Gavrinis, Gulf of Morbihan, Brittany, France. Neolithic passage tomb, 4200–4000 BC. It features elaborate megalithic art consisting of deep cut, granite-glittering spirals, zigzags, and other geometric motifs, which make it one of my all time favourite sites to visit.

Isle of Lewis, Scotland, UK. Centre of a magnificent neolithic complex of many sites. Once every 19 yrs at Lunar standstill the Full Moon "Walks across the Earth." Skimming the skyline before appearing in the centre of the circle.

A photo I took at Meini Hirion (Druid's Circle) Gwynned, North Wales, UK. Looking towards the Great Orme's Head site of a Bronze Age copper mine. Meini Hirion is Neolithic possibly 5000 years old. There are other circles and standing stones nearby. A lovely walk.
Prehistoric rock art up on the gritstone Gardom's Edge in the Peak District, Derbyshire, England, UK. Similar patterns can be seen in Scotland at Ormaig, near Kilmartin.

Castlerigg Stone Circle Cumbria UK in the frost and snow, taken on the 14/12. One of the older stone circles in Europe and certainly the most spectacular setting of any I have visited. In the heart of the Lake District near Keswick.

Woodhenge, Wiltshire, a prehistoric monument located near Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England. Discovered in 1925, it consists of concentric rings of wooden posts that once stood tall, though only their postholes remain visible today. Believed to date back to around 2300 BCE, (1/3)
You can almost feel the vibrations as the Callanish Standing Stones reach outward into sky above. Isle of Lewis. Scotland, UK.

Three stone circles that according to of people petrified for playing games on the sabbath. Hurling is an ancient ball game that is still played professionally in Ireland.

Wayland's Smithy, early neolithic long barrow, Ashby Oxfordshire. Situated on the prehistoric track, the Ridgeway, near to Uffington White Horse and earthwork, this chambered tomb is named after the Norse Smith god. A horse left will be shod overnight.

St Breock Downs Monolith, Cornwall's heaviest standing stone. Weighing around 16.5 tons and originally standing about 16 feet tall, this prehistoric menhir, once known as Men Gurta, is a striking example of ancient stonework.

Tonight is the full moon halfway through the year of the Major Lunar Standstill. Stonehenge is well known for its association with the Sun at the winter and summer Solstice. Less well known are its connections to the moon and stars.

Central stone of the Cromlech De Portela De Mogos. Fiendishly difficult to find, this magnificent hilltop circle in the Alentejo region of Portugal is currently obscured by trees. The views are there but hard to see! Some of the oldest European monuments here. 📸 Dr Peach

Nine Maidens Stone Circle, Cornwall, England, UK. Surrounded by Heather. Said to be a group of women caught dancing on the Sabbath and turned to stone as punishment. Two large standing stones called The Pipers are nearby.

The Calanais Standing Stones are one of Scotland’s best-preserved Neolithic monuments. Erected around 5,000 years ago, they stand at the centre of a large ritual complex. Definitely one of my favourite sites.
