Calling all Explorers: the Nexus Force needs your help on December 5th to drive back the Maelstrom across the universe!
Starting then, our source code will be publicly available and players will be able to setup their own servers to play through the entire original game.
Hello Explorers!
Today, we're excited to announce that Darkflame Universe will be going open source later this year. Players across the world will be able to play through the game at their own pace or with friends.
Full announcement can be found below or on our site.
As you all know, we're still in the process of revamping our website and getting our legal work done. This leaves us with a little extra time to work on the game...
Today we're announcing Forbidden Valley and Dragon Battle minigame will be included in the initial Beta content!
The last main content zone, Ninjago Monastery, is now live for our Alpha testers!
We're still on track for getting more players into the game this year, so keep an eye out for more news regarding Closed Beta. :)
We're taking our website down for extended maintenance to prepare for Closed Beta. When it returns, you'll be able to apply for Beta access!
We currently don't have a date to share for when our work will be done, but we'll make sure to tweet when we do. :)
Today may mark 11 years since LEGO Universe closed, but it's not a sad day; anyone who wants to play LEGO Universe again can, thanks to our open-source release back in 2021! Instead, we reflect today on some of the best changes we've had since release.
Yesterday, we dropped a massive update to the game; Battle of Nimbus Station, Avant Gardens Survival, Crux Prime, Starbase 3001, every remaining property and more!
We've also got a sneak peek of our updated website! Little work on the site remains :)
While work continues on the web and legal sides, we've got more exciting content coming to Closed Beta;
๐ข Nexus Tower
๐ธ Red Blocks in Nimbus Station
๐ Racing
We're also super excited to welcome
@aronwk_aaron
and
@VermeulenMick
to the team! LEGO Universe has a bright future :)
Have you been wondering what the *REDACTED* topic was? Well, we're happy to share what the monumental topic is today; we're in talks with the
@LEGO_Group
about Darkflame Universe. We have a short official statement from them on our latest blog;
It's almost summer in Darkflame Universe and things are heating up! Players in the Closed Beta test will be able to brave the challenging Survival minigame and claim their own Avant Grove Property later this year.
What are you most looking forward to from our Beta?
It's a great day for LEGO Universe fans who miss the music; for the first time ever, the remastered soundtrack has just been released on streaming platforms. :)
"If you've lived a game, you really love it and you've been in that world. It is like a memory when you hear the music. Itโs beyond nostalgia, it's an emotional connection,โ Brian Tyler discusses the LEGO Universe soundtrack on Bits Nโ Bricks.
It's 2021 and we know our new year's resolution: getting Closed Beta out to the public this year. ๐
What are you looking forward to most from Closed Beta? If properties is your answer, well, we've got a video going live this week with gameplay of exactly that!
If you had the chance to go to Avant Gardens this weekend, what would you do first?
That's not hypothetical; we're giving away 10 Crash Test keys! Retweet this post and you'll be eligible for one of them. We'll draw 10 random winners at 12 PM EST tomorrow!
Hello Explorers!
We heard you loud and clear. We've been quiet and haven't shared as much as we should've.
While we don't have any dates to announce, we have multiple tests planned for the time leading up to Closed Beta. We'll even have a few ways to join the tests... :)
Darkflame Universe (and the Nexus Force!) are proud to stand with our LGBTQIA+ community. We can't beat the Maelstrom alone, so stand united to save the universe :)
#pride
Join us on our Twitch channel at 2:30 PM Eastern on December 5th to celebrate our open-source release! Witness an in-game party for our testers and listen to a retrospective on 8 years of development from the team behind Darkflame Universe.
The Darkflame Universe team is heading to Denmark next month! LEGO are still great supporters of LEGO Universe and we're excited to finally get a chance to visit the company behind our favorite game ๐
Happy birthday to LEGO Universe!
While we aren't ready yet to start Closed Beta, we're hoping to accept more testers before the year is over. Stay tuned over the next few months for more information on how you can get a key!
It's spring in LEGO Universe and today Explorers got the chance to tame their very own pets! Here's two members of our dev team enjoying the sun in Pet Cove :)
What pets are you looking forward to taming in Closed Beta?
