Russell Wilson wants the Seahawks to address the offensive line. I can only imagine his reaction to Patrick Mahomes getting Joe Thuney & Lamar Jackson winding up with his former Wisconsin teammate Kevin Zeitler.
Brian Burns' contract negotiating position with the Panthers should be if 2 first round picks aren't enough for me, then I'm valuable enough to you to be the league's highest paid edge rusher.
Carolina rejected an offer of two 1st-round picks for DE Brian Burns, per sources.
Carolina now has no intention of trading Burns, Derrick Brown, Jaycee Horn and DJ Moore before next Tuesday’s trade deadline.
Richard Sherman the agent didn't do Richard Sherman the player any favors. He has $2M in per game 46-man active roster bonuses so he's out $125,000 for each game he misses with the calf strain. Sherman can probably kiss a $1M incentive for 90% or more defensive playtime goodbye.
The KC Chiefs would create $21.92M of 2022 salary cap room by converting Patrick Mahomes' $27.4M 3rd day of the 2022 league year roster bonus (3/18) into signing bonus. Mahomes' 2022 cap number would go from $35,793,381 to $13,873,381.
#Chiefs
should have around $6M in cap space in 2022 but loads of flexibility with Mahome's cap number plus some defensive players who could be unloaded.
21 offensive players didn't miss a snap this season. 20 of the 21 are offensive linemen, including Joel Bitonio, Quenton Nelson & Laremy Tunsil. Seahawks QB Geno Smith is the only one that isn't an offensive lineman.
Chiefs WR JuJu Smith-Schuster didn't meet the criteria for a $1M incentive due to a knee injury in the AFC title game. He needed at least 50% offensive playtime in a KC win, 65 catches & 900 receiving yards in the regular season. He had 45% playtime. Hopefully, it's paid anyway.
The 4th year salary (2022) in Raiders DE Maxx Crosby's rookie contract escalates to $3.861M, which is 2022 2nd round RFA tender, because of his Pro Bowl selection.
I remember Derek Carr talking about taking less so Gabe Jackson & Khalil Mack could be kept in his signing press conference. Carr found out that the notion shouldn't be a consideration again if he's ever in a position for another big contract.
Rams should be thankful Cooper Kupp is looking for what's fair, like Matthew Stafford, instead of re-setting the WR market. After arguably having the greatest season ever catching passes, he would be justified in seeking to become the NFL's highest paid WR.
The 2020 CBA removing the ability of teams to waive or reduce the $50,000 per day fine is why most veteran players in a contract dispute have been holding in instead of holding out. It will be interesting to see how long Chris Jones is willing to incur the daily $50,000 fine.
The Cowboys don't need salary cap space from Dak Prescott for a CeeDee Lamb extension. Lamb's 2024 cap number would drop from $17.991M to $7.291M in a new deal with a WR record $30.5M signing bonus where his 2024 base salary is $1.191M. That would be $10.7M of 2024 cap relief.
J.J. Watt's request is being honored but not Deshaun Watson's because of the benefit to the Texans. $17.5M of salary cap room is gained from parting ways with Watt.
Charvarius Ward earns a $250,000 incentive for his 2nd team All-Pro selection. His Pro Bowl berth was also worth $250,000. Ward earns the entire $500,000 of his honors incentives.
At this point, I'm pretty sure the Colts feel that getting DeForest Buckner & paying him $21M per year was well worth giving up their 2020 1st round pick.
The more talented the player, the more "bullshit" a team will put up with. Those types of players are the 1st to go once the "bullshit" outweighs the talent.
Jimmy Garoppolo earns $350,000 as an incentive because of playing at least 25% of San Francisco's offensive snaps in the victory over Seattle. $250,000 is for the playtime with the additional $100,000 for the win.
One of school of thought is Patrick Mahomes took all of the money in KC so Chris Jones doesn't have a future with the Chiefs. Cost certainty with Mahomes might pave the way for a Jones long term deal. We'll see which one is right.
I've never thought Aaron Rodgers was retiring. He definitely isn't now. There's no way Rodgers is going to be in the same Hall of Fame class as Tom Brady where he would take a backseat.
I'd love to see Demarcus Lawrence put Stephen Jones' stand for the national anthem or cut policy to the test. His $17.143M franchise tag is fully GTD without an offset. If Dallas didn't get rid of him, continually doing so would probably prevent a 2nd franchise tag in 2019.
I don't really care if I come off as condescending or asshole-ish. I'm tired of people who never worked in an industry that I've been involved with for last 25 years in some capacity telling me how things in the business work. It's happening with increasing frequency.
Jerry Jones: “We want to get all the help around (Dak), but when you have a competitive paid QB, you’re not gonna be able to get the most skill around him. You’re gonna have to pick your spots. It’ll be hard to get to a supporting cast the way he had when he started his career.”
