Disgusting ๐คฌ Those laptops could have gone to schoolkids and university students who needed them for online learning. Plenty of charities, schools, libraries, homeless shelters etc could've taken a lot of the other stuff

That happened with UPS once. There was nobody at home when they tried to deliver something and they claimed they left it at the front desk - of a private house! I got home that night to find the package in a plant pot ๐๐
@httpsujx
I agree with this. April Fools used to be fun and about playing silly pranks (the types you buy in a joke shop). Now it seems to be an excuse for people to be cruel or post fake news online
@SkyNews
A sad day for students and academics. Universities are not recruitment centres for large corporations. They are meant to be about learning and broadening one's horizons. I work in a large Irish university which appreciates the arts and humanities (as they should)
It's
#LondonHistoryDay
! Here's some old pictures of the London Underground, the oldest metro system in the world. The tube itself is loaded with history! ๐
@thepipster64
@SkyNews
And we need the arts and humanities! A world with no arts means no music, no TV, no cinema, no theatre, no paintings, no photos, no fashion, no colourful advertising/packaging not even video games! Computers would be text based like in the 70s and 80s. It would be a silent world

What difference does it make? I watched Postman Pat when I was 3, it never bothered me that there wasn't a postwoman in the show. I think it's parents filling their kids' heads with this militant feminist nonsense and trying to bring adult ideas to a kids programme.
@ChopsyBristol
Nasty views. This is a step away from the dark days of kids with disabilities being locked away in institutions and forgotten about, instead of allowing them to be in the community as much as they can and to experience life
@MailOnline
It's high time fireworks were banned except for organised displays with silent fireworks. They're not worth the harm they cause to animals and people. Many ex soldiers with PTSD are also scared of them because they sound like gunshots
@Reddrosie
@emailmypussy
Kind of, it's basically another term for guardianship. They're usually used for people with intellectual disabilities or people deemed too 'incapacitated' to enter into contracts or manage their own affairs. In my country they used to be known as Wards of Court
@bmay
Smoking on the Underground is illegal and dangerous. A cigarette being dropped on escalator caused the Kings Cross fire of 1987 which killed 32 people. Smoking was banned on the tube after that. Did anyone report them to the BTP?
@michaelcareyyy
They built her up only to knock her down again. Yet some celebrities (Beyonce is one) are treated as the second coming and are praised no matter what they do.
@HollieStaffor12
@RebekahPierre92
I was still in school at 16 and still needed my parents' permission for trips etc. I wouldn't have been able to get a job to support myself as a lot of places don't always employ 16 yr olds. I don't know how anyone can expect a 16 yr old to support themselves
@Neasa_Gorrell
@News2mey
@SimonHarrisTD
It's ridiculous how third level students have been forgotten all through the pandemic. They go on about schools constantly yet college students are only mentioned when there's been a Covid outbreak linked to them. The attitude seems to be 'dump them online and be done with it'
@ActingTheGom
I think the school system has led to the shortage of tradespeople. There's a lot of snobbery about them and trades are often seen as 'lesser' careers. Instead schools tell kids that they must go to college or else. Now it's hard to find people to do those jobs
@LiaBetti
Terrible news. It really feels like universities are less about education and more about being recruitment centres for big corporations. We need the arts and humanities in this world. A world without them is a sad place indeed
15 years ago today, 52 people were killed in one of the worst terror attacks in the history of the London Underground. Whatever you're doing today, take a moment to remember them

The Ruby and Sapphire cartridges were very nice. They're especially nostalgic for me as I started secondary (high) school that year and those games remind me of that time (not my photo, found it online just to show what they looked like)

