I'm so happy to be able to share our short book, with
@m_levendusky
: "We Need to Talk: How Cross-Party Dialogue Reduces Affective Polarization" with you.
@CUP_PoliSci
has generously undated the electronic version until Nov 24th, so grab it while its hot!
As a smug European, I definitely used to think that Celsius is just a superior scale for measuring temperature. After 21 years in North America, though, I definitely concede that Fahrenheit is simply better and more intuitive for temperature.
How do these people not understand that without Section 230, Twitter would just ban most of them because they could be sued for their lunatic content? How hard is this to understand?
I just can't stop thinking about how Zelensky is probably going to get murdered by Russians in the coming days. He had a chance to gtfo the moment Russians started their unprovoked invasion. He could have fled to Lviv. But he stayed. A hero and a patriot. Colossal balls.
This is how it should be: leaders of all major parties, across the political spectrum, encouraging vaccinations. A healthy society needs vaccines to remain a political consensus position.
"I'm here live. I'm not a cat."
A lawyer logged into the 394th Judicial District with a cat filter on and couldn't turn it off.
This may be the funniest video I've seen this year.
I’m thrilled to announce that starting in the fall of 2020, I will be an assistant professor of political science at
@ColoradoStateU
.
This did not come easy, so you better believe that this will be accompanied by an emotional, and long, thread.
I don’t think it’s very cool for the host of the biggest podcast host in the world to give platform and a megaphone to an unhinged conspiracy theorist and this country’s most ardent anti-vaxxer. This isn’t someone that anyone needs to “debate” because this isn’t a serious person
This is not a comment necessarily approving of all the Twitter bans, BUT: if Twitter bans a bunch of accounts promoting insurrection, violence, Neonazi content, etc & then a bunch of Reps say they’ve lost a lot of their followers, that tells us a lot about the GOP and their base
I’ve lost 50k+ followers this week. The radical left and their big tech allies cannot marginalize, censor, or silence the American people. This is not China, this is United States of America, and we are a free country.
Dearborn is an amazing community. Majority of Arabs in Metro Detroit are Christian (not that it matters, of course). This is just flat out racism and scare mongering. This is something you expect to see in The Daily Stormer and not the highest circulating newspaper in the U.S.
campuses and politicians are busy curtailing students’ right to free speech and protest but nobody will bat an eye if you churn out garbage like this
imagine this headline about other communities/groups in the US. shame on
@WSJopinion
CNN giving Trump a platform, NYT excitingly reporting on it all. The news media have learned absolutely nothing since 2016. They just cannot help themselves.
Started off illegal, now we're here. 8 years of fear and uncertainty during which any semblance of a normal life seemed incredibly out of reach. Today, that journey concluded. Still cannot believe it.
News media data re-affirms this point: recently, there have been as many as 750 stories per week mentioning "Critical Race Theory" in right wing media (Fox, Breitbart, Daily Caller, etc). Since Jan 1, 2021, there have been *6736* stories mentioning CRT in right wing media.
Breaking News: Stanford University will receive a record $1.1 billion gift from the venture capitalist John Doerr to fund a school focused on climate change and sustainability.
80 hr weeks were slow weeks for me during grad school. I usually did 150-160 hours of work. I only consumed Soylent to not waste time on meals and I had a slow drip of espresso hooked up to my arm at all times. My only time off was reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
According to the WHO, there are 83,310 confirmed cases across the world, in 53 countries, resulting in 2,858 deaths so far. This is incredibly dangerous rhetoric.
Unfortunately, got some very bad news yesterday. One of the worst days in a long time. We're gutted but Zosia is doing well for now. We're going to do our best to enjoy the time left we have with her. Hug your dogs. We don't deserve them.
On August 23, 1989, about 2 million people from Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania formed a 600 km human chain that united all 3 countries to show the world their desire to escape the Soviet Union and communism.
Not cool to brag, and I know citations are lame, but I’m super proud of this. When we immigrated to the US 22 years ago and barely spoke English all of this seemed incredibly out of reach.
When you finish a PhD in political science they take you in a special room and thank you for the interest in the position of assistant professor, but they received a large number of applications from many highly qualified individuals and they want to wish you best of luck.
U of Colorado at Boulder, a major R1 university, wants to fire 50 TT profs and replace them with 25 adjuncts to save money so they can invest in more "staff" and "excellent new ideas" fund (presumably ideas as excellent as this one.
Dr. Collins, asked if there's anything he wishes NIH had done: "maybe we under-invested in research in human behavior..I never imagined a year ago that there would be 60 million people who refused/declined to get the vaccine because of misinformation & disinformation"
@NewsHour
This will be my last semester at
@CSUPoliSci
. In the fall, I will be joining
@OhioStateComm
. Absolutely never thought I would have a shot to work at a world class place like
@OhioState
. To be able to do that, and to be much closer to family, is just a dream come true.
20 years ago today, I landed at O’Hare. My English was poor and I had no idea what’s happening. Now, I just moved to Fort Collins to start as an Assistant Professor of Political Science at

Huge shout out to my mom and my brother. On Aug 11, 2000, the three of us landed at O’Hare in Chicago. My mom cleaned homes. Both me and my brother earned PhDs. Now I’m going to be a professor. How crazy is that???

