Itโs great to be back in action today. An exciting 2024 ahead. Another incredibly competitive AFL2 in Dublin with bigger things down the road. Always important to start the year with a W.
@ParnellsGAA
Absolutely ridiculous. John Kiely wins 4 in a row but a popularity contest gives it to a manager who finished 8th in a competition they were joint favourites to win.

First training back. First session for many in months, maybe some players returning after little to no training in over a year. I know what we will do; a bronco. One of the most gruesome tests. That be sure to cut the 40 players down to 20.
Imagine the match wasnโt recorded. Top players GAA career, a game he enjoys playing, ruined. All because a man in the centre circle wanted to show his power. You get some great referees but when you get a bad egg, itโs the worst.
Former Dublin star Ciaran Archer has proposed 96-week ban dropped.
Former Under 20 Footballer of the Year Ciaran Archer has had a proposed 96-week suspension dropped thanks to video evidence after being reported for an alleged assault on a referee in a club match in early May.
Yamal starts for Spain. Youngest ever to play at the Euros at 16. Mad to think if he was playing GAA; he wouldnโt be able to play senior for another 2 years ๐
The 1200m run is an easy way to determine the fitness levels of a GAA player. Itโs one of many tests you can do, measure out 100m x 50m & complete the run as quickly as possible. Complete 4 laps of 300m. See the standards for senior & junior players.
The bronco test is quite common in GAA fitness testing for clubs & counties for aerobic endurance. The difference in the bronco & the 1200m test is the deceleration, change of direction & acceleration element. Fun fact; Beauden Barrett hold the record @ 4:12.
In 12 seasons, Lee Keegan scored 6-40 in championship football as a defender. Whatโs more impressive is that only Con O Callaghan & Petey Harte are the only players ever to have scored goals while marked by him. 3 goals in 12 seasons. Wow.
Unpopular opinion: I canโt stand when all the kids & teenagers run onto the pitch as soon as the final whistle goes. Give the players a chance to breathe.
So.. maybe Iโm wrong but clubs are traveling up & down the country this weekend to play matches & getting drenched in the rain. They then must travel the whole way home without a shower, in the soaking wet. Well.. thatโs one way to damage the immune system. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
At the start of training & 45 mins before a match, Iโll always start with a RAMP warmup. Some players sit down all day at a desk or drive long distances so starting without the ball is key imo.
I just could never understand the celebrating of test matches (friendlies?) in the build up to big tournaments. Thereโs a lot of Irish rugby I donโt agree with & the overwhelming confidence through fans, journalists & pundits over tonight v the greatest rugby union nation of all
Itโs great to see the Monday Club snaps start to come in around the country. Many more to follow in over the next 2 Mondays. The best days of your playing career.

Although I am not a nutritionist & can only advise, a couple of years back; these two weekly meal programs where designed for GAA players. Red = rest days. Orange = training days. Green = carb loading / game days.
How many of your team falls at 110m @ 20:20? I know itโs early days but come post league campaign. Maybe you donโt do isolation running? No right or wrong imo.
Posted this few years ago; havenโt used it in sometime. An oldie but a goodie. Can be tweaked so many times; total distance; intensity; ball or without ball etc. Have you ever used it?
Itโs that time again where Iโll do a 9 week block of work on grass. Not really for my own performance as I have little time to play GAA anymore but mainly for my own mental health & to help guide anyone wanting to follow along. Here is session 1.
Personally running has taken a back seat over the last few seasons as Iโve been very busy with personal & career life. Iโm starting slow with tempo work & aiming to be in a great place mentally and physically for February.
It has not stopped raining since last October. 2023/2024 has been Irelands second wettest year in history. A massive effect on my mental health, how I feel on a day to day, how I am when working etc. Is April another wet month? Probably.
That is one of the biggest wins for the wee small county of us. Dublin supporters mouthed and mouthed & it was lovely to stick it up them.

If we do move into a level 4, I canโt get my head around the gyms closing. The gym is a place where people improve their immune system through exercise. Physical activity helps flush bacteria out of the lungs & airways! Bet McDonalds wonโt close in level 4 tho?
Coaching 6 nights a week & becoming a father recently has knocked me right back; but Iโm making a promise. First running session done in a long time. 2 sets x 12 easy mins. Done โ๏ธ follow along. See yโall tomorrow
The Off Season Tips:
Stay off the grass for awhile. Try a new hobby. Drink pints & socialise with your friends. 3-4 days a week in the gym is sufficient. 9 weeks out from pre season, sprinkle in some aerobic work. Hypertrophy into Strength. Enjoy the gym.