Last month, we delayed our monthly developer blog in favor of doing a bigger one this month. We're hopeful to get it out before November, but here's a few topics to look forward to;
๐ Closed Beta news
๐ Anniversary event
๐ Next content update
๐ *REDACTED* information
Can you believe it's been 12 years since we lost LEGO Universe? At least it's been 3 years since our server was released :)
A shame we can't see you all in-game today, but we hope you all continue to enjoy the game this year!
Happy birthday to LEGO Universe! Today marks 12 years since the game released. Almost a year of Darkflame Universe being released too!
We'll soon talk about all the cool things that happened to the repository this year, but for now, tell us your favorite memories of the game :)
Our website is back up and our game servers went live again for Crash Testers, this time with the final feature of the test enabled; Properties!
While we're still working on this system and have improvements to make before Closed Beta, here's some properties we visited;
Today we launched our final update to the Crash Tests:
Nimbus Station and the Anniversary Event!
Read more about it on our blog, including a small snippet about what to expect content-wise for Closed Beta;
Our website is back up and we've got a new blog post to share! A quick look back at our long Alpha test, with some new information on Closed Beta access. Take a look;
We're now 8,000 Explorers strong! The Maelstrom won't win, especially not once you return to Nimbus Station to pick up your faction kit in the Beta later this year :)
Thanks for following us and continually joining us on the journey to bring back
#legouniverse
!
Today, we're talking about the current progress of our Crash Tests and what testers should expect for the final Crash Test content update in the future;
It's been 8 years since our extremely early multiplayer tests! We shared some screenshots in our Open Source Launch stream, but here's a few of the exceptionally early ones from 2015.
We hope you've all had a good summer so far, whether it was spent in-game or outside :)
It's been 7 years since we lost contact with the Nexus Force, but fret not Explorers! We are working hard on reestablishing control of worlds like this one :)
This summer on Darkflame Universe, we're looking forward. More Crash Tests are coming, along with more Closed Beta prep. Read more:
That's not all, however; we're welcoming two new developers to our team!
Welcome
@lcdr_Universe
@WincentHolm
!
Thank you all for showing up! The entire team was blown away by the support we received; 3.4k people watching us play LEGO Universe in 2021???
We never expected to see this kind of support so thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
We've received a lot of questions about this; if you choose to host a server and open it up to people, this is something you are legally liable for.
We do not suggest hosting public servers and you do so at your own risk.
Have any fun summer plans, Explorers? We'll still be hard at work getting the Universe ready to visit later this year, but we'll be sure to show plenty in the meantime :)
It's almost spring! While the seasons may not change in-game, we're still taking the opportunity to enjoy a nice day in Avant Gardens. :)
This month also features another milestone for the project; Darkflame Universe has been out to the public longer than LEGO Universe was live!
Oh no! Our Nexus Force agent who was set to introduce you all to Properties was attacked by the Spider Queen. After a long and difficult fight, we're happy to bring you the Property Showcase video;
Looking for something new to do in-game? Well, did you know that the unreleased Reforging feature is available?
Players can "reforge" a piece of gear, taking the stats from one and putting it on another.
Usage: /reforge <item ID to be scrapped> <item ID to be reforged>
To think, back in 2016 we were celebrating 100 followers... Now we've got 6,000! Thank you, LEGO Universe community! Alpha 2 has been a huge step for us and we're working hard to prepare for the future :)
It's been over two weeks since we released our server's source into the world!
If you've gotten a chance to play since we launched, we'd love to see the content you've made! Reply to this tweet with it or tweet at us with
#darkflameuniverse
so we can take a look :)
Another year, another Frostivus in Darkflame Universe! (Jolly Beard not included)
It's been two years since we open sourced initially and we're thrilled to still see players posting videos, contributing to the server repository and talking about LEGO Universe online. :)
We found Bob on an undiscovered world...
We need a team of Explorers who can build presents to give our old friend! Respond to this tweet with your best LEGO creation, either digital or physical, and
#darkflameholiday2019
for a chance to gain access to an exclusive Winter Event!
Attention Explorers: We've seen increased Maelstrom activity in Avant Gardens. Check out the report we received from one brave Explorer who assisted Epsilon in clearing out some Stromlings:
It's almost spooky season in LEGO Universe! We'd love to see some festive creations this month from players, make sure to reply or DM us with yours.
