EMILYs List Comms, Proud Obama/Hillary alum. Tar Heel. Marine brat. Feminist. Just waiting for the next basketball season. Opinions are mine. She/her/hers
A bright spot in a long week (for me, if not for Rosie) was getting my first copy of Run to Win in the mail. Such a pleasure to get to work on
@Schriock1
’s first book. Can’t wait for you to read it—order here:
My dad flew Marine One for three presidents and one VP who later became president. Seeing it used for Trump's propaganda, particularly after he put those pilots at risk, is heartbreaking. Hope none of those Marines get sick.
Just a quick note of thanks to every brave woman who puts her name on the ballot to make her community--and all of our communities--better.
Thank you Elizabeth.
Thank you Kamala.
Thank you Amy.
Thank you Kirsten.
Thank you Hillary.
Thank you Carol.
Thank you Shirley.
If you supported Bernie staying in the primary in 2016 long after he was mathematically viable but think Warren not dropping out after four states have voted is wrong and inexcusable, ask yourself why.
HUGE thank you to the amazing volunteers and the folks on the ground who did the work to ensure abortion rights were protected in Kansas. The impact for the whole region--where so many states have banned abortion--cannot be overstated.
Still completely baffled that an incredibly qualified woman is being attacked for negative tweets by many people who spent years willfully ignoring a man whose tweets were so dangerous he got PERMANENTLY booted from the platform.
A few months ago Republicans were heralding the fact that abortion decisions were being sent back to the voter and to the states. Now they want a national abortion ban. Make no mistake: the only thing they're consistent about is that they want to ban abortion. Period.
I did rapid response for many years and for several presidential campaigns and I don’t remember ever putting out a video proving that my candidate said exactly what I was claiming they didn’t.
It’s bold, if you don’t care about the truth at all.
Honestly, this is Nancy Pelosi's fault. She made running the House and actually passing bills look easy all those years. They thought they could do it too.
Please do not discount the history being made today:
The first Muslim women to serve in the House
The first Latinas in the House from Texas
The first Native American women in the House
The first Native American woman elected statewide in Minnesota
AND MORE....
Um, Vivek Ramaswamy is currently claiming Republicans can win on abortion by talking more about adoption and “sexual responsibility for men.”
Dear Republicans: please try this.
The
#WhyIDidntReport
tweets are powerful, but please understand that those are only coming from people comfortable about talking about what happened to them in some way. There are many people who are still silent. This represents just a portion of the problem we face as a society
Well, this is a new one. Bo Hines, running for House in NC, "wants victims of rape and incest to be allowed to get an abortion on a case-by-case basis through a community-level review process outside the jurisdiction of the federal government."
I started in the Obama White House on day two in 2009. I felt lucky every day to be there, but it was also the hardest job I've ever had, bar none. The pressure was incredible, knowing how much we were trying to do and how badly people needed problems fixed right away.
She would have been a great president, but given where we are, I’m at least glad this accomplished and very nice woman is getting to live her best life.
I am proudly going to vote for
@ewarren
tomorrow and I hope you’ll join me. But it’s a primary and we won’t all agree. This is the time to fight that out. If only we could do that without assuming that people supporting another candidate don’t have the right motives.
Hillary Clinton called Trump to concede on Election night and gave a concession speech the next day. Not liking the results is not the same thing as not accepting them.
Can we stop with the stories arguing that the Democrats are facing a divided caucus because of a leadership election while the Republicans have a guy accused of ignoring widespread sexual abuse running for speaker and none of them seem to get asked about it?
I know the media’s got a lot to deal with these days, but please check yourself/your outlet on the inherent misogyny in the way we describe women in politics. Don’t talk about women’s voices just because they sound different then men’s. Stop calling women unlikeable. Period.
The fact that
@AOC
was a campaign staffer for
@BernieSanders
, ran for office herself and now is nominating him as a House member with a powerful platform and critical voice is pretty fantastic.
I love this woman.
@ewarren
: I'm in this race because I believe I will make the best president of the United States. And I want to tell you why: I was not born a politician but I was born a fighter.
When Hillary's book came out, a decent amount of the coverage/commentary was on whether it was appropriate that she write it, talk about it, etc.
I assume James Comey will face the same questions, right?
When I was a kid, my dad would be gone for 6-month deployments so often that we got used to it. Today he's been gone for a whole deployment and I still can't believe that this one won't end.
Hug your loved ones a little closer today in honor of a good Marine and great dad.
Chuck Grassley: "“I think not having the estate tax recognizes the people that are investing, as opposed to those that are just spending every darn penny they have, whether it’s on booze or women or movies."
HOLD THE DATE! On November 3, 2020, we will be holding one of the biggest displays ever of patriotism and standing up for the rights and futures of all Americans when we vote Trump and his Republican allies out. Major displays of a blue wave and progressive values.
So we have multiple stories on how one campaign is in peril and it's the one who has an organization in many future states, placed third in the first contest and is still polling well nationally and in Super Tuesday states (see yesterday's CA poll).
Someone explain that to me.
It’s not on Fairfax to fix this. It’s not on people of color to answer for racist behavior, just like it’s not on women to answer for sexual harassment or assault. It’s on Northam. Period.
It seems like Schultz already has more coverage than any of the very serious women in the race, who have built serious campaigns and had successful events (in one case with big crowds and big $ raised). We’re just going to do Trump coverage from 2016 all over again, huh?
This is a silly victory, but I made a resolution this year to walk at least 10K steps a day, and midway through the year, I have done it every day. Many days I literally had to walk in circles around my dog (who is tired of walks) or up and down my hallway, but I'll take the win.
Hey,
@hulu
: huge majorities of this country support abortion rights. Your decision to refuse ads that talk about it--that's what's controversial. You're picking the wrong side here by banning ads that talk about reproductive rights.
