I promise that finding a "good fit" school is more important than going D1. There's no sense in bragging about going to a D1 school if you wake up every morning unhappy to be there. Trust me, I've experienced it. Pick the school that's best for you. Not the highest rated.

GRADES MATTER. Can't tell you how many times a player has received interest from a coach, everyone is excited, but they can't get the player into the school. Because of grades. This is heart-breaking. You want to avoid this. Do your homework. Study for tests.

Don't narrow your school list. Reach out to D1s. Reach out to D2s. Reach out to D3s. Reach out to NAIA schools. Reach out to JCs. Contact hundreds of schools. Generate lots of interest. Filter down from that interest. This is the way.

D1 sports are hard. There's a lot of sacrifice required. They're not for everyone. Lots of athletes would have a much better time in college if they played at a D2, D3, or NAIA school. But it's hard to convince at 16 year old of this.

I think it's entirely possible that your kid is motivated to play at the next level, but not motivated to send emails, make videos, etc. There's a TON on these kids' plates. Between school, practices, games, lessons, workouts, chores, homework, tests, and fun...it's a lot.

JV video is okay for freshman year. But after that, understand this... Coaches will ask: "Why are you not on varsity?" You need to have a good answer. Otherwise, they're gonna assume it's a lack of talent.

D3, NAIA, and JC are not "easy" anymore. They're highly competitive since the transfer portal is creating a trickle-down effect from D1. Tons of parents who think their kid is a shoe-in at these levels, when in reality, they'll have to fight, scratch, and claw their way there.

Emailing college coaches is saturated. Coaches get thousands of emails. This doesn't mean emailing coaches doesn't work. It does. But it also means you can't just whip off 20 sub-par emails and think it's gonna work. There has to be intention & strategy behind them.

You need 2 things to get a scholarship: - Talent - Marketing These things are inversely proportional. Meaning, the more talent you have, the less marketing you need to do. If you're in the top 10% of athletes, you probably don't need much. IF you're in the other 90%, you do.
