It was great to join the team in
#MidBeds
this weekend, ahead of polling day on Thursday! Any
@LibDems
that haven't yet been - you've still got a chance to help
@EmmaMidBeds
make a HUGE gain from the Tories!
Very happy to announce that I'll be running as the
#LibDems
candidate for Slough at the upcoming General Election!
#Slough
has been let down time and time again by the Labour and Conservative politics of the past.
I'm proud to be offering
#AFreshVoice
calling for a fair deal.
Proud is an understatement. For a borough they said would never elect Lib Dems just a few years ago, we've now got 6 councillors in some of the truest blue areas of Surrey!
We are pleased to welcome 3 new
@LibDems
councillors to
#RunnymedeBoroughCouncil
, taking our group to 6 in total!
Join us in congratulating our new councillors:
Cllr Kevin Lee for Longcross, Lyne & Chertsey South
Cllr Karin Rowsell for Virginia Water
Cllr Ken Graham for New Haw
As the dust begins to settle, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone that voted Lib Dem in Slough! It was a tough fight with 11 candidates, but we should be proud of what we achieved!
What a fantastic
#LibDem
night across the board!
Fantastic to get out on the doorsteps this weekend in Spelthorne to hear from residents about local issues!
@LibDems
working hard all year round, come ☔ or ☀️
As an avid rower for the best part of the last 15 years, the decline of our rivers and waterways is a huge concern. The increasing practice of dumping sewage has a detrimental impact on people being able to enjoy these spaces, and the biodiversity that makes up the ecosystem.
Things just got VERY real!
Excited to get stuck in and talking to residents of
#Slough
ahead of 4 July to outline why the
@LibDems
are the best choice to elect an MP that listens and stands up for the issues people care about.
Very happy to announce that I'll be running as the

So pleased to see Runnymede Council go into No Overall Control today, with
@RunnymedeLibDem
overturning 20 years of Conservative rule in New Haw 🔶 This is a fantastic result and sign of exciting times ahead!
(And yes my Dad got re-elected!!)
Votes will be cast on the 4 July to elect the next MP for
#Slough
. While this is a national election, who we elect will have implications on an international scale. The
@LibDems
are the only party that has been campaigning for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza since Oct 2023. 1/2
If you do ONE THING today, get out and VOTE!
This election is going to be one for the history books, so let's make sure everyone's vote is counted.
Polls are open until 10pm and you need photo ID to vote.
For a
#FairDeal
vote
#LiberalDemocrats
today!
Great to get out and do some eve of poll leafleting for
@monicabeharding
tonight! I've known Monica for a few years now and there's nobody I can think of to better represent Esher & Walton. She only needs a 2% swing from the to get the Tories out, so you know who to vote for!!
What a great time
@LibDems
conference! From fringes to interesting debates, bumping into friends, colleagues and big political names, it's been a very busy few days. Clocking up over 67k steps and very little sleep, I'm exhausted, but more inspired than ever for my own campaign!
If you missed the
#Slough
Parliamentary Hustings earlier this week, listen to my opening statement about why I am standing for the
@LibDems
in Slough!
Let's fix:
✅Broken politics
✅NHS
✅Cost of living & housing crises
✅Environment
✅International crises
Vote
#LibDem
Thanks to everyone who stopped to speak to me &
@SloughLibDems
outside JMIC Mosque yesterday.
Voters here tell me that international issues will decide who they back. I'm proud that
#LibDems
are fighting for an immediate ceasefire, recognition of Palestine & a 2 state solution.
1 WEEK until you can vote for
#Slough
's next MP.
The
@LibDems
have policies to address years of neglect by both the Conservative govt and Labour council:
✅ Fix the NHS crisis
✅ Protect our local environment
✅ Tackle the cost of living & housing crises
First hustings is going well... For the avoidance of doubt for anyone at tonight's
@Asianstarradio
hustings, I am representing the 🔶
@LibDems
in
#Slough
. We've got a comprehensive set of policies and aren't just standing on one singular issue like most independents do.
Having volunteered at my local food bank during lockdown, I've seen too many families having to rely on donations to feed their children.
