Former Labour Parliamentary Candidate for South West Wiltshire.
Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing
Councillor for the ever changing Old Kent Road Ward
Proud to launched the Southwark Maternity report today. It’s harrowing that the risk of death during pregnancy is still so high for black & brown women. This is unacceptable & our new report details how councils, government & health partners can fix this
Absolutely Ridiculous to blame Harry and Megan for the Kings diagnosis.
I am just waiting for when natural disasters will also be blamed on the couple🙄
"What is a fact is that stress is a huge cause of cancer...I think that Prince Harry has to look at his part in this."
Royal Correspondent Victoria Mather suggests to @RachelSJohnson that 'Megxit' could be part of the reason King Charles is currently unwell with cancer.
I am excited & honoured to have been selected as Labour's Parliamentary candidate for South West Wiltshire.
After 14 years of stagnation & declining living standards, we need a new vision.
I want to work with the communities to make the Labour vision a reality. 🌹
I am standing to be Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Camberwell and Peckham.
Representing my community has always been a privilege.
It’s about understanding the needs of the community and being bold enough to do something about it.
Join me 👉🏻
I just want to again thank everyone who supported & encouraged me. I’m proud that I’ve inspired so many people in the community to stand up and be counted.
Congratulations to
@Miatsf
for being selected today as the candidate for Camberwell&Peckham.
Southwark is where I grew up and where I became a member of the Labour Party - I'm now proud to be standing as Labour’s candidate for the Lambeth & Southwark London Assembly elections 2020 - here’s why I’m standing and why Lambeth and Southwark need a strong voice
From my journey through the streets of Camberwell & Peckham to my current role as Cabinet Member - I’ve always used my lived experiences to implement policies that benefits the community and I will continue to do so as MP. So I’m excited to say that 👇🏽
To my small but mighty Labour team in
#SouthWestWiltshire
, our result is a monumental achievement. In just 6 weeks we’ve cut a 20k majority down to 3k. We have everything to be proud of.
Thank you to all who supported Labour. We will build on this! 🌹
It’s official. My nomination has been accepted by Wiltshire Council. I am officially the Labour Party candidate for beautiful South West Wiltshire. A huge thank you to my amazing agent.
On the 75th anniversary of the first arrivals from the HMT Empire Windrush,
We must never forget the sacrifice and contribution they made to rebuild this country when it was on its knees.
We must never forget
#Windrush75
What a glorious day to be invited to roam about in the Queens garden. When thinking of what to wear (which has preoccupied family conversations for a few months) I knew
#kente
was the only way!
I’m so glad that mum could enjoy this experience with me!
Amazing launch today at Trowbridge. Huge thank you to the amazing
@FloEshalomi
and my wonderful colleagues and supporters. Wiltshire South West is ready for a change, and that change is coming 🌹
From a young girl running around in the constituency to the adult representing my neighbours, friends & community as Cabinet member-my dream has always been to be their mouth piece and convey their needs.
It will be a privilege to represent this awesome place
#TogetherWeCan
I am beaming with pride at my CLP
@BOSLabour
, who tonight voted to confirm
@FloEshalomi
as our candidate for the 2020 elections. If democracy (being the argument for an open selection) was fit for purpose, we wouldn’t still be fighting to have diverse representation!
Wonderful to join a room full of friends and colleagues from all political colours to celebrate
@HarrietHarman
trail blazing 40 years in political life. I’ve learnt so much from her over the years. What an inspiration!
Another great event at today’s civic awards and council AGM
@Southwarkcathed
. One of the highlights was
@TomDaley1994
attending to receive his freedom of the borough award, and his outfit wasn’t half bad!
I am backing an NHS drive to encourage more black people to register as blood donors as part of Black History Month this October. A number of blood conditions, like sickle cell disease, is treated through blood transfusions, most commonly affect BAME people
@FloEshalomi
I’ve seen the video and was so heartbroken for the young girl who had to endure that threatening ordeal. Every adult should be looking out for our children. These two lady literally saved this girl - can we identify them and publicly thank them.
Proud to sign my declaration to represent the residents of
@OKR_Labour
ward for another four years. Thank you for your vote and I look forward to addressing the issues that concern you.
Massive gratitude to
@LondonFire
for arriving at the scene and getting the fire under control. Thankfully noone was injured. Well done also to TRA members and local Cllrs for their support of those affected.
The flat fire in
#Kennington
is under control. There are no reports of any injuries. A flat on the first floor was badly damaged but crews prevented further spread
We are honoured to be re-elected as councillors for Old Kent Road ward. Residents have again put their faith in us to represent them for the next 4 years and we will continue to be on their side.
Great turn out and support for the
