Cows out at 4.30am on a Saturday morning. Who ya gonna call? Ted, just Ted. Five people wouldnβt have done what he did in the last twenty minutes.

Great news day, Ted was found alive and well stuck in the middle of bales of straw. The joys of having a dog that doesnβt bark. Thanks to everyone that shared my post. Canβt believe he was in the middle of our yard all along with all the calling and whistles he never made a sound!
Itβs been an eventful weekend here with 100% of our babies born and 30% of our cows calved. Dashing between calving shed and maternity ward was made a lot easier thanks to Aidan and my father holding the fort. Still 100% daughter proven!

Donβt usually put family stuff up online but Iβm very proud of my little 7 yr old girl for donating her hair to the

Letβs hope it can put a smile on another childβs face.
Thank you to Suzy Davis in Kieran OGorman hair salon for donating her time.
Most peoples greatest fear at this time of year is the trouble the Elf on a shelf brings to their homes.
My ICBF figures may have taken a hit like shares in beyond meat but itβs nice having a boy in my corner all the same.

Never before has the drafting of cows by due dates been so simple.

Iβm going to a show this morning. My two nephews aged 16 and 12 arrived into the parlour at 6.20 this morning and told me to head on with myself! What a pair of legends. No excuse for being late now!

Look at this beauty of a 22 month Belted Galloway out of one of our Friesian cows straight off the field with no meal. Will be ready to go into our freezer in 4/5 weeks time.

A cow pat is kind of like the mines in

Only, instead of βDoozersβ they are a home to multitudes of Dung beetles and many other insects. Itβs incredible how interconnected our ecosystem is and how our birds, bats and mammals benefit from our grazing ruminants. π π
@cooper_m
with the massive divide that there is between the general public and agriculture, how would you feel about giving a weekly slot to a farmer for a general chat around all things farm related. Help bridge the gap please.
#FiveMinutesOfFactsWithAFarmer
With the calf sheds filling up rapidly we are misting the calf house and calving pens a few times a week with environmental microbes to help keep down the build up of bad bacteria.
A Buzzard leading the way to bring the cows in for milking this morning. I wonder could I train it to them bring them in!

Just wondering what the anti beef brigade would suggest should be grown on this land? Suckler cows and sheep maintain a lot of land which would be otherwise overgrown and unmanageable.

The road home from Necarne today was made a little shorter with Rachel winning the Under 10βs finals with Divernaghβs Little Belle.
*Speed phase kicks in from fence 8*
Cows are settling in well with the new

system. Not testing the boundaries at all with the collars. All red areas are grazed and you just draw the line around their allocation.

Iβve about 15 miles of electric wire and posts for sale if anyones interested.
We are land locked with no road frontage so if you could spread the word that Sheehanβs have the cows out to grass it would be appreciated!! On another note π― % of our red and white cows are calved!
I usually donβt get involved in the forums on Facebook but tonight really got my goat. I was curious to how this would play out. Maybe we could all learn and move on, instead they just blocked me!
The benefits of early mornings over the last year were put together by my phone. Technology has its benefits sometimes, canβt take credit for this.

Thereβs not one of us that at a time when we were in a worst case scenario has not put on a persona of bravado. In a situation where you can laugh or cry the latter is often a better option for the people around you. I donβt like the photo but Iβm backing

Just shy of the 50% calved mark here. Touch wood going good so far. This is what our days consist of at the moment. Lots of calves and little sleep.

The rush is on for breakfast. First couple of rows of cows on their way back to the field.
Funny how excited they get when they realise they are on a different route than the previous day.
Itβs just a lovely time of year, cows full with milk, workload manageable. As long as we get a bit of kindness in the weather to fill the hole in my grass wedge Iβll be flying it.
When you forgot where you left the jeep parked and reverse into it with the Diet Feeder but fix it with lots of hot water! Thanks to the instant 80 degree water from the gas heater in the parlour.

If 2020 has thought us anything itβs that everything can be done online. Like 1777βs online yoga class which really paid for itself, enabling her to make the most of the last day at grass here until Spring 2021. 285 days of

Cows scanned today. 8% empty after Ten weeks breeding. First time using AI only thanks to

Heifers scanned yesterday. 2 out of 50 empty, one being a freemartin.
Todayβs events led to a super Quality Time filly foal out of a Je Tβaime Flamenco/Cavalier Royale mare being born. Really happy to have another filly from this family.
1st milk collection this year and a cell count of 98. Only 10% of the herd received dry cow tubes last year. Thatβs 15 out of 154, the rest received sealer only.

Not what you want to see at this time of year in a spring calving herd. Very lucky to have the Regional Veterinary Laboratory on our doorstep at times like this. All cows vaccinated for Salmonella so hopefully itβs only a once off. Highs and lows of farming.
149 cows scanned, 5 empty.
56 heifers 2 empty.
60% (120) of herd due calve in 1st 3 weeks. 88% (175) due in 6 weeks. 12 weeks calving total. Need to get my house in order.

Last of the walks to the parlour for the girls for 2022. Just hitting 295 days at grass this year. Another two weeks and we will have them all dried off on their holidays before baby number 4 arrives.
First of the cows through the
@hoofcountIRL
foot bath we had installed today. Hoping to tackle lameness issues with more regular and consistent bathing of the girls hooves.
**Scanning update**
171 cows scanned 19 (11%) empty in ten weeks. 4 of which Iβll be disappointed to lose.
55 heifers scanned, π―% incalf in 9 weeks. First time for everything. However two of the heifers are carrying twins....
Meanwhile the Government insists that Ireland needs to reduce its cow population in order to meet climate change commitments.
If it wasnβt so serious it would be hilarious.
When the lame cow you took off the cubicles isnβt too lame to go on an adventure. No dog, no problem when you have your trusty little cowgirls at hand.