The
@LibDems
have the most ambitious plan for free school meals of any party, saving parents money and transforming the future of millions.
In case you missed it, the
@LibDems
have one of the strongest political positions on the situation in Gaza and have consistently since the 7th October attack. 1/2
The truest Lib Dem.
@EdwardJDavey
shows us all what it means to be a Liberal and sets a very high standard for politicians in this country.
I'd encourage everyone to watch our latest party broadcast!
ICYMI on
@BBCBerkshire
this morning, listen to me challenge Labour on their attitude towards developers and the lack of support for our local communities.
#LibDems
have brought in a policy to ensure more money gets invested into our local area when new developments take place.
In Slough, we welcome the
@LibDems
policy to urgently close the £4bn funding gap in local government, agreed at conference.
While I didn't get a chance to speak on the motion at conference, you can read what I would have said here 👇
Great to get out campaigning this weekend for
@RunnymedeLibDem
Lots of fantastic activity going on across Surrey to get the Tories out and deliver hard working councillors for our residents!
Of course family time until 4th May will be consumed by elections 🔶
@Surreycclibdems
So incredibly proud of
@RunnymedeLibDem
and especially my dad,
@DonJWhyte
as one of the new co-leaders of the council, for this historic achievement, getting the Conservatives out of control of Runnymede! A very interesting council meeting this evening!
And there it is. Runnymede the birthplace of democracy will have four co-council leaders - from four different parties
Residents
Green
Labour
Lib Dems
Leaving the largest single party - Conservatives - sitting on the sideline
#LDReporter
Great to get back out on the campaign trail for
@EllzSummary
our
@LibDems
candidate in Runnymede and Weybridge! The sun even made an appearance at the prospect of getting the Tories out across Surrey 🌞
Fantastic weekend at
@LibDems
spring Conference in York! Great speeches from all our MPs, especially
@LaylaMoran
on our party's continued calls for a ceasefire in the Middle East. Also talked about ongoing concerns of a lack of voter engagement and the need for PR in the UK!
Another great
#Slough
Parliamentary Hustings last night supported by the wonderful
@SloughLibDems
and
@windsorlibdems
teams at
@StBernardsCGS
! Thank you to everyone who came and asked questions, I hope our answers help make up your minds to vote
#LibDem
on 4th July 🔶
Who we elect in
#Slough
next week will have implications on an international scale. We stand on the side of international law and believe the UK needs to stand up against human rights atrocities across the world.

ICYMI: We launched our manifesto yesterday!
We are proud to be campaigning for a Fair Deal for everyone in Slough. At the core of our plan is fixing our broken health and social care services.

Great to see
@SloughLibDems
Jo Hanney's letter in the
#Slough
Express, discussing the financial difficulties Slough faces and who is to blame. The
@LibDems
have a clear policy to support local authorities and give them the funding they need to deliver the services we deserve.
It was great to attend the
@AikSaath
and
@SY_Parliament
hustings this evening and see so many young people engaging with politics. As the only young candidate in Slough, I hope that I can offer a fresh voice to speak up for everyone and work for a sustainable future.
#VoteLibDem
In
#Slough
, we regularly hear from residents who struggle to access GP appointments. That's why we're campaigning for the
@LibDems
5yr plan to give people the right to see a GP within a week. Join our campaign here 👇
There may not be council elections in
#Slough
this year, but there is an election for the Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner. We recently hosted
@timbearder
in Slough to take a look at the key issues affecting our area. Read about his campaign 👇
Excited to share that after 7 long months of unemployment and applications, I will be starting my new role on Monday! I am joining Watford Borough Council as the Political Assistant to the Lib Dem Elected Mayor! 1/2
It's just 2 days until the Police and Crime Commissioner elections in the Thames Valley! Don't forget you need photo ID to vote at the polling station and your candidate to vote for is
#LiberalDemocrats
@timbearder
!
