A little sneak peek at Overwatch's next hero!
This is the first new hero to the game I've been able to work on - and boy oh boy am I excited for y'all to see what she can do🌞
Today marks my last day working at Respawn on Apex Legends.
Leading the team animating these two badass ladies was a blast.
I feel truly privileged to have had a chance to contribute to such an awesome game, and be a part of such an inspiring animation crew.
Much love team <3.
Get ready for even more

crossovers 👀
Aimee Dennett confirmed that the first collaborations for next year are already set and that there will be "more than this year" through 2024!
What IP would YOU like to see in-game next? 🗳️
I animated it like that for this exact reason 🙏 - Illari isn't the type of person to make eye contact with you when she's waving. She'd rather do a quick gesture and move on.
I've been a part of the animation team for Juno, and I wanted to share some of our process with you!
I hope this gives you a bit of insight into animating heroes on
@PlayOverwatch
. It's a labor of love from every department - and the team has been ecstatic about the warm

Hope everyone is enjoying playing her in season 12!

🦇Vantage Character Select Animation 🦇
This was without a doubt the biggest animation I had for Vantage. There were a lot of things to juggle - but 87 versions later, I'm happy with how it came out.
Hop in and give her a shot! And let me know what you think :)
A 🧵thread🧵 on the Animation process of the Loba Heirloom Banner Frame!
I wanted to give a bit of insight into it's creation, as well as some of my own personal process while working on shots like this.
Vivi Battle Animation!
I wanted to throw together a quick video showing my process.
Thanks to the incredible

crew! Check us out on twitter and at
Enjoy! 🧙♂️
"Raphael got the most attitude on the team!"
Animating a throwback to the TMNT days. A little ode to my first and one of my favorite projects I worked on.
Next up possibly Donatello, he's a fellow that's got the way with machines?!
10 years working in Animation.
10 professional projects - at 8 different studios - and countless hours of practice.
Today I'm starting my first day at Blizzard Entertainment on my dream project - Overwatch.
Please do not pinch me 😆👌
"Donatello is a fellow that's got a way with machines!"
Donnie was one of my favorite turtles to animate in action shots on the show, because his staff had so many nice attributes to it for smears and twirls. Such an awesome cartoony weapon rig!
Animation Breakdown!
I wanted to show some of the process behind the Vantage Intro.
This is just a few points in time to help illustrate the process - There was a lot of back and forth - and fantastic feedback from the anim team🙏- That helped get it to where it ended up!
I don't know that I have a favorite - but when I animated this shot 3 years ago I felt like I had really stepped up my personal work. Felt proud of this one at the time.
Concord is a great surprise so far! The characters are distinct and really fun to play.
Combat feels fast and kinetic, definitely worth checking out.
Stealing a weapon buff from an enemy here and blinking behind them to kill them, escaping with a flashy dodge. Felt great.
🍜Valkyrie Heirloom Animation🍜
I was able to make a very small contribution to Valk's new Heirloom, Suzaku!

2019 was the first year in a long time I spent the entire year at one place. Had a ton of fun doing a variety of player combat animations in

work for
@PlayDauntless
! First up is an arrival animation for the sword i did, this is almost a year old now and probably one of the first animations i did.
The first task I had when joining the animation team was a victory pose for Genji - Couldn't pass up the opportunity to go full ninja! Now finally live in the game 🥷
Juno is here!!
Hop in this weekend and give her a try - she's been an absolute labor of love over the last year. Can't wait for you guys to try her out.
Be sure to let us know what you think!

weekend!
I originally meant to do this months ago for
@jeandenishaas
's 100 frame animation contest - Definitely did not make it in time, but had to finish it regardless!
Vantage's first animation test
We knew right from the start that she would be into music and that she would dance, the question was 'how' would she dance
Ultimately we wanted her to be a bit more 'go with the flow' and less choreographed, but it was a fun test regardless
Hey!

