Carragher says nobody expected Liverpool to be in the title race, so they've overachieved.
Nobody expected Arsenal to be in the title race last season, yet they apparently bottled it.
Michael Oliver booked Arsenal sub, Myles Lewis-Skelly for talking to David Raya before Raya went down needing treatment. PGMOL confirmed that the caution was for ‘showing a lack of respect for the game’. For talking to his own goalkeeper.
They're moaning on the Athletics pod about Trossard being able to serve his suspension in the Carabao Cup and then scoring and assisting v Leicester.
Yes, it's a stupid rule. But again, why is it an issue now?
"I think it’s a mistake. I think it’s another lazy signing. No other Premier League team was going for him." Paul Merson on Odegaard at the start of the season
"They have enhancement of performances through financial resources which are unlimited. For me, it's a kind of doping because it's not in any way linked to their resources," Arsene Wenger, 2005
A lot of pundits on the main papers' podcasts were adamant that Trossard should have been booked for his barge alone. Haaland did this twice, once to Saliba, once to Partey (which was worse). No pundit seemed to notice.
David James says Bukayo Saka should leave Arsenal if he wants to win trophies. James, who played until he was 44, won the League Cup & FA Cup. Saka, who is 21, already has an FA Cup.
Pep Guardiola says
@Arsenal
did NOT deliberately target Rodri on Sunday, with the midfielder now facing 'a long time’ on the sidelines ❌
The
@ManCity
boss also reveals he and Arteta have exchanged friendly text messages following the 2-2 draw 🤝

Postecoglu praised Udogie for 'dominating' Saka. Udogie, who should have been sent off, lost 10 of his 19 ground battles, won only half his tackles, was dispossessed 3 times, was dribbled past twice, won no aerial duels, and committed 4 fouls
Mad that PGMOL has a ref that can see through bodies to notice Declan Rice roll a ball 3 millimetres but also a ref who can't see Vicario handle the ball outside the box right in front of his face.
Referee deflected the ball, allowing Man City to break and score, Arsenal players were annoyed, Arsenal get charged by FA...It's the same charge the men got for being annoyed about Gabriel's red card.
Something of a pattern here...
There is no shame losing the Premier League to 115 charges City on the final day.
There is plenty of shame celebrating your own club losing and missing out on Champions League football.
So, Arsenal wanted to play the game behind closed doors and the police said no. Arsenal wanted to flip the fixture but that wasn't allowed. either.
Yet we still have to play it before the WC break and might not be able to move any other fixtures to accommodate.
Very helpful 🤪
Former referee Keith Hackett has claimed that phone calls were made instructing pundits to quieten down in their criticism of officials, following Arsenal's defeat to Newcastle United.
More here -
Eddie Howe calling for 'more severe' punishments for managers who 'bully' referees. How about we start with the corruption of your entire club and work from there, Eddie, huh?
Apologies to all non Arsenal fans but all you're going to get from Arsenal fans the rest of the season is highlighting things others don't get sent off for that Arsenal players do.
Might look like it, but Arsenal's anger is not because of one match, it's after years of it. It's the Gabriel Martinelli double yellow, it's the non-red for Kovacic, it's the penalties never given and the stupid reasons they give to rule out goals. It's all of it.
Watching that Vicario deliberate handball outside the box it becomes even more evident that referees have far more 'choice' than they told us after Declan Rice.
Every time something ridiculous happens in an Arsenal game because of the officials, the same thing is not punished in the very next game.
All. Season. Long.
Straight leg into Odegaard's shin. Not a yellow.
Kicking the ball away 40 yards
Not a yellow.
Elbow to Saka's face. Not a free kick.
Shirt pull on Saka. Not a yellow.
Off the ball shove on Saka. Not a free kick.
2 Brighton players calling for a yellow. Not a yellow.
Clattenburg says Havertz challenge wasn't a red but "Had Stuart Attwell sent off Bruno Guimaraes and not Kai Havertz for his earlier tackle he’d have lost the respect of the players".
Amazing.
Earlier this morning, Arsenal's Rafaelle lifted the Copa America as Brazil captain. Tonight, Arsenal's Leah Williamson lifts the Euro trophy as England captain 👏
Unai Emery got 78 games as Arsenal boss and we sacked him after 20 defeats. Arteta has had 88 and has lost 25.
Emery drew 15, Arteta has drawn 16.
He's not better. There is no progress and it's always 'wait til [insert thing] then we will see'.
We've seen.
It's not working.
If we imagine Elneny has done his ACL and will be out 9 months - a year, that would mean Arsenal dumping him half way through his rehab.
We aren't that sort of club.
Tottenham Hotspur's reported pursuit of Sporting Lisbon's Morten Hjulmand has hit an unusual snag. The midfielder's potential move has become complicated by an unexpected detail – an Arsenal tattoo and Hjulmand's admitted childhood admiration of the Gunners.
Chelsea look set to sell Omari Hutchinson this summer after a season on loan with Ipswich. The youngster, who was impatient at Arsenal and left for Chelsea in 2022, has made 2 appearances for them.
'Tottenham only defended, Zurich only defended - if you do that you won't stand a chance against them.' Bodo/Glimt's head coach, Kjetil Knutsen on Arsenal
22 years after taking his own life, Justin Fashanu, the first £1m black footballer and prof. to come out as gay, will finally be inducted into the Football Hall of Fame.
He would have turned 59 today.
-if we’re going to give this as a penalty, I could find plenty of other examples when the same ‘foul’ has occurred in the box in other games. The inconsistency is frustrating because when this happens next week in another Premier League game, will it be given?
