I’m going to write a book for the sole purpose of making it easier when people at my job say, “Oh, you’re a writer? What did you write? What’s it about?” I want to say “non fiction about toads.” I am sick of telling them they’re gunna die and it’s about lesbians and Catholicism..
My Uber driver,who had been otherwise mute for our 22 minute drive, turned up the radio and belted along to Total Eclipse of the Heart before returning back to silence
My nephew is obsessed with air conditioners. He asks for bed time stories about them. Wants to watch YouTube videos about them.When he plays, he’s always mumbling about “air conditioning units…”
Today he met an air conditioner repair technician
Enid, the main character in my new book INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT SPACE, keeps this text in her notes app & copies it when she wants to stop hanging out with someone. If u think u might be into reading about someone with ✨issues✨ pls check it out 🙂🪐✨

I personally would rather never be born than come into a world where my mother was forced to give birth to me and couldn’t live her life with her own personhood respected.
Just tweeting to gratefully acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, who have given me a grant to write a new book. I’m so thankful, and am very privileged to be living somewhere that supports writers. Thank you so much

Ouf I have my notifications off, tweeted my pervert email, and opened this app to feel what I can only describe as unmitigated terror by my notifications.
“Everyone In This Room Will Someday Be Dead” comes out in the UK today 🧡🐇! I know Gilda has been really anxious to meet you there. I hope you like her (though, of course, no worries if not!)

The pandemic changed me irrevocably. For example, I recently mustered the bravery to ask the person sitting behind me on a train not to put their bare foot in the space beside my chair. Who knows what else I’m capable of ? I am not who I was.
I don’t want to jinx it, and I hate to brag, but I think the nice messages I receive in that secret hidden inbox on Instagram from people who read my book are beginning to out weigh the notes I get from bots and creeps asking me if I want to buy followers or become a sugar baby.
I took some creative writing classes at King's in 2010. I had two great writing professors who invited me back to talk to their students about having a book published and writing. Thanks for having me back

Thank you to everyone who has messaged me or posted about my book. I am worried I’ve missed responding to some of you, so this is my thank you to everyone 🎤 🐦
Wish I could tell the student who accidentally submitted the wrong file and wrote me, “I am so profoundly sorry. I understand if you dock marks. My sincerest apologies” that some of their peers email me at 4 a.m. saying “hey sir,can I hand in in 2 week?” And that I reply “Sure.”
I’m googling how to make a bomb for a book and every few search queries I write “I am a writer researching something” in case I’m freaking out the government
Some of us are out here hesitating to talk about things we’re knowledgeable about, while these TikTok congressmen talk about wifi like they’re from 300 AD
Riding a train. Opened a blank Word document. Wrote a single sentence then got distracted by my phone. For a solid hour my screen, which was magnified by like 175% because I’m blind, said “Lesbianism in birds.”
A Buzzfeed highly anticipated book of 2021
A Frankfurt Book Fair debut of 2020
An in-house favourite
A hilariously relatable look at anxiety in modern times

In "A Column of Her Own,"

shares how
@eraustinauthor
's EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM WILL SOMEDAY BE DEAD (
@AtriaBooks
) helped her experience stress in more productive ways:
If I write another book, could someone please remind me to put a cake or something in it? Bridget asked if there’s any themed food from my book we could make to celebrate it coming out and the only food I remember in it is marble Cracker Barrel cheese on the body of Christ
Really thrilled to be shortlisted for the Amazon first book award,but my email refuses to show me any emails about it. Sends them all to junk presumably because of the word “Amazon” lol. I blame Jeffrey Bezos.
There are people with Nazi flags protesting life saving vaccines in my city right now, and they are being supported by people I went to high school with who clap reply to Instagram stories about gay rights and racism.
Had a fun time at the Ottawa Book Awards :) Got to see some friendly familiar faces from

Okay now two precious people have “everyone in this room” tattoos, and that is so heartbreakingly sweet, but now my intrusive thoughts are that I’m going to murder someone or something in the future in and ruin their tattoos lmao.
"It is true that our family and friends will all die. They will leave behind clothing, half-used shampoo bottles, and used toothbrushes."
@eraustinauthor
navigates the grief that underlies memory.
my only contribution to the catholic church discourse is that in the 6th grade i asked my evangelical mom if there were ever nuns in the southern baptist church because that’s how gay i was and thought that might be a great fit for me
I don’t exercise, no, but I do sit in my back room with this galaxy light thing and listen to
@muna
for a little bit every night so don’t worry about me.
Hello flight attendant, I have dinged you here today to request that you eject the man beside me off the plane. He is using his sweater sleeve as a kleenex . I presume I don’t need to go on
What drives a 33 year old grown lady to use a horrific child massacre as an excuse to spew hateful transphobia? I don’t know. Judging by her tweets and literally everything she’s ever done; I’d say it’s because she’s fucking disturbed.
I bet I spend more time writing feedback on student assignments I have to fail than they did on their assignments. I feel bad failing them and obligated to explain—in what is essentially my own essay—why I’ve had to. If you’re my student and you failed, know that I slaved over it
I spent the last year or so writing about a girl named Gilda. I’m thrilled to share the news that, with the help of my excellent agent
@heatherannecarr
, I’ve got a book deal with Daniella Wexler at
@AtriaBooks
. I’m so excited to work with Atria & for you all to meet our gal Gilda
Not that this happens a lot, but every time a celebrity or a notable person follows me on Instagram, it’s always right after I’ve just posted something stupid as hell.
I was in so much student debt, I obsessively tracked all my spending for a decade. It not only took money, it took up much of my thoughts, and despite (& because of) the effort put to pay mine off, I’d choose in a heartbeat that everyone’s be erased.