Trent Baalke & Bill O'Brien would be a perfect match. One guy won a power struggle with a head coach (Jim Harbaugh). The other guy won a power struggle with a GM (Rick Smith). Let the backstabbing begin.
Cody Parkey's miss was worth $1M to Nick Foles. He makes $1M in incentives today instead of $500,000 & at least $500,000 for the divisional playoffs (assumes Foles takes 33% or more of offensive snaps against the Saints).
Odell Beckham, Jr. would be subject to waivers if the Browns cut him. A team would need $8,055,556 of salary cap room to claim him. Contending teams don't have that much. Jags & Eagles lead NFL with $27.88M & $20.87M of cap space.
I'm told
#Browns
WR Odell Beckham Jr. has been told he's excused from practice today, per league source. Additionally, it is my understanding that OBJ was ready to attend practice per usual.
Earl Thomas must be thinking "What the fuck? First, Duane Brown. Now, Tyler Lockett." That being said, trying to strong arm the Seahawks into a deal through a holdout didn't work for Kam Chancellor in 2015.
I would imagine DeAndre Hopkins getting a new deal with 3 years left & before playing a down for the Cardinals didn't sit too well with Chandler Jones, who was coming off a 19 sack season at the time. As an agent, clients would privately vent about similar situations.
All-Pro pass rusher Chandler Jones requested a trade from the Arizona Cardinals this offseason, per sources. Jones has been unhappy with his contract and future with the team. Cardinals don’t want to trade him and expect him to report to camp. But certainly a situation to watch.
Leonard Fournette gets to double dip because his fully guaranteed $4,167,393 2020 base salary doesn't have an offset. He makes the entire Jags amount plus whatever he signs for with another team.
Asked how Josh Allen’s deal impacts Lamar Jackson’s potential contract extension, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said: “There’s really not a hurry for us. He’s going to be our quarterback for years to come.”
Dak Prescott's performance against the Packers doesn't change that he has $59.455M 2024 salary cap number, a no trade clause & a provision preventing a franchise tag in 2025, which still gives him leverage in talks about a contract extension.
The NY Giants planning to bring Daniel Jones back in 2022 when $765,000 of his $965,000 base salary & $3,229,644 3rd day of training camp roster bonus are fully guaranteed isn't a shocker. Picking up a fully guaranteed 5th year option in 2023 for a projected $22.386M would be.
Raiders WR DeSean Jackson has financial reasons to root for the Rams. In addition to the $37,500 of playoff money he got with the Raiders, he'll get the same as Aaron Donald & Matthew Stafford starting with the NFC Championship. He was with the Rams 8 games prior to his release.
Personally, I'd love for Tom Brady to tell Robert Kraft that something needs to be done about him making $30M over the next 2 years while his former backup is at $61.2M.
Kicking in a blizzard could cost Adam Vinatieri a $500,000 incentive. He needs to hit at least 90% of his field goals this season to get it. He was at 95.7% before the Buffalo game. He's now at 88%.
As a 2019 4th round pick, Maxx Crosby is making $850,000 (his league minimum salary) for the 2021 season. Crosby isn't eligible to sign a contract extension until the 2021 regular season ends.
49ers edge rusher Dee Ford's injury guaranteed $4.6M April 1 roster bonus is fully guaranteed on the 2nd business day after the 2021 league year Super Bowl, which is today.
Todd Gurley didn't play any of the new years in his Rams contract extension. He was scheduled to make $11,949,978 in the last 2 years of his rookie deal. Gurley gets $34.5M from the extension ($2.5M with offset), which is $22,550,022 more than playing out his rookie contract.
Under the rules for NFL postseason pay, Damar Hamlin will be getting the same amount while on IR as Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs & company for each of Buffalo's playoff rounds. It's $319,000 if the Bills win the Super Bowl.
Jimmy Garoppolo should be rooting for a Pats victory over the Titans. He'll get $51,000 in playoff money if Pats are in the AFC Championship because he was them for at least 8 games this season & plays with a NFC team. Same is true for Cassius Marsh.
Russell Wilson hurts Lamar Jackson trying to get a fully guaranteed contract. Ravens will surely insist that Deshaun Watson's deal is an anomaly, much like Kirk Cousins' was in 2018, after Wilson & Kyler Murray's contracts.
Seattle probably needs to be prepared to pay more than it refused to give Frank Clark ($20.8M per year/$62.305M in guarantees/$43.805M fully guaranteed at signing) if serious about keeping Jadeveon Clowney.
The Las Vegas Raiders & Pittsburgh Steelers are the only two playoff teams with negative point differentials. It's -65 for the Raiders & -55 for the Steelers.
After giving up significant assets for Laremy Tunsil & neglecting to sign him to a new deal when the trade was made, the Texans might as well give him a blank contract & have him fill it in how he likes.
