Well this is interesting. The only Trappist brewery in the UK have produced a Blond beer. Tynt Meadow Blond is a very drinkable pale ale style beer with a zingy bitter taste throughout, hint of pepper (English hops?) and a very nice dry & bitter end. Very drinkable & refreshing.

Very sad news today, at Grote Dorst, I learnt that one of the giants of the lambic world - Armand De Belder has passed away after a long illness. My condolences to his family, his colleagues and his many friends. He will be missed.

Had to be done. Russian River Pliny the Elder airfreighted to Cantillon. Served at Moeder Lambic Fontainas in superb condition. A beer that deserves the hype. Now on my 2nd glass.

Really enjoyed my 4 hour visit to Westmalle Abbey & brewery today. Visited both old and new brew houses. Very impressive setup with lots of modern technology. 120,000 HL per year.

Back in UK after 2 months. 2 wks in beautiful Gozo & Malta & 6 wks in Belgium. Fantastic trip. Achieved my aim of exploring smaller towns in Flanders,lots of great discoveries. Burnt through huge chunk of my 90 day EU allowance but woth it. Last 2 beers were fittingly favourites

After visiting a few favourite Brussels watering holes. I ended at Booze & Blues. Great atmosphere Tried most draft beers but ended on extremely enjoyable De La Senne Coucou Puissant at a mere 9.5% this is on the hoppy blonde-amber spectrum. More bitter than sweet. Lovely🍻

Over the next few days I will be drinking some of the gueuze bottles I have been ageing. Today it's a Girardin bottled 7 years and 3 months ago. It is amazingly good. Mellow and rounded with deep complexity. My patience has been rewarded.

After touring Orval Brewery went to the À L'Ange Gardien and drank quite a few glasses of the Orval Vert. What a great hoppy pale ale this is. Ate young, beer infused and old Orval cheese & the local trout was also great.

Extremely pleased to report that the wonderful La Fleur en Papier Doré in Brussels has reopened. Much reduced beer menu & no food but you can bring your own. Open 8am to midnight every day. What a pleasure it is to drink here again. Saison is from @bierenderanke & very good.

The @thornbridge Union Jaipur brewed on the newly installed Burton Union sets is tasting fantastic @HeatonHops . Softer, more rounded less bitter upfront but with a lovely bitterness developing in the aftetertaste. It's recognisably Jaipur but with a distinctive difference.

Last 4 beers in Brussels in one of my favourite bars. This was such a great Belgium trip. Great experiences beer wise but more about meeting & talking to friends from 20 plus countries on 6 continents. I will remember my friends more than the beers I think. Beer and friendship 👍
