Never mind that the film is based on two real gay men. Or that the screenwriter said he wrote the characters as lovers. What’s implied here—that simply discussing the “homisexual” subtext of Rope turns a “good movie” into something else—is exactly why we have Pride night on TCM.

Can you believe “Tiny Dancer” only reached No. 41 on the Billboard chart when it was released in 1972? Elton John told me that #AlmostFamous gave the song “a huge boost.” He rarely played it in concert before the film and now he almost never does a show without it. #31DaysofOscar

I’m not an objective viewer but I really enjoyed #Rocketman . It’s a lovely tribute to Elton’s partnership with Bernie & the fantastical tone suits his life perfectly. Oscar chances hinge on reviews & biz, but as a true musical it’s a great bet for picture & actor at the Globes.

The last surviving #VirginiaWoolf cast member, George Segal, passed away 6 weeks ago at age 87. Along with his Oscar nomination, he received five Golden Globe nods, winning two: for Most Promising Newcomer in 1965 & for Best Actor in a Comedy for 1973’s A Touch of Class. #TCMFF