#56black
men campaign. I intentionally brought my son to see the promotion of positive male role models. I want him to grow up in a society where this is promoted and celebrated. brilliant to see
@FloEshalomi
there too.
A great day canvassing in Trowbridge. From waiting for a dentist appointment to concerns about the future of grandchildren- residents understand that we cant go on like this!
Grateful the volunteers & the amazing sisterly support from previous candidates
@EmilyP_Smith
& Laura
When you are still more likely to die from childbirth because of your race or socioeconomic status - we are all at risk.
This Commission will take a partnership approach to addressing the unacceptable health inequities in maternal health in access, experience and outcome.
This is is how racism affects not just the grown ups but our children. If they continue to be made to feel like they don’t belong, we risk a whole generation of black and ethnic minority kids turning their backs on a country they desperately love...
Last words from my son before bed tonight..
“what if they treat me like saka. I’m just like him and we both play for arsenal too. I don’t think I want to play for England, will you talk to them if they ever ask me”
My heart is broken.. shattered and broken 💔
Great to have my Southwark colleagues join me yesterday to campaign for change in South West Wiltshire.
We had so many great conversations. Labour is ready to restore confidence in politics and to get our country back on its feet.
#voteLabour2024
It was really inspiring to discuss women safety at Southwark’s Incredible Women’s Network. Huge thanks to all the female voices and Inspector Becky & colleagues who contributed to discussions and conducted several walk and talk with attendees.
@Alicemac83
@metpoliceuk
What an amazing journey to become Camberwell & Peckham next MP. Thank you to all my supporters, volunteers & family.
Hustings is today at ARK Academy Walworth, SE1 5UJ. Doors open at 11am for a 12pm start.
Help me complete this journey by putting number 1 against my name.
It’s been a brilliant day volunteering
@MillwallFC
today. My highlight has been escorting an 82 year Nigerian woman and an eager 18 year old to have their first dose! Great operation by
@NHSSELondonCCG
@lb_southwark
@LewishamCouncil
. You have up until 8pm to come down!
The maternity experience for many women is traumatic and for black and brown women its a matter of life and death. I am glad to have added my voice to this report that again tells us what we know, that for so many, maternity care is a not fit for purpose.
Today
@SadiqKhan
launched his manifesto. A manifesto that has tackling inequality at its heart.
His vision will not only benefit residents of Southwark but is a list of policies that can be rolled out across the country.
It’s such a blessing to celebrate my Father’s 92nd birthday today. He’s surrounded by his family, children and grandchildren. We’ve prayed, we have sang and we continue to celebrate a full life. 🥳🥳🥳🍰🎂🎉🎉🎉🎊
This summer Lambeth and Southwark have joined forces with Kitchen Social to put on an exciting holiday programme of food and fun activities for families across the two boroughs. To receive the online brochure and to take part please go to - don’t miss out!
Just went in to speak with staff at the burgess park test Center, as to why there’s no one there, and as I thought. The government has intervened and as of last Sunday you are not able to walk in - you now have to book an appointment via a website that can’t keep up with demand
To all of the women who are fighting to be counted, to be heard and simply to survive, I salute and stand with you. To the older women in my life who have shaped me and the younger women who continue to mould my views on life I salute and honour you
#InternationalWomensDay
We are so thankful to all our care home staff for remaining at the front line to protect and support our most vulnerable residents. So today, I presented a £100 voucher to all our care home staff. They were so grateful to the council for recognising their hard work.
@excelcareuk
Really great visiting the new Peckham Pantry grocery shop in our ward today. You sign up to be a member and for £4.50 you can pick any 10 items (there’s also a range of cultural foods), that far exceeds this amount. It’s a life support for many people in such uncertain times.
We are a party on a mission! Positive canvassing today in Westbury with my small but mighty team.
Thank you to everyone who spoke to us and are ready for change!
Unanimous support for our urgent motion on the Casey review.
In my speech, I challenged
- Mark Rowley reluctance to accept the Met as ‘institutional racist’
- the council to use all its powers to monitor and hold to account
- our community to engage and ensure change happens
I’m please to announce that this Saturday, 27th March, there will be a pop-up vaccination clinic for all eligible residents of all faith and none, to get vaccinated at Peckham Islamic Centre, Choumert Grove. No appointment needed - simply walk in between 1.45pm to 5.00pm.
It was so painful to be here, but it’s not everyday we hear of such heroism. Risking your life for another is the ultimate human sacrifice. We had to honour his bravery, we had to honour
#JimiTheHero
Addressing the disproportionate rate of black maternal death has been a persistent issue & needs urgent attention.
If elected as the next MP for Camberwell&Peckham, this will be one of my key areas of focus.

