I made a little farewell video for Joe Maddon. Seemed only fitting to use Andy Bernard’s performance in The Office finale, Joe’s favorite, as the song.
Thank you for everything, Joe.
If you’re watching the 4th place Cubs and 5th place Reds and thinking “boy, I wish I could watch these two terrible teams play baseball in a famous corn field” boy have I got some exciting news for you.
Through 10 games, here’s what we’ve seen from David Ross:
- Best hitters get the most PAs
- Happ 8/10 starts in CF over AA
- Kimbrel removed as closer quickly after looking terrible
- Team taking COVID protocols extremely seriously
- Dugout is constantly VIBING
I’m in love.
In honor of David Ross’ birthday today, thinking about Joe Maddon removing him mid inning so he could get a standing ovation in his last regular season home game at Wrigley Field.
Cubs win. Pirates lose.
Just 4.5 back now. 4 more with the Pirates by next Wednesday.
MIL has lost 6 in a row. STL is a mess.
Division is in shambles. Go on a run here and take the damn thing over.
Javy Báez, Kris Bryant, and Anthony Rizzo celebrating a home run together as Chicago Cubs.
A beautiful sight that we’ve seen many times over the years. I never took it for granted, but still taking it as much as possible.
Read on his IG yesterday that after 40 years, Stephen Green is stepping back as the Cubs team photographer.
We’re lucky to have gotten to see his work over the years, so wanted to share one of my favorite shots of his.
Anthony Rizzo changed my life. I dreamt every day of the Cubs winning a World Series, and Anthony led us there.
At this moment, aside from hoping he comes back in the spring, all I hope is that he knows how much we love him and what he means to Cubs fans.
Jordan Wicks and Javier Assad’s combined numbers as starters this season for the Cubs:
56.2 IP, 47 H, 14 ER, 43 K, 16 BB
2.22 ERA
Unreal homegrown contributions stepping up in the middle of a playoff race.
So, predictably, Pat Hughes’ call of Morel’s home run is incredible.
He leads into the 3-2 pitch with a description of the electric crowd at Wrigley and this is what makes it special, and on cue Morel blasts a homer.
What a call from the 🐐
Plenty of Cubs decisions to disagree w over the years. Not extending Rizzo would be another universe.
Not the same as other extensions. Rizzo is in a class by himself. He IS the Chicago Cubs.
Not treating him right would be one of the biggest mistakes in franchise history.
Obviously Seiya needs to catch that ball.
But you got to that point because your pitching staff couldn’t hold a 6-0 lead and you started bunting against the league’s best offense.
They’re not here without Seiya, so spare me making him the scapegoat.
Happy anniversary to all who celebrate.
Always get chills watching the Bryan Cranston narrated intro to Game 7 of the 2016 World Series.
Never forget that the Chicago Cubs won a World Series in our lifetime.
Richard Williams, a lifelong Cubs fans, in the stands at Wrigley Field to see his son receive a standing ovation in his first start as a Cub.
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
"To have to hear that song again."
John Schriffen has heard enough of "Go Cubs Go" as the Cubs walk it off against the White Sox.
That's 13 losses in a row for the White Sox.
Rizzo said on The Compound pod that nobody asked for the trophy when the Cubs plane landed after winning the World Series so he just took it home with him that night.
Anthony Rizzo woke up the next morning in bed with the World Series trophy and that’s the best thing ever.
You know why Cubs fans are the best?
I’m at the Pearl Jam show at the United Center. This man pulled out the W flag during Even Flow the SECOND the final out showed up on Gameday.
FLY THE W. SING THE SONG. EDDIE VEDDER FOREVER.
I often miss Ben Zobrist. I especially miss him when my phone reminds me that OTD in 2016, he took Max Scherzer deep twice on a beautiful day at Wrigley.
Me in November of 2016: I will give literally anything for the Cubs to win this one game. I will never ask for or complain about anything related to sports ever again.
The universe: BET

2B Brendan Rodgers (dislocated left shoulder) has more damage than expected to the shoulder capsule. Doctors are still checking, but surgery is possible, which could threaten his season.
5 IP, 1 ER
5 IP, 1 ER
6.2 IP, 2 ER
6 IP, 1 ER
Jordan Wicks has come up and delivered nothing but winnable starts for this team. Incredible start to his MLB career and just massive in a playoff race.
On this day in 2014, Jon Lester was introduced as the newest member of the Chicago Cubs.
He said "call it cocky, call it arrogant, call it whatever you want. I'm a winner, and that's what I came here to do."
Two years later, the Chicago Cubs were World Series Champs.
Best of luck to Christopher Morel in Tampa.
I remain a big believer in his bat and he’s been an incredibly fun player to watch and root for.
Cheers Christopher!
Somebody give me a couple billion dollars so I can buy the Cubs. Here are some of my promises:
- Immediate extensions for Rizzo, Bryant, and Báez.
- Top payroll in the league every year. Roster expenses come FIRST.
- Sosa welcomed back
- All hot dog stands have grilled onions
Marcus Stroman and Justin Steele combined numbers through two starts each:
24.0 IP
1 ER
25 K
11 BB
4 games, 4 quality starts.
Top of the Cubs rotation getting it done.
Pat Hughes is going to deliver the greatest Uniform Description sponsored by Benjamin Moore tomorrow of his life. We are all not even remotely prepared for the greatness that is coming.
In honor of Anthony Rizzo hitting his 300th career home run, here’s one of my all time favorites.
Opening Day 2.0 in 2021.
14 pitch AB.
Game-tying homer against STL.
Love ya forever, Tony.
Want to reiterate that Kris Bryant today:
- Expressed concern over MLB test protocols, wanting to ensure everyone’s safety
- Noted desire to spend career w/ Cubs, how much he loves the city/fans
- Referred to his son as a “big chunkster”
If he is not extended FOR LIFE, we riot.