Those that know me know I'm an avid rower in my spare time. That's why I'm so passionate about the

Great to join
@CentenaryAction
,
@5050Parliament
and other organisations yesterday to celebrate the 95th anniversary of women's enfranchisement. With just 5 yrs until the centenary, ensuring we have equal representation in Parliament is a responsibility of everyone 💜💚
Great to attend the first joint
@LibDemsinComms
and
@WomenInPA
event this morning in Parliament. Huge thanks to
@cajardineMP
for providing really thoughtful commentary on the current state of affairs in Westminster and beyond!
Ahead of Thursday's election, I was interviewed by
@sloughobserver
! This is a pivotal time in politics and everyone's vote will count. For an insight into our policies, priorities and me as a person, read the interview in full 👇
I'm particularly proud to be announcing my candidacy on
#InternationalWomensDay
.
We need more women in parliament, and so we need more women to run for parliament.
Here's my argument in full, published today on
@rudpedersenuk
The Conservatives have held the position of the Thames Valley Police Commissioner since it was created more than a decade ago. Tomorrow you have a rare opportunity to change that. Please use your vote wisely…
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East will be a deciding factor for many voters in the upcoming general election. I am proud the
#LibDems
have long called for a ceasefire to enable constructive conversations to reach a two-state solution. 1/3
Not sure why anyone would want to watch Kwasi Kwarteng on I'm a celebrity, but if he does go it's just further evidence he's taking the people of Spelthorne for granted!
Spelthorne deserves an MP who will be present and available in the constituency!
Great to be invited to
@EdwardJDavey
Autumn Leader's speech earlier today!
After the chaos that has been our government over the last few months, it's refreshing to hear sensible policies and see such a fantastic team of
@LibDems
MPs standing up for local people!
Someone PLEASE tell me why he's still there! He's beyond a waste of space and just propping up the Tories! Someone needs to remind him which side he's on, because it definitely isn't the side of the Labour members.
#joinjo
#bollockstoCorbyn
Great to catch up with
@timbearder
ahead of the Police and Crime Commissioner elections taking place on 2nd May to discuss the issues affecting residents in Slough. Most notable is the lack of police on the streets. Read more about our discussion here👇
I've been to Slough to see the brilliant
@chelseakwhyte
and her the team. They are connected with their community and not seeing the Conservative's hyperbole translated to action on the ground...👀👮👀
While the Prime Minister is only now deeming the situation "intolerable" after British nationals have been killed, our internationalism means we call out all atrocities not just those that affect our own.
Great to be at the
@LibDemsinComms
event this evening with
@FT
's
@GeorgeWParker
. Some great insights and analysis about the current and upcoming political landscape in the UK!
Great news for accessibility to train services in the UK! A huge congrats to the well run campaigns that got this important result!
There's still a long way to go towards making train travel more affordable and transparent, but public opinion is clear!
Slough Labour MP
@TanDhesi
says 'the good people of Slough and the wider British public are ready for change' Lib Dem
@chelseakwhyte
says 'all to play for.' Conservatives not yet available for comment
Completely outraged to hear that a shocking 3,025 burglaries went unsolved across Surrey last year. Just further evidence that cuts to public services under Conservative rule have put people in danger.
Just cast my vote in the LibDem leadership election for
@joswinson
She seems to have so much to give and really engages with young people which is something very much needed in the current political climate.
#LibDemSurge
#JoinJo
Great to attend the
@WomenInPA
event last night with my
@rudpedersenuk
colleagues. It was a lovely chance to meet lots of fantastic women from the industry and hear from Frances Scott of
@5050Parliament
!
There is just ONE WEEK left to register to vote in this year's General Election!
Make sure your voice can be heard by registering by 11:59pm on 18 June 2024.
Just waited 1.5hrs
@Twickenhamstad
walk in vaccine centre. Turned away because they ran out of vaccines which means they've done 15000 today!
Disappointed personally but proud so many young people turned out! You can't say we don't want the vaccine - just give us a chance!
So disappointing to read that
@thameswater
is planning to increase costs when I have been waiting 4 weeks for them to fix a blocked drain that means I can't use my kitchen! They need to take responsibility and accept their duty of care to the public now.
