Respectfully, I disagree and offer another scientific explanation - rapid warming of the arctic waters is weakening the jet stream allowing the polar vortex to plunge farther south than normal/deeper cold air intrusions.

We did it! I’m sore and exhausted but we finished our Rim to Rim hike in the Grand Canyon. Nearly 30 miles in 15.5 hours. It’s was a magical experience from the starry sky start to thunder rumbling through the canyon to a rainbow sunset! 🌈More to come! Now it’s time for bed 😴

I’m so excited to share my next adventure with you! On Sunday I will hike the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim in one day! There’s a reason I’ve been training so much at Mount Scott! It’s approx the length of a marathon and will take the time of an Ironman (12-16 hours). Say a prayer 🙏🤪

The udders or pouches form underneath the anvil of a cumulonimbus (sometimes other types of clouds) due to pockets of cold sinking air (localized downbursts). They often signify severe weather is in the area.

10 years ago, a tornado dropped west of Newcastle and quickly intensified. It was on the ground for 40 min/14 mi. It reached EF5 status over Moore (200 mph+) before dissipating in south OKC. Tragically, 25 people died, including 7 children. Prayers to the families and survivors❤️

This is a 22 deg halo! The 2 rainbows are called “sun dogs.” We usually see this due to cirrus clouds but in this instance, blowing snow and a cloud of suspended ice crystals above the ground called “diamond dust” caused these vibrant halos and dogs!

I know you are wondering why no one was on air for this - that’s because we were caught off guard too. This is a classic example of landspout tornadoes. They do not happen like typical tornadoes from a mesocyclone. They can’t be seen on velocity. Pic: Brett Whitfield in Guthrie

This was ridiculous today. This is more dangerous than large hail and damaging winds - choosing to park under an overpass on a highway could kill someone! Pull off to an exit to seek shelter or keep moving.
#okwx
DO NOT seek shelter under an overpass! You force people into dangerous situations with no way of escape, and block emergency vehicles from getting to people that need help!
