I started to see the Egypt administration differently when I found out about this. Just cruel and heartless, how are they able to charge Palestinians an extortionate amount of money. On top of not doing anything to get the trucks full of aid across the Rafah border.
this clip profoundly hurts me since i realised that, this is the part of willem’s post-mortem where jude still sees willem doing activities around the house; drinking, moving the vase, walking—as if he was still alive—but he is not talking or looking at jude; because he’s dead.

you know what doesn’t end?
“You’re Jude St. Francis. You are my oldest, dearest friend. You’re the son of Harold Stein and Julia Altman. You’re the friend of Malcolm Irvine, of Jean-Baptiste Marion, of Richard Goldfar-
i’ve seen minors shitting on, for example, a little life just bc they were having a hard time processing the main character’s traumatic experiences. heavy themes shouldn’t be something you shrug off when you recommend it to literal minors, no matter how mature you think they are.
when i’m reading harold’s chapters it’s just really tender and sweet and beautiful how he’s referring to willem as ‘you’ and jude as ‘he’. how harold is trying to tell willem everything about jude’s current state and what harold feels about it. harold really loves them equally.

“my in-laws, Julia Altman and Harold Stein, for always making me feel like I was their son as well, and, finally and most important, Jude St. Francis, my best friend and the love of my life, for everything.”
“i’m jude,” he slurred. “i’m jude st. francis.” and then willem had run at him, and the last thing he had seen was willem drawing his fist back, and the last thing he had heard was the cracking of bone.
— the axiom of equality

Wild Flowers from Palestine (1899) gathered and pressed by Rev. Harvey B. Greene B. D.
“Your voiceless lips, O flowers, are living preachers. Each cup a pulpit and each leaf a book.”
my god, we be having this kind of “reading/liking books ≠ supporting problematic authors” discourse for at least once per two months and some of you still won’t learn anything about it. and i just knew this tweet came from an sjm reader.
thinking about when jude was replaying willem’s voice notes whilst also looking at the willem listening to jude tell a story painting so (perhaps) he can visualise him better… i am not well
He hoped they would forgive him; he hoped they would see that this was his apology to them. He was releasing them — he loved them most of all, and this was what you did for people you loved: you gave them their freedom.
The day came: a Monday at the end of September.
