After 26 and a half years
@bordermail
I finish up tomorrow. Been a great ride with few bumps on way, but that’s life. Off to
@theweeklytimes
with some big shoes to fill as its national affairs writer starting in Jan. Thanks to everyone who helped me along way.
BREAKING: “Football/netball clubs across Victoria can now plan for matches to be played with up to 5000 people in attendance, without seeking formal approval".
@bordermail
C’mon Melbourne. Get your shit together around
#coronavirus
You are killing us in the bush. We want to re-open businesses, get people back into work, go to local footy. We’ve got it smashed. Give us a chop out please.

Is this tipping point for re-think on border closure rules? Corryong Hotel and wider Upper Murray severely impacted by bushfires now COVID. Pub has shut. Virus cases ZERO. There has to be better way.
@GladysB

Absolute BS Year 12 students in regional areas with zero or limited exposure to virus need to return remote learning at such crucial stage of year.

Two people & their dogs in crowd at tonight’s AFL pre-season games. How many would they get at Reid Oval, QEO, Deakin, Lavington, Morwell, Robbo Oval, Narrandera even on week night?

Border life.

change permit conditions overnight. Affected persons got to plead case at checkpoints. No explanation, no heads up 120,000 people thrown under bus again. Sydney don’t care, Melb is a mess. Zero virus cases either side.
Road trip to Mitta. Great part of world which has never looked better. Green grass everywhere, round bales on ground. Hamburger with lot from general store quality. No trip complete without visit to footy ground.
Those bagging the decision to call races off today should remember the late Adrian Ledger has a race named in his honour at the Gold Cup. He died as the result of a race fall 14 years ago. RIP Ade. We don't want another one any time soon.

teams in Victoria. If

can’t get a game a venue they spent nearly $20 million redeveloping for events of this level they are not fair dinkum. Step up to plate. Opportunity knocks big time. Or will Wang beat them to punch?

Much appreciated. Hope you enjoyed it. Fairytale of second flag 50 years after first for

looking grim again.
Sadly, border restriction changes (revealed to date) won't cut it with locals. Premiers bang on about data, risk. Data shows infection rates in Vic are lower and trending down when border was shut in July. Where is risk? Open the bloody thing up.
Little project we cooked up in recent weeks, 8-page wrap of country footy GFs, Top 50 players, team of year. Off charts great graphics. Enjoy.

Question: What are the longest road trips in country footy? Keen to find top 10 if possible. Bairnsdale to Wonthaggi, 220km, 2hrs40min-ish on a good day is a contender surely.

WATCH THIS SPACE: One solution to making traffic flow between Albury-Wodonga easier and under serious consideration today is making the Lincoln Causeway LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY.

When shit hits the fan more often than not our smaller communities produce the biggest response. Exhibit A right here.

stating for multiple days regional Vic is poised to take multiple steps on road map is just spin. Regional Vic was always going to step 2 tomorrow and step 3 is far from satisfactory for businesses which successfully operated under stage two before second l’down

Stay positive. Better days ahead.

Again an AFL Hall of Famer recognises where he came from, Kelvin Templeton, Traralgon, LVFL. Surely those running game must come to senses and provide a platform for next bush champ to show his wares and get same opportunity. Pathways are not be all and end all.
Totally confused on logic of possibility of crowds attending Boxing Day Test and Oz Open tennis in Melb, but you will be fined for dropping into watch country cricket match on a Sat arvo. 2020 just keeps giving.
Wonder what
@DanielAndrewsMP
is thinking on border rules given NSW has brought up double century of daily cases? Asking on behalf of nervous border communities. Thanks

One of the great characters in

Mick Flecknoe, has sadly passed away. Ripper bloke. Team-mate of the late Polly Farmer, Saints goal-kicker in his day and more than handy lawn bowler. RIP Mick

At what point will metro media get their heads around step three NOT being the major green light for regional Vic as
@DanielAndrewsMP
trumpets each day. Stage two is what regional Victorians want to go back to.

North-East smashing the vax. All councils above 95 per cent single dose except Wodonga, nearly there at 94.1%. All steaming toward 80% double dosed, again Wodonga with most work to do sitting at 70.6.
Congrats to Jarrod Hodgkin & Sophie Hanrahan. Both spoke brilliantly and respectfully of what footy and netball means to them and others who helped along the way. Fantastic ambassadors for