Happy Fourth. Last year, I got my citizenship. 33 people from 18 countries became Americans that day. We started as "them" and became "us." It might sound cheesy, but this doesn't happen in most places. This is what makes this place special. Don't take it for granted.
When democracies like Hungary or Poland, experienced serious assault on democratic institutions, restaurants didn’t close, Netflix didn’t go away. Life went on. There will be no gong or formal announcement. We better wake up, bc it’s happening here too
Update on the manufacturing of the "Critical Race Theory" as a boogeyman by right wing media and Republican elites:
- Since 1/1/21 right wing media (Fox, Breitbart, Daily Caller, etc) have produced 9,923 stories mentioning CRT (that's an avg of 57/day)
- Last week > 1k stories
News media data re-affirms this point: recently, there have been as many as 750 stories per week mentioning "Critical Race Theory" in right wing media (Fox, Breitbart, Daily Caller, etc). Since Jan 1, 2021, there have been *6736* stories mentioning CRT in right wing media.

Suburban America sucks. The lack of third spaces is crazy for all age groups, and the car centric way in which most American communities have been designed further exacerbates it.
1/ So... Jordan Peterson thinks that not only is Russia attacking Ukraine because the US is 'degenerate,' but that they are justified in doing so. This is getting kind of scary, and not just because of the supervillain routine he's doing in his vids lately.
BREAKING: Kari Lake files lawsuit challenging the results of the Arizona gubernatorial election. Citing issues in Maricopa County, Lake demands that either she be declared the winner or the election be re-run. More to come.
Read the complaint:
Nearly half of Republicans agreeing that "patriotic Americans" may have to take the law into their own hands.
Majority of Republicans agreeing that the American way of life is disappearing and they may need to have to use force to save it.
Not great, Bob.
Bernie Sanders: ‘Oligarchs run Russia. But guess what? They run the US as well’
Yes, US and Russia are the same. Russian oligarchs and American “oligarchs” are the same.
🥴🥴🥴
American culture wars are so global that even the leader of the second biggest opposition party in Canada apparently feels the need to share his feelings about it
I know today's verdict is painful for many.
It feels like another failure by a broken system designed to protect some and hurt others.
For those that carry such grief and must continue to witness denials of justice - my heart is with you.
American public university system is a marvel, but it’s being destroyed. An insane own goal. Blue state universities will continue to be world leaders in research and economic engines for their communities, while red state U’s will be reduced to Praeger U’s with a football team
The State of Florida has asserted that faculty members’ curricula and in-class instruction at public universities is fair game to be regulated by state lawmakers.
We arrived at O’Hare with my mom and brother 23 years ago today. After years without papers, hardship, and constant fear, things worked out and we’re all American citizens now. Both me and my brother got PhDs. Immigrants make America great.
21 years ago today we immigrated to the US. This is us after arriving at O’Hare. Had no clue what is happening, barely spoke English. Now, I’m preparing for my second year as a university professor.

Dear Academic Hivemind:

and I are looking to see who are the junior scholars (PhD candidates, Postdocs, early career folks) actively working on political misinformation and propaganda in the digital age. If this describes your work, please say hi below 👋👇

Not gonna lie, spending some time in Denver in the past 4 years I never had the impression that this city has been "amazing" at really any point in its history. Plus, Denver 30-40 years ago was just surface lots with some tall buildings in between and zero urban activity
By APSA 2028, we will have:
- APSA basic, a virtual conference for the poors
- APSA premium, an in person conference for big name academics with travel budgets, that will rotate Hawaii, LA, and major international tourist destinations
19 yrs ago today, I landed, along with my mom and my brother, at O’Hare. My mom cleaned homes. Both me and my brother earned PhDs. And now I’m at Penn, however temporarily, doing what I really love. I never thought it would be possible.

Really honored to have received this
@ColoradoStateU
recognition. Means so much. Thanks to all the mentors who always had my back, folks who wrote the letters, and the best colleague on the planet
@PeterHarrisCSU
I voted for the very first time as an American today. Feels great. Don’t ever take this for granted. Also feel super privileged to be able to do it in a state that makes it easy and convenient to vote. 🇺🇸
