Make no mistake, although this has been the hardest term of all time, it has been the most important. School staff have brought back normality for millions of children who’d feared they may never return to school as before. But we all made it happen. Congratulations to everyone!

What a way to start my day today: Sheila, the wife of the late, great Sir John Rowling, sent me a letter, along with two yellow ties which had belonged to the great man himself! Such an incredibly moving gesture; I wore one of them all day, with pride.

As a school we’ve decided not to call all staff in for day 1. We’ll have a skeleton staff rota. Staff with school aged children won’t be on the rota if it’d mean sending their own children to another school. Our way of expressing how important it is to keep your children at home.

Today, we can announce that despite a whopping PAN of 255, @BrightonHillSch is officially over-subscribed for the first time in many years. Just 83 students left us last year, which represents a 200% increase in students numbers. Incredible effort from the #YellowArmy team!

Sir John urged me to pursue headship from the moment we met in 2012. I was so humbled that he and wife Sheila came to visit me at @BrightonHillSch and I loved showing him around my new home. He always said “You can learn a lot about a school by the amount of laughter you hear.”
