They did this at my school. In about 1983. Someone (dentist? Teacher? Lollipop lady?) bought in those plaque disclosing tablets that show the areas you miss when you brush. We all learned, we went about our business a little healthier, no one wrote about it in the tabloids.
How is helping kids to brush their teeth a bad thing? What am I missing?
If you already do it, great, but their are other kids who donโt have the luxury of owning their own toothbrush.
While weโre putting security tags on cheese & Lenor, you can spare me the dramatics x

I always take my birthday off work. I have a lie in, open presents and cards, go for a swim, read a new book and eat cake.
I love spending the day alone and thinking about the past year and what Iโd like the next year to include.
Itโs my day. Why would I spend it at work?
one of my Dadโs employees asked for their birthday off and my dad said โwhy? Did your wife get you a clown?โ my Dad had to go to a sensitivity class and apologize to him in front of everyone.

Six years, 22 drafts - and I'm done!!!
My second novel, OTHER WOMEN, comes out in Feb 2023.
Like Little Deaths, it's based on a true story: a love triangle in 1920s London that ends in murder. It's about shame, fantasy and guilt - and I cannot wait for you to read it.

I didnโt know anyone working in a creative job when I was growing up (I went to a comprehensive in Newcastle)
And it held me back. I internalised a belief that โpeople like meโ donโt become writers.
Itโs really important that kids see โpeople like themโ making art and stories.
Because too often it isn't. Just 8% of people in film and TV come from a working-class background compared to 60% from upper-middle-class backgrounds. Journalism has a similar problem. It means the stories of working-class communities are rarely accurately or adequately told.

I am working on my novel. After every sentence I weep quietly into my pencil case, then walk around the room in search of meaning and solace. Be more like this kid, people.
My 8 yr old is working on his novel. After every sentence he says, 'Hell yeah! This is amazing!' then moonwalks round the room singing a verse or two from Smooth Criminal before continuing to type.
I can't help but think his process is way cooler than mine.
