1- None of us are self made. We tend to think otherwise.
2- We don’t compete for validation. It is fleeting.
3- Community trumps individualism. Understanding this makes 1 & 2 easier.
Alberto Salazar: Athletics coach's ban upheld by Court of Arbitration for Sport - BBC Sport
13 years, death threats, assaults.
It is done.
Marion, Lance, Bonds showed its hard to catch anyone with only testing.
I hope others will be held accountable
I disagree. With athlete’s I coach, the path to a performance is as, if not more, important than the performance.
I believe it really matters if you take drugs. Cheating by definition means the performance is fake. Young athletes need to believe in the right way.
@letsrundotcom
It is easy to fall into a false logic loop & think you need your A day to accomplish your goals.
@DrewWindle
didn’t feel great & had a mental lapse at lap 2.
But he adjusted in a high stakes moment.
There are levels to this game.

Another point is clean athletes are actual champions. Actual champions accept losing. Cheaters by definition do not accept the rules of the game. They bend and break them. Rules of the game are someone wins, someone loses.
This week thanks to

's work with Josh Kerr, I can confidently say you can be the world champion doing things the right way.
How do I feel so confident?

at the track, & wish he came to a different outcome (he’s going to be a great dentist though), I encourage athletes to talk w/ him. His rationale is how I hope all athletes would approach their profession. Unconcealed, intentional & reverent.
We've got some breaking news this morning. Reebok is starting a new pro track team; Chris Fox will be the coach, with Justyn Knight as its first signing.
Say hello to the Reebok Boston Track Club.
Championship season can make people anxious
I tell the
@beaststc
to ask themselves:
Do you trust your ability?
Do you trust my coaching?
Do you trust your work ethic?
Do you trust your ability to compete?
If you do, then don’t worry, what you feel is excitement, you are prepared

@BrannonKidder
PR’s in the mile (3:56.3).
He was aiming for the 1500 world standard (3:39.5) in route so we are waiting for that official time.

Coach Popovich on player ID: “we look for people that have gotten over themselves. You can talk to someone for 5 minutes & tell if it’s about them or if they understand that they’re just a piece of the puzzle.”

Making the USA Track & Field team is the hardest team to make in any sport. Congrats to the athletes, coaches & companies that help 🇺🇸 do this👇🏿 at Worlds.
Thank you

Gabe, we met 8 years ago at the USA Championships in Oregon. I can’t remember the first time I met you, Justin, but the first time we bonded was at the 2014 USA Indoor Champs when you were unwavering in having your…

finalists and now a Silver Medal. Amazing
I told Josh about these 2 UFC, one had a doping history, never banned but cloudy. The other was clean.
The doped one was “better” but the longer the fight went on the clean athlete started to break the will of the other fighter. Clean athletes are champions. Dopers are weak.
Danny was an original whistleblower on the Nike Oregon Project case
Before I even knew who he was, he'd gone to USADA. He went through 10 years of whistleblowing. Putting his livelihood on the line
The then Nike Global director of athletics once threatened to kill him
The real test is this one: When you are alone & nobody can see you, what do you choose to do?
The best version of truth appears to you & you alone, when nobody can see.
This is the test of discipline & it’s what makes the difference in your life-GSP

1 question I always ask an athlete is: “how do you feel?”
With that question:
I can find out if the workout matches my expectations
What else is going on in their life.

A subtle difference between focusing on success vs perfection.
Perfection is rigid, myopic, external & unsteady
Success is fluid, self-driven, relative & indissoluble
We try to not get tricked by believing perfection is desirable, it is an infection.
