Another day of record breaking warmth across SK today, with a new January maximum temperature record being set for the province! Maple Creek reached a high of 21C breaking the old record of 19C from 2003. This is the 3rd day straight of record breaking temperatures #skstorm

Work continues on the Bethune radar upgrade - the new replacing the old. What a size difference! A temporary radar remains in place to provide coverage which can be found on our website & the WeatherCAN app. ECCC hopes to have the radar images coming out by mid August #skstorm

It's a cold day out there! In fact, Uranium City, in far northern Saskatchewan, tied an all-time cold record this morning, at a bone-chilling -48.9 degrees. This same temperature has been recorded there once before, on January 15, 1974. #skstorm #skwx #cold

Last night and this morning there was a fairly rare area of lake-effect cloud and snow off Lake Diefenbaker. The lake is narrow, so the wind direction has to be perfect to produce snow. Here you can also see cloud forming off Cold Lake (AB) and Fort Peck Lake (MT). #skstorm

BRRR! 🥶 With the overnight low bottoming out at -47.2°C, Key Lake, SK was the coldest spot in Canada 🇨🇦 this morning. This nudges out the old record for Jan 25 from 2019 of -47.0°C. The coldest observed temp since records began in 1976 is -52.5°C on Jan 29, 2004. #skstorm #skwx

ECCC has confirmed that the July 4 Meyronne tornado has been rated as EF-1 strength (estimated wind speed 155 km/h). The Assiniboia tornado is rated as EF-0 & the Glenbain tornado remains under investigation. Send any damage reports to skstorm @canada .ca or to #skstorm on Twitter

Roost rings don't only happen in summer! This evening, a prominent roost ring appeared on RADAR about 30 km SW of Medicine Hat, AB and later another appeared about 20 km SW of Maple Creek, SK. These rings indicate birds leaving their nests at the same time. #skstorm #skwx

On January 30, not only did Maple Creek break the all time January record for SK with a high of 21.1C, 11 other stations in SK set their own all time record for January. Mild temperatures will continue through to the weekend with more daily records likely to fall #skstorm

There is NO cloud in #SK or #AB this morning. Sinking air under a mid-atmospheric ridge of high pressure (~500 hPa) is responsible for our ☀️ skies. This ridge also helps maintain these hot summer temperatures. Heat warnings are still in effect. Stay cool. #skstorm #heat
