. Tickets on sale Friday 10am. Presented with

Dad passed away in the early hours. Thanks for all your messages of love and support. I found out yesterday from his only sibling Emily that he had a twin…
Very, very sad to hear the news of the passing of Joe Nicholson, a man many Dublin gig goers will know from the door of
@whelanslive
I’ve known Joe since the mid 1990's and shared many pints and stories with him through the years... , loved hearing his tales of tour managing...
It’s with a heavy heart that we bring you the sad news that our beloved Joe Nicholson (right) passed away last night after a short illness. Joe will be known to many, as he was the keeper of the gate so to speak, manning our box office vigilantly.
He will be sorely missed. RIP
started the day by going to a gig at 9am, watched 3 young musicians roll onto stage with sleep in their eyes and perform a devastatingly original, noisey, and theatrical 15 minute set. felt like i was at something special. had a small cry.
Tonight the mighty
@LankumDublin
takeover
@AbbeyTheatre
A huge amount of energy, imagination, money, hustling, collaboration, community spirit and hard work has gone into creating this unique event, an enduring piece of art and, most importantly, an absolute national disgrace.
Fancy a pint? Customers at a bar in Tokyo are asked to step into a machine to be sprayed with a mist of disinfectant for 30 seconds to minimise the risk of spreading Covid-19
An all-ages venue in a dublin is so doable. There’s enough of us who know how to run it, book it, insure it, make it safe and functional. All we need is the support of an authority who cares or a developer with soul (big ask, I know).
“Whose your favourite band?”
Some lovely audience footage, a noisy finale, an extended guitar tune up and a full on version of ‘Highwayman’ from the 2nd EP.
The Project Art Centre, Dublin, 1991. .
Thanks to Feilim Lawless for sharing this..
Mitski was incredible. So many first-time concert goers. Incredible age range. Got a real sense she’s a sort of lighthouse for a lot of those kids too. Performance is divine. What a lovely night. 🌹
four shows in seven days with Loraine James, Black Midi, John Francis Flynn & Fears all doing their own uniquely brilliant thing. it's nice to be back.
Staring at paintings. My mental health nosedived in June 2018 and on the suggestion of my friend
@swench
during panic attacks I found focusing on paintings, something beautiful or even something confusing helped stop the anxiety spiral.
#WorldMentalHealthDay
One of my favourite pop myths is that Robert Smith wrote the lyrics for The Cure’s Disintegration album while staying at the Bray Head Hotel, inspired by the fading romance of the late 1980s Wicklow seaside facade.