I know no one leaves voicemails any more, but I will probably never leave my lousy phone provider just so I can listen to the two voicemails I have from my dad on my phone whenever I want.
Leave a voicemail every now and again. You never know when someone might need it.
65 women of bipartisan backgrounds who knew Judge Kavanaugh in high school: "For the entire time we have known Brett Kavanaugh, he has behaved honorably and treated women with respect" & has "stood out for his friendship, character, and integrity"

These numbers are not surprising to most women on Twitter. Follow more women. Retweet women. And while we’re at it, seek women out as sources too.
And if you’re a man and an ally, before you assume this isn’t you, take a real look at your feed.
Polls are open in Virginia with narrow Republican majorities in the state legislature at stake. Control of the House was literally decided in 2017 by pulling a name out of a bowl, so every vote matters!
Dear news networks: if you acknowledge there’s no evidence that either Democrats planned the caravan or that the caravan includes terrorists, stop airing the President saying it on your national news.
You know he lies. Stop helping him do it.
We talked about the threat to immigrants.
We talked about the nods to white supremacists.
We talked about his love of authoritarian dictators.
They weren't just campaign attacks. They were warnings.
“Still, the Clinton campaign is using slippery language to suggest that Trump’s attacks on illegal immigrants are actually a broader assault on all immigrants.” -Washington Post fact checker, awarding two Pinocchios, Aug. 2016
Here's what I find remarkable:
After the Ossoff loss, pundits mostly talked down Democrats--maybe we just couldn't win.
Now, pundits are pointing out that we outran the Trump margins even in the losses.
The lesson? Don't listen to pundits. Just do the work.
Kamala just broke Zoom again.
Tonight's Zoom to support Kamala Harris is now the first EVER IN HISTORY to have over 100,000 participants.

NEW: Rep. Gaetz bragged about his sexual escapades to colleagues, showing nude photos and videos of women he said he slept with, including while on the floor, sources tell CNN. One video showed a naked women with a hula hoop. W/
@foxreports
@ryannobles
Please do not report that the Republicans support IVF without noting their actual records, or asking them if that means they do not think embryos are people.
Stop it with this “identity politics” nonsense. First, if you’re a woman or a person of color, it’s just politics. And you don’t get to avoid it—it’s literally your identity. But also, the whole idea assumes that any other kind of politics is both better and aimed at white men.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that Democratic votes are not swayed by Joe Lieberman. So can we avoid the pending “dems in disarray” stories based on a Wall Street Journal oped?
I don't know how anyone has lasted a year in the middle of a pandemic, in the midst of a Big Lie and all that we're facing. I'm grateful for everyone that has. But I wish we would just thank them for their great and VERY HARD WORK and stop making it a statement on something else
To national reporters who might cover Silent Sam, the confederate monument at UNC, coming down, please make sure you tell the whole story--particularly the racist dedication speech. This statue was not about history, it was about racism.
I'm so glad it's down. This statue was not about honoring students who died. It was, as was made clear in the dedication speeches of this specific monument and so many others, a monument to white supremacy. It has no place at the oldest public university.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but everyone running for office has ambition. To win, yes, and to make change. Stop punishing women for daring to have something men are praised for having.
Hey, media: I think the two women in the race are showing you tonight why you should stop pretending they are not in the race. Klobuchar and Warren are making great cases tonight.
It's important work, so it probably should be hard and should be high pressure. But why is it we can write think pieces about the big resignation or how people need breaks or are quitting jobs because of the pandemic and then assume it must be different for the White House?
When I visited an immigration detention center housing the children separated from their families, I was barred entry & the police were called on me. The front doors were locked and blacked out. What are they hiding about the conditions these innocent children are being held in?
I love that
@ZerlinaMaxwell
has
@JulianCastro
on to talk about the sexism and racism facing the VP candidates. It’s not just on women to solve these problems.
Just a tip to anyone who wants to argue that Biden should pick the most qualified candidate instead of announcing he will pick the first ever Black woman justice: WHY DO YOU ASSUME THOSE AREN'T THE SAME?
You are telling on yourself with arguments like that.
Just saw a thing that said "Be the CEO your parents wanted you to marry" and felt incredibly grateful that I was born to two parents who always wanted me to be the thing, not marry the thing.
CNN's Dana Bash: You said in 2014 that Obama showed "failed leadership" with Ebola, when only 2 Americans died. Would you say Trump's showed failed leadership with coronavirus as 130,000 Americans have died?
Sen. Joni Ernst: "No, I think that the president is stepping forward"
NBC just billed an entire piece on reaction to Howard Schultz’s run as “Democratic Division,” despite the fact that the Dems in their story seemed united in their opposition to his run. Can we skip the Dems in disarray storyline if we’re not actually divided?
Sanders lied in the briefing. Plain and simple.
I hope the media writes this--if Josh or Jay had told a lie about disclosure like this, it would have been news and would have been written. People need to know.
It's funny how pundits talk a lot about civility and senatorial behavior and still ignore Sen. Kennedy making yet another offensive remark about the Vice President. Are we really more bothered by Sen. Fetterman's shorts than by racist remarks against a powerful woman?
As
@jmpalmieri
once noted, "There's something about her I just don't like," is code for "she's a woman who's come under fire for years for no particularly good reason."
Lately, I've been asking people why they dislike Pelosi. Turns out, most people don't know WHY they hate her, they just do. It seems lost on them that the reason they hate her is a decade of negative attacks by the GOP. It's very similar to HRC.
Don't get me wrong, I love seeing a poll where a pro-choice Democratic woman is beating a Republican. But then I put it away and get back to work, because POLLS DON'T VOTE. We have to work every day from now until Election Day. Every. Damn. Day.
