The 24th was my 5 year anniversary of quitting a W2 job to raise cattle for a living. Our arrangement is atypical. A guy gave me a chance to learn, build a future, and for us to raise our kids in this business. I think that’s something to celebrate.

This tv show on ABC called the Proposal is odd. The girls come out in different outfits, say how they’re ready for a forever love, then at the end, a man behind a wall proposes to one of them. It’s basically a cattle auction for people. That’s messed up.

In 2018 i had a cattle buyer stand in our driveway and said, “i can go anywhere and buy black fats.” Followed by, “i don’t know why you as a young guy are trying. You don’t have a shot.” I run mostly on spite and caffeine, so i said we will never make him another dime.

Today, Lauren and I have to do something hard. Our 13-year old border collie, Mace, passed last night. He was there when grandpa was sick, and later passed. I spent a lot of nights sitting in the garage or on the porch just talking to him. Dogs really are a man’s best friend.

You get a lot of hate for saying this, but even when i was salary working in an office, i averaged 60-80 hrs a week. Saturday and Sunday mornings were the best because nobody was in, and you could be left alone. You don’t get success by stopping at 40 hrs.

Does he have any idea how dumb this sounds coming from him? Raising 500 bu corn, 190 bu beans, teaching people in fringe states how to raise better crops, then suggest that the USDA should pay us to raise less corn and beans? We did this to ourselves. #Farming2020
