@lindsaycrouse Gap years aren’t “wasted” on 18 year olds. 30 year olds “wasted” their opportunity to take a gap year at 18. I don’t disagree with the fact that anyone at any age should be able to take leave BUT it’s not “wasted” on youth. It’s a valuable life experience at an appropriate time.

I took a job at a factory exchanging labor for a place to sleep and the opportunity to live in a foreign country. It’s not a vacation. I see many who get jobs and utilize the time well.

But if you put in the work and get a job, take the steps and put in the effort it’s possibly to live abroad during a gap year productively and independently. Negotiating rates is understandable and fine until it becomes disrespectful to the creator or artist! If you want to hire a creator, you are seeking their talent and creativity. Lowballing says something about how much you really value their art and skill. Pay artists adequately.