If still an agent, I wouldn't recommend clients signing with the Jets in free agency because of Kelechi Osemele & prolonged unreasonableness with payment schedule of Quinnen Willams' signing bonus unless no other options or much better money than somewhere else.
CB Rashad Fenton has financial reasons to root for the Chiefs. He gets 1/2 a Super Bowl share ($41,000-loss/$78,500-win) because of his 7-game stint with KC before his trade to the Falcons. He also gets $34,500 for KC's AFC title game appearance.
This language is in Deshaun Watson's contract (no trade clause).
Club shall not be permitted to trade Player's Contract to any other Club in the NFL during the 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 or 2025 NFL League Years without Player's prior written consent.
Tom Brady (yes Tom Brady) was the NFL's highest paid player in 2011 at $18M per year when the salary cap was $120.375M. It's now Aaron Rodgers at $33.5M with a $177.2M cap. The QB increase (86.1%) is easily outpacing the growth in the salary cap (47.2%) during this span.
The best thing the Washington Commanders did with Carson Wentz was leave his contract alone. $26,176,471 of 2023 salary cap room will be gained if he's gone by the 3rd day of 2023 league year (3/17) when $4M of his $20M base salary is fully GTD & his $5M roster bonus is due.
Justin Herbert getting his deal done now means his $3,224,375 5th day of training camp roster bonus isn't locked in as 2023 salary cap charge. The roster bonus can be converted into signing bonus since it hasn't been earned yet.
Over the last 12 months, the top of the QB market has gone from $27M per year (Matthew Stafford) to $33.5M (Aaron Rodgers). That's a 24.1% increase. If Khalil Mack or Aaron Donald could do the same for non-QBs, they would get deals averaging approximately $23.675M per year.
NFL CBA Article 31 specifically states that the league and/or clubs shall not increase the regular season to 18 games. The CBA expires on the last day of the 2030 league year. The NFL should have to make monumental concessions to get the NFLPA to seriously entertain.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is mulling a future with 18 regular-season games, a President's Day weekend Super Bowl and a significant increase in international games.

:
No consistency with NFL suspensions for on field activity. If Thomas Davis deserves 2 games, then Rob Gronkowski's should have been at least 3 games. Davis could get at least a one game reduction through an appeal.
Maybe Dallas should stop fucking around & give DeMarcus Lawrence his money. I would advise him to use any potential leverage he had if repping him. Maybe one day teams will learn that waiting to pay Pro Bowl caliber players is usually more costly in the long run.
@corryjoel
True. But why would a team give him an extension late into May and June if he isn’t going to be around for a full season or even play at all? Shows a lot about character if ur planning on taking a teams 20m tag money and having surgery to specifically sit out entire season right?
It won't matter how many draft picks the Raiders accumulate if Jon Gruden's pre-draft take on Nathan Peterman is a true indicator of his ability to evaluate talent.
Bad info. Jimmy Garoppolo's $11.25M 2024 base salary became fully GTD when he passed his physical. Since there isn't any post-June 1 treatment with future salary guarantees when a player is released, this $11.25M would accelerate & become a 2023 salary cap charge.
With $11.25 million in injury guarantees for 2024, it makes plenty of sense for the Raiders to cut benched QB Jimmy Garoppolo, before he gets injured in the weight room or at practice.
The $2,501,124 of salary guarantees in Rueben Foster's 2018 to 2020 contract years are as good as gone. There's language in Foster's contract where a fine under NFL drug policies (provided it isn't vacated on appeal) voids the guarantees.
The Bengals are probably going to have a real problem signing Joe Burrow to a contract extension unless an exception on salary guarantees is made because of Deshaun Watson's new deal.
Great day for Amari Cooper. As long as he doesn't have a serious regression, he should sign for more than Michael Thomas thanks to Julio Jones. Cooper makes roughly $53.5M thru 2021 going year-to-year with 2 franchise tags & would be free at 27 if he doesn't like Dallas offers.
If Redskins aren't willing to easily make Brandon Scherff the NFL's highest paid OG ($15M per year or more), he should test the open market in 2020. OGs typically aren't franchised. Recent history suggests a Pro Bowl caliber OG in his prime will re-set the market in free agency.
Another fully guaranteed contract is exactly what NFL players need. Now somebody else needs to capitalize on it, which didn't happen after Kirk Cousins got one in 2018.
Tyler Lockett maxed out his $1.2M of incentives by reaching 1,000 receiving yards & 10 TDs. His 2021 base salary also escalates from $9.8M to $11M because of the $1.2M of incentives earned.
Joel Segal, Amari Cooper's agent, has no incentive to get anything done with Dallas until Julio Jones & Michael Thomas have new contracts since the deals should positively impact the WR market.