Sooo proud of my girl - Esme your aunties are so proud of you and what you’ve achieved.
@DoreenAsinclair
look at our girl 🎉
@lborouniversity
plse look after her.
Congratulations again 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Great to share my experience on standing for Camberwell&Peckham parliamentary seat - it’s never easy to put your head over the parapet and the intersectionality of race and class adds a deeper dimension - But as women we bring impact and drive to every sphere we enter!
We asked women from across the political parties to share their experiences of seeking selection.
Thank you
@evenor23
for sharing your story with us.
Read Evelyn's story here:
Early morning leafleting outside one of our local schools. Really good to listen to parents and carers about their needs. Always lovely to get such warm welcome our residents.
What an achievement, 40 years of fighting for women’s equality in a male dominated world. Standing up for what she believed in and made the path easier for us to follow. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Congratulations to Mother of the House, Rt Hon
@HarrietHarman
MP, on an incredible 40 years in
@HouseofCommons
today. Four decades of standing up for her constituents, for Labour, and for women. Thank you for everything, sister🌹
Proud that 37 of 40 GPs in Southwark have signed up to our safe surgery pledge. As cabinet member for Health & Wellbeing, I've always stood with our diverse communities and I'll continue to as their MP.
Thank you
@OKR_Labour
for your endorsement and overwhelmingly voting for me to be the next MP for Camberwell&Peckham.
Fantastic to top the polls tonight.
#TogetherWeCan
We want to thank residents for all their efforts so far to help curb the spread of Covid-19. Please stay at home as much as possible, protect the NHS and save lives
As a black working class mother, who has grown up in the Camberwell&Peckham constituency and has experienced the good and the bad, I never thought that I will today be standing to be it’s next MP.
For all the young Evelyn’s out there