I'd have done something similar in those conditions. They could have offered him a meal and drink, it's rather mean-spirited not to
@BigIssue
Surely this is a breach of the right to privacy? Not everyone has a smartphone or other technology they can use. Some towns no longer have local newspapers or only one a week. This is punishing people rather than helping them
@sarahhollowell
As much as I dislike remote learning/online events, I think the option should be there for those who may need it. Remote schooling is handy for people who struggle in classrooms or those with long term illnesses who find it hard to attend school/college in person
@UberFacts
Unpaid internships. They expect people to live on fresh air for up to 6 months and have them do the same jobs as a paid employee would do. It's just cheap labour and an excuse not to pay people
@dyerAndie
She would have loved it and social media too. I could imagine Diana being very popular on Instagram and maybe having a Youtube channel. She might have done blogs on her charity work and on fashion. Sadly she never got to see the changes in tech after Windows 95
@MailOnline
I'll hang onto my modern phone but I can see the updated brick phone being handy for emergencies, schoolkids and as a second or spare phone to have in case one's smartphone breaks.
@jessiecath
Where are the lines complaining about the heat on the Central line in the summer or getting lost on the Northern line, ending up on the Edgware branch rather than High Barnet, or falling asleep and waking up in Morden or going around the Kennington loop?
@notjusturprince
@PopCrave
I don't get why adults who like Disney/HP/video games are dismissed as childish but adults who sit and binge watch Netflix or reality TV shows for hours on end are not
@MegStEsprit
I once wrote a 6 page letter to Santa in different coloured markers on Christmas Eve long after I had sent my original one. I left it out somewhere for him to find. Needless to say I didn't get any of the stuff I asked for on it
@LBC
What about people on UC who are already in work but need a top up as their wages are so low? And people on zero hours contracts who might have eg 30 hours one week and 5 the next? Employers need to offer living wages and stable contracts and stop exploiting people
@SeanDefoe
So if a family wanted to eat out together the ones who are vaccinated could sit inside and the ones who aren't would have to sit outside in the rain? ๐คจ what a stupid idea! Might as well keep restaurants closed and stick to takeaway
@daanegro
Maybe I'm too old (early 30s) but I don't get the hype over Olivia Rodrigo. I listened to SOUR and it reminded me of Billie Eilish or Avril Lavigne with different music. People in real life thought I was odd for not liking her. Why is she so popular?
@mywestldn
Totally. It seems you have to have a Masters or even a PhD for most jobs these days. What happened to people starting at a low level and then getting training and working their way up?
@Independent_ie
I was exempt from Irish as I went to primary in London. I don't hate the language but why can't it be taught the way French, German or Spanish are taught? Scrap the literature and focus purely on the language side
@cherrygrrI
In the late 90s/early 2000s they did the same with Britney Spears. Some of her early photoshoots (like the Rolling Stone one from 1999) are questionable ๐ฌ and she was seen as a sex object by the media

Reminds me of 'Being British is about going to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, then travelling home in a German or Italian car, picking up a Chinese or Indian takeaway on the way, to sit at home on Swedish furniture watching American shows on a Japanese TV'

@rtenews
But people will be vaccinated! ๐ at this stage it's ๐ฅ numbers that matter more than cases ๐ท where do they get their models? A Lego box?
@ThatEricAlper
A lot of the British classics - One Foot In The Grave, Keeping Up Appearances, Fawlty Towers, Only Fools and Horses, Father Ted, Yes Minister, live action Mr Bean and many more. I could never take to American sitcoms, I don't know why

This. Calling it off on the day of the funeral is one thing but not the whole event. They could have requested attendees wear black or subdued colours and hold a minute's silence before every speech
@PoliticsForAlI

This is outrageous. If everything else can open then it's safe for universities to have in person lectures. The government allowed 60,000 into Wembley and thousands to attend Wimbledon but won't let students have in person lectures?! Make it make sense ๐พ
@shog_ki
I don't like the noise of pubs and watching people get drunk. It'll be awful and I wouldn't be too surprised if there are Covid outbreaks coming from pubs when they do open. If they're desperate to open pubs then the staff working in them should be vaccinated
@sleahy100
@SimonHarrisTD
@UL
I agree. If schools can reopen then surely some on campus classes could go ahead? I know packed lecture halls of 400 won't happen til everyone's vaccinated but small group tutorials and smaller lectures (like postgrad or language classes) could go ahead on campus
@JGilks
@theJeremyVine
C&A are everywhere in mainland Europe. Cite Europe in Calais has one and so does every larger German town. I would say Woolworths is more like B&M/Poundland and there's no way Blockbuster can be compared to Netflix
@mmtowns
Saw this last night and ended up crying myself to sleep. How can people think these sad little scraps are enough to feed a child for the week? I'd feed more food to a dog! Why does the world have to be so cruel?