Do you think Trent & Robbo is waking up this morning still half tight & texting each other saying โGet showered, meet you in an hour for the cure. We go againโ... Or is that just the day after a county final?
John Heslin had an opportunity to knock Tyrone out of the All Ireland this year & send Westmeath through but his last minute free kick tailed wide. This is one of the great 90 seconds on dealing with missed opportunities.
A couple of weeks ago, I asked coaches here; if they included a ball in their warmup or not. Have a listen to how Eugene Ivers changed Meath ladies warmup.
@meathladiesMLGF
Feel free to add some of your favourite ways to set up. Before anyone comes at me; I understand that losing 2 attackers or more is seen as an attacking principle. Thatโs due to defenders nowadays being so effective attacking & dragging attackers in a defensive shape.
I have been coaching GAA players in a group setting at both Mens & ladies club & inter county level for the last 3 years. At the age of 30; I have a lot to learn but Iโve quickly understood the importance of communication.
5 THINGS I HAVE LEARNED SO FAR ๐งต
Been seeing Ro do this week in week out since we where teens. The best kicker of a football in the past decade. A proud day to be a Scotstown man ๐๐
Time to get back in shape. To all dads out there. We got this. Run every 70 seconds. End line to opposite 65m & walk x 4, endline to opp 45m & walk x 4, endline to opp 21m line & walk x 4. 12 runs โ
Each week; I get messages asking to take training/conditioning sessions with clubs but; itโs impossible as I am full time focused on Parnells & FoxCab. So; I have created a 6 week, 2 session per week easy to follow PDF file including testing for all team coaches in the build up
My thoughts on Jerome stepping away from the weekend; It wonโt make too much difference to Ballybay at this stage, their work/prep has been done. Im sure Mark Doran has more than enough capabilities to help the team on his own this week. But; would Bbay want him back if they win?
Posted a full example of a 5 minute dynamic warmup I would throw my senior players into before anyone touches a ball. not included is banded activation.
In todays game, Spike woulda been best pulling/volleying on the ball with his foot rather than going down on it. Once you come up, itโs always an overcarry. Do we still coach to get down on the ball to be met with 2 players & blown for overcarry?
I have been working hard on a project over the past months & very excited to launch a 16 week YouTube series where I speak with all the big names in GAA. Who do you think is first?
I am excited to announce that the pathway to scholarships In the US as kickers/punters is becoming more of a possible reality. I will be helping to guide future kickers from all sporting backgrounds in the right direction through Leader Kicking. Tadhg has been doing incredible
In the utmost respect; itโs an absolute disgrace that you are now โpostponingโ this for a second time. Play the game in any other venue for the sake of both teams. Venue was fine last weekend but you wanted to keep it pretty for your senior final, now doing the same for the
The Go-Ahead Intermediate Football Final- due to be played on Wednesday evening at Parnell Park- has been postponed.
New fixture details will be made available following a meeting of the CCC this evening.
A refund has been processed for any tickets purchased.
Nobody sitting behind a mobile or on a bar stool tonight should be hard on Rory Beggan. Immense every single game, including today too. Nobody knows what itโs like at that split moment of An All Ireland Semi Final. He will learn as all great players do.

I completely give up on the rules of tackling in GAA. Not a clue. Forget coaching it; just double & triple up and be as physical as you can. Anything goes.
If you raise the heart rate, activate and mobilise while covering plyoโs and sprinting while using or not using the ball; then youโve a warmup covered. It can be as simple or as complicated as you like but the basic RAMP system covers all.
The Off Season: Ep5: Vikki Wall & Emma Duggan. The longest episode yet & an incredible insight into winning 2 x All Irelands, you donโt want to miss this one. Thursday 7.30pm ๐ฅ
Good morning coaches. Quick question; do you use any system for players to hold them accountable for completing individual workouts in the gym outside of collective pitch sessions? Rather than just posting into team WhatsApp group. Thank you.
I think this is brilliant game management, patience, composure, skill & disciplined. Taking the ball as far as you can down one wing; pull the breaks, back to the pivot & continue to do the same opposite wing. ๐
Ive got DMs in regards to taking a block of conditioning with a team. As much as I love being with different teams, just unable. Ive created this easy-to-follow conditioning block that I have had success with in the past. Not for individuals but teams.
Rory, Charlie & Mark where brilliant. They all showed they could kick from close & long distance & although they may have missed, they didnโt let it phase them & kicked the next one. I thought their kick offs was the icing on the cake. Exciting times now ahead.

The Off Season: Episode 7: Lee Keegan.
The nicest & most humble person I have ever met. We cover everything from winning a Club All Ireland to throwing a GPS to running a 40 yard dash ๐ฅ
Legend.
Sometimes itโs about the basics. Sleep 7-9 hours per night. Workout consistently 4 times per week. Eat your fruit and veg. Stay hydrated. Follow a 80/20 lifestyle. 80% wholefoods, 20% naughty. When you master to the basics, then we can talk the add ons.
I mean ๐คทโโ๏ธ surely itโs not that difficult to spot an over carry? He was quick enough to catch the Meath keeper out for an extra step or two. Dubs havenโt got out of first gear.
