How fast do QEC decoders need to be? Most people give a black/white answer (e.g 1us per QEC round for some max distance). But, efficient & scalable QEC is possible even with slow (inner) decoders if you parallelize them! As we show in our pre-print today.

A year ago I would have said it was unlikely to be possible, and I would have been wrong. Constant overhead fault tolerance with an efficient decoding algorithm.

Great work from the team on a new decoder that can handle qLDPC codes. Say hello to ambiguity clustering, built on top of message-passing algorithms as a first stage but with a much lower complexity second stage than BP-OSD.

Introducing Amiguity Clustering, a new decoder for general qLDPC codes more accurate and 150x faster than BP-OSD at realistic physical error rates. We can decode IBM's 144-qubit 'Gross code' in 280μs with no loss of logical fidelity over BP-OSD.

@RiverLane_io is 100% QEC. In the early days RL worked on NISQy algorithms, but pivoted about 3 years ago. So if you look at older papers you might get a NISQy vibe. But if you look at the website, products or papers from the last year or two, it is pure QEC.

A satisfying figure to make on page 113 of outlines a compact layout for a Toffoli magic state factory using a combo of repetition and surface code patches. Converts 8 TOF -> 2 TOF states with slightly better than quadratic error suppression.