If you'd like your own unreleased Atlantis Squid Helmet, its' item ID is 14128. Have a good fall, Explorers! :)
To set expectations, this is just a website update along with Beta applications opening. As per our last blog post that is currently inaccessible, we've still got additional work on the game and legal side before we'll be ready for Closed Beta. :)
We also recorded some footage of Battle of Nimbus Station to share! Please note this is test footage from our internal servers, so there are bugs present in the footage.
Explorers! We have accumulated enough power to send at least 50 minifigures into our universe again on the date January 31st 2018. We'll need the best of the best! So we'll be accepting applications starting on January 1st. Answer the call! Save imagination!
Happy birthday to LEGO Universe and, by extension, the Maelstrom! Think you'll be ready to help us defeat them?
Check back here in half an hour for a report on increased activity in Avant Gardens, Explorers!
For those of you who don't get a key this time around either; don't fret! We'll be sharing footage of the tests on this Twitter and elsewhere for you to watch :)
Thanks to the tireless work of
@aronwk_aaron
, Nexus Dashboard has just gotten its' first major release! If you're hosting a DLU server for friends and want something to handle moderation, characters, accounts and see fancy analytics, look no further;
It should be noted that Alpha 2 is still our last Alpha phase, so we're not teasing a new Alpha. We are, however, confirming Closed Beta will come later this year. That's all we'll say for now, enjoy 2019 Explorers :)
Explorers! Thank you for waiting so patiently, we understand its been a daunting few months and are so very sorry for the delay. However, we have good news for you! We'll be starting alpha 2 today! Thank you all for your continued loyalty, and support! Sincerely, the DLU team :)
Thanks for entering the contest, Explorers! We're not accepting any more entries. We'll be reaching out to the winners later today. We'll also show some of our favorites in a thread on here :)
Want to visit Frostburgh again? Have any old clients with maps you haven't seen in a long time?
We've published a short guide on two ways to visit these maps. Check it out!
While it will be on streaming services, we recommend supporting this great release by purchasing the full album! Thanks again,
@LEGO_Group
, for this surprise release on the 10th anniversary. :)
Hello Explorers!
We've updated our site to include links to our GitHub, answer common Q&As and where to report servers that misuse our software.
Remember; our software is free and no user should spend money on in-game or out of game benefits related to LEGO Universe.
Alpha 2 sign-ups are now over! We're astonished at the amount of applications we received! Emails will be sent to those selected between today and the 21st of January!
Thanks to our amazing team and the tireless contributors to our GitHub, we've seen so many awesome changes:
๐งฑ Properties much more stable and brick building working consistently!
๐ Mounts and the discovery of the battle mech!
โ๏ธ Skill and combat fixes!
๐๏ธ So many bug fixes!
Also yes, as many of you have asked, our website has been down for extended maintenance. We'll tweet when it has concluded :)
Yes, we're alive. Yes, we're still working, 2k tweets later. :)
While mounts were not included in DLU's initial open source release, they will be soon joining the list of features added since! Take a look at a thread by a member of Darkflame Universe's dev team,
@aronwk_aaron
!
So, I've been working on mounts in DLU, and wanted to share some progress! I got them to work as they were in Live, but I noticed there were more animations unused, like quick building and attacking. Quick builds were easy
We'd like to apologize for the radio silence about the website since the initial downtime in January. The host we were using ran maintenance on our machine and our backup script failed shortly after, resulting in data loss when maintenance was completed.
And, as an additional note; anyone who gets an invitation to the Winter Event here will automatically get access to Closed Beta. Get building, Explorers! We'll pick our favorite entries on December 18th. :)
We can't even begin to type out all the stability improvements, script fixes, and more that contributors have worked on. The game is constantly being improved and we hope you, the community, are enjoying the game and continue to do so for years to come. :)
Explorers! We'd like to thank you all and our testers for your continued support! Our first alpha two test was a major success! We found many bugs, and are planning to roll out more updates and releases shortly :)
A former LU concept artist is quite literally starving while between jobs. If you have any money to spare, please consider donating!
(Of course, he's not affiliated with us, but he did work on the original LU)