The sad thing is, even with 3 yrs of quality experience, I can't get a job. At that awkward stage where I have too much experience for internships but not enough for anything else so have to apply for everything under the sun. I just can't catch a break.
Today I went to protest outside the British Embassy with my LibDem colleagues in Brussels. We were protesting about the incompetent fool that is our Prime Minister and his ridiculous decision to shut down parliament at what is the most pivotal moment in British politics. 1/3
I'm proud the
@LibDems
have been leading the campaign to
#StopSewageDumping
and hold water companies accountable for the decline. My
#Slough
colleague
@OKelly48105
has been spearheading this locally and launched a petition a few weeks ago.
Sign here:
BBC breakfast discussing growth in the economy in October - putting the September contraction down to the death of the Queen 🤦♀️ Have they forgotten the Truss-Kwarteng fiasco... Or are we just going to pretend that didn't happen?
Today is the last day you can register to vote in the Police and Crime Commissioner elections on 2nd May. In Slough,
@timbearder
is standing to be the next PCC and hold the Conservatives to account for the mess they have left our police service in.
3 years since we left the EU and the UK economy is not doing as well as other developed countries. Coincidence?
{Picture: midnight on the steps of the European Parliament 31.01.2020}
Watching the Police and Crime Commissioner election count of doubtful votes this morning makes me even more determined to get elections and voting on the curriculum in schools.
So frustrating to see spoiled ballots because the PR voting system was 'confusing' 😡
Our leader,
@EdwardJDavey
, has publicly called for "a real ceasefire that sets us on the path, finally, to a lasting peace: a two-state solution, starting with the UK immediately recognising an independent Palestinian state.”

BREAKING NEWS
Watford Council just unanimously agreed to establish a leave policy for councillors 🥳
A personal win for me as it's the first report I have officially taken to Council, but more importantly it's a win for equality and opportunity in local government 🎉
I had the pleasure of attending a thank you event for covid volunteers at Runnymede Council this evening for helping at the foodbank during the pandemic.
So emotional to think back about the thousands of people we supported and the amazing community spirit shown by so many ❤️
Too often, planning regulations are ignored and developers ask forgiveness instead of permission. This is just one example of many. It is unacceptable and must change. Help us get some justice for these local families and sign their petition👇2/2
I met with residents in Cippenham to hear about a 33m telecommunications mast which has been erected behind their houses. The mast is less than 5 metres away from the closest houses and was installed without planning permission or communications to the local residents. 1/2
When work and passions collide 🌍
I had a great time at the
@Envision_Racing
Race Against Climate Change event this morning. Packed full of really engaging speakers, from a range of industries, everyone agreed we all have a role to play in 'putting the brakes on climate change'!
Can we have some more positive coverage of the
#Olympics
#rowing
please? All of the BBC coverage starts with the losses as opposed to the fact that we just won our first ever medal in the men's quad sculls. Well done
#TeamGB
what a fantastic performance!
@Michael_Heaver
@TiceRichard
What a load of bollocks. Amazing how little they know about the institution they now work in. Of course there are going to be times when the chamber is empty because other important meetings take place e.g. group meetings to discuss their positions before voting in plenary
Ahead of tomorrow's local elections in England read about why the elections are not just important in the political calendar, but how they also present new opportunities for businesses to engage with an additional level of political stakeholders.
@SUTONGIROTCIP
@Chiclanagirl
Yes definitely old enough to be on the new fees system for university, and have to say I would rather be on this system than the old one given I have 30 years to pay it back with semi-favourable terms and then it's wiped - rather than it hanging over my head for eternity!
Super Saturday 2012 = Team GB doing insanely well at the London Olympics
Super Saturday 2019 = the government trying to remove us out of the EU, putting at risk the union of the UK
If you're going to make voter ID compulsory, then you have to make official ID cards or passports free of charge. There is no other way to ensure you don't disenfranchise a large section of the population
My thoughts on Voter ID:
Having ID checks makes LOTS of sense in a place where there's high rates of voter fraud. However, the UK isn't one of those places.
Voter ID will lower turnout disproportionately among certain demographics - that shouldn't be a deriable goal for anyone.