Heartbreaking to hear of the fatal stabbing of an 18 year old on the Brandon last night. But I’m so angry that the young, families and communities continue to experience such traumatic incidences - But we will work tirelessly to change the narrative- no matter how long it takes.
Today is the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation Wonderful initiative by our new FGM Ambassador Cllr Naima Ali to organise a walk with local cllrs, staff & supporters to raise awareness of FGM.

Attention Southwark: there will be a pop up vaccination+booster tent in Peckham Square, tomorrow Saturday 8th January between 12-3pm. Please encourage local residents aged 16+ if they need their 1st, 2nd or booster. You do not need proof of address, immigration status or NHS no.
Tonight Cabinet committed to adopting the Public Health Approach in tackling serious youth violence in Southwark - supporting a multi-faceted response that considers the underlaying risk factors pertaining to Southwark. Encouraging that recommendations are being put in place.
Enjoyed my time meeting with residents at this community event. I appreciate the opportunity to introduce myself as the Local Candidate for Camberwell & Peckham. I continue to be grateful for the support from my community.

Very disappointed that Streatham CLP do not count ‘hard working’, ‘representative’, ‘local voice’ as attributes needed for a great politician. This vote was based on blatant political partisanship, and our party will end up imploding if this BS does not stop!
We know that inequalities is not new, but what is new for this generation is the openness with which we are discussing this injustice and the energy from all sides to address it. This is our time to continue from where others left it.
What can I say that hasn’t been said. Right now my prayers and thoughts are with her family who are not even in the same country as their daughter. We need to understand what happened.
Great to meet individuals & groups working on the food agenda at the launch of the childhood hunger commission during
#Londonchallangepovertyweek
Amidst a cost of living crisis,
proud that Southwark is leading the way on many of the recommendations, but there’s more to do.
Good to be part of the
@metpoliceuk
walk and talk initiative - getting female residents to walk with Officers to discuss safety. We ended up in
@OKR_Labour
and heard some insightful input from women and men on the issue. Thank you Sydney from
@SouthwarkYAs
who also took part.
There will be a vaccine pop-up at Peckham Palms on Wednesday morning (10-1pm) for those ages 40+ who have not had their first vaccination.
Atwell Road (near Peckham Palms, SE15 4TW)
No appointment needed
No ID required.
I still remember where I was sitting when the news broke. I couldn’t understand why anyone would want to hurt him, why anyone would do that. It was his story of coming to the UK for a better, safer life that broke me...the whole community was in pain.
#damilolataylor
I still remember the grainy CCTV images of the little 10 yr old boy skipping past Peckham Library in his shinny puffa jacket. Tragically his life was taken a few minutes later. 20 years on, may his soul continue to rest in peace.

It was such a buzz to attend
@mentivity
official launch today at their temporary site at Burgess. I met some young people that were being mentored and also the amazing mentors themselves. This is what it’s all about - the community pulling together to identify and meet needs. 👏🏽
A lovely Sunday stroll to the historic Caroline Gardens with mum to see how older residents on the estate are doing in this cost of living current climate - picked up a number of case work to action.
A heart warming standing ovation For Harvey Brown, who won the ‘Young Person’ of the Year Award at this morning’s civic awards and Mayor Making - well deserved!
If the case of
#ChildQ
can happen in one part of London, it could happen anywhere, which is why Cllr
@merrilldarren
and I have written to
#Southwark
's local Borough Commander to seek urgent reassurance that his teams are properly trained
Any Southwark resident over the age of 70 who has not yet had their first Covid vaccination- you can now book via or by calling 119. A letter is no longer needed.
It was great working with Dr.B-Ameyaw, a young lady raised on the Brandon Estate- to encourage other young people in our borough to dream big - a vision we both share.

I am proud today to officially open our new Nursing home in the heart of the borough. Camberwell Lodge Care and Nursing Home is a state of the art care home embedded in our community-a place we can all be proud to provide for our older residents.

@lb_southwark
"Evelyn always has our community's backs" - great to have the endorsement of Southwark Labour's top campaigner and legend
@Livingstone_RJ
.
As the MP for Camberwell and Peckham, I will bring my political experience & knowledge of the area to support and stand up for residents.
This morning I took part in park yoga in Trowbridge. It was a beautiful day & I was looking forward to easy stretches that will allow me a few mins shut eye…instead what I got was an all body workout..so needed!
Thanks to the organisers. I thoroughly recommend it.
A
#BlackHistoryMonth
event like no other - a ‘Seat at the Table’ event was both inspirational and thought provoking. Great to speak on the importance of black female representation in politics. Well done
@NatashaEnnin
for bringing our history alive.
Wonderful to speak at the unveiling of the peace sculpture (located in the peace garden). The Dove, a striking symbol of peace, made by repurposing knife blades to create the wing and tail feathers. The peace garden is part of community’s effort to support change in Southwark.
We are hosting a free online talk about the vaccine on 1 March. We want to listen to any concerns you have and try to answer your questions.
@ProfKevinFenton
and others will be on our panel. Register now on eventbrite and submit your questions.
So yesterday at Mayor Making /full council my new role was confirmed- Cabinet member for Community Safety and Public Health. I’m humbled to be in a position to lead these two very important areas. We have a fantastic cabinet team who will be working hard to improve our community.
Very please that
@lb_southwark
is now offering free, rapid COVID-19 tests to people aged 16+ who DON'T have Covid symptoms. It’s a very easy process and results are available within 1 hour. We are encouraging all key workers to get tested - let’s keep each other safe.
Spent the evening with 3 of Southwark’s inspiring
@YoungAdvisors
providing peer navigation. They go out and speak to the young people others will not approach and act as a mentor and to signpost. A challenging role that needs so many skills. Well-done for your passionate 👏🏽👏🏽
I have written to the new Home Secretary on the work of the council and recommendations of the Southwark youth violence panel. I also emphasised the need for the government to take a decisive lead on this matter including funding preventive measures and community policing.