I'm Kyle - an Animator working at Respawn on
@PlayApex
- I've previously worked on a mix of games, tv, and film!
Stoked to have been a part of so many awesome projects - And excited to share more in the future! 😎
Phoenix Labs has been a wild ride, Got to work on a huge variety of things from Player combat to Hunt passes to Behemoths. Proud to have been a part of it. A highlight was working with the crew on Torgadoro, My big monkey boi.
Animation by the talented folks at
@SteamrollerTeam
Mauga launch day!!
I only helped out with a few aspects of Mauga, but one of them was doing a lot of his facial animations for gameplay. The team put a lot of love into making him one of our most expressive heroes yet.
First Overwatch victory pose I did!😇
While victory poses are fairly simple animation wise - It is so awesome to finally have some work in the game.
Her tablet is doing some very serious work 👀
🧵Thread🧵on the previsualization process I did for the Vantage Execution
The Animation on this one was ultimately brought home by
@an_tan_
- He did a fantastic job and made Echo really sing.
Executions go through a lot of iteration - here's a bit about how it came to be!
I had fun animating this Victory pose for Ramattra - It started out much more toned down, but over time we felt the bigger motion sold the idea better.
The team crushed it on the Necromancer skin! And the audio and VFX really brought this one together🙏
Pharah has a new ability with season 9 called Jet Dash!
A fairly simple animation suite - previously Pharah's jump jet's always pushed her forward. In her update we took the opportunity to give her directional animations for both Jet Dash and Jump Jet.
And that's how we end up here at the final product!
Every banner is different and his it's own challenges - There were MANY versions in between all the ones I've shared here - but hopefully this gives a bit of insight into my own personal process!
See you in the outlands!
When I originally pitched this one I thought there was no way it would work 😂
Given that Vantage is our sniper - I wanted to make an emote giving a nod to players who make the incredible 360 shots that they do.
Our audio team is rad and got custom VO to help support it ❤️
Venture is here and they’re burrowing their way to the battlefield! ⛏️
Meet our newest Damage Hero and try them out for yourself in their limited-time trial Mar 28 through Mar 31 ✨
An advanced body mechanics assignment for school, took a while to finish. But I like the outcome of it! Definitely will light and readjust the BG textures in the future

After helping wrap up animation on Mauga, I moved on to SpaceRanger!
Even in the early stages she's a blast to play, can't wait to share more in the future! 🙏

Dive into these reveals and more of what's to come in 2024 TOMORROW at 1:30pm PT during the What's Next Panel!
There is some cool ass traversal in
#SuicideSquadGame
Reminds me of the blinking daggers in FFXV.
Also do yourself a favor and cull a bunch of the HUD. There is a lot of stuff on by default that you don’t need, and the game looks and feels so much better without the clutter.
First blocking pass.
I'm trying to find how the timing, and some interesting poses that go together with that timing. Here you can see I kept a lot of the initial posing and the beginning of the throw, but her pose on the throw didn't feel quite right - and neither did the end.
Welcome to the Pig Pen 🐷
I was able to help out on some of his new animations, and animated the Pig Pen trap!
Roadhog's rework is a ton of fun to play, and there are some good adjustments to his breather to help some of his more difficult matchups.
Spline!
With my blocking having enough information i'm free to go into spline without complete and utter terror. A lot goes into this pass but if I've set myself up right, it's a breeze! Added lot's of little secondary bits, extra accents on motions, and general polish.
One year ago today I started working on Overwatch.
It's been a crazy year - I'm honored to work alongside a group of such talented developers.
Illari was my first big contribution to the game, and I'm so proud of how she turned out.
On to the next one!
What an absolutely wild weekend. So grateful to be a part of Team4 - and to be able to contribute to something bigger than all of us. It was awesome to meet so many of our players.
Mauga is finally out there, and SpaceRanger is soon to come 🚀
This sent me through the wayback machine - I animated the latter half of these probably...10 years ago👀?
I remember putting a lot of effort into these ones. My favorite episode of the series.
What a blast of a project. 🐢🐢🐢🐢
Blocking 2.0
I've got the poses and rough timing down, now I start moving keys around to refine the timing further, and add more keys to increase the amount of information in the shot. This helps me not have things go wild when I hit spline. I've also splined the camera here.
I was working in TV when I saw the first trailer for Overwatch, I was blown away - I dreamed of being a part of it some day.
I'm thankful to be able to contribute to it now
To all the devs who have dared to see the world for what it could be, Thank you.
#OWDevAppreciation2023
Into engine and refine!
At this point I'm making super minute tweaks and constantly checking in engine. Looking at lighting, geo crashes, checking against other skins, looking for gimbals as the game runs at a higher framerate than maya. Lots of little things - Polish everything
Animating this for
@MemoriaProject
was a ton of fun!
Finding the right amount of old and the right amount of new is always a tough challenge. I kept this reference from the original always handy.
Refined blocking pass!
Here I take a stab at fixing the posing in the middle and end. I got her feeling more firmly planted on the ground during the toss, and closer up to the camera for the ending. An important thing with the Heirlooms is getting them up close in the frame!
One year
@Respawn
today on
@PlayApex
What a wild ride it's been so far - Inspired by this team everyday - I work with some of the most talented people in the business.
On to year 2 😎
The first part of the process is gathering reference. I knew I wanted to keyframe this banner as I wanted it to be more action oriented. I felt I could achieve that through my own iteration, rather than back and forth with talent trying to hone in an idea.
