I'm (finally) going to be a police constable! I have a conditional offer from @LancsPolice (subject to vetting and medical) with a start date in January. Unfortunately, I would have to stop being a police chaplain, but I will continue supporting the well-being of my colleagues.

Many police officers wouldn't be able to do the job of a PCSO simply because the role of a PCSO requires a different specialist skillset to that numerous police officers don't have.

If a chaplain talks about religion or God, its because you want them to. The role is about serving God by serving people, not about getting people to join God's squad.

Frequently hear "religion has no place in policing" often from people who do not understand the purpose of chaplainy. Chaplaincy isn't promoting religion in public office but being someone motivated by one's own faith to offer well-being support to people of all faiths and none.

Do chaplains proselytise ie try to convert people to their belief? Chaplaincy is primarily a pastoral role, to provide wellbeing and welfare support to people of all faiths and none. Proselytism has no place in chaplaincy. Chaplains are servants, not judges.

Being part of the police family at the moment is very much like being a Muslim when a terrorist attack happens. For the crimes of others, regardless of how much you condemn the actions of a few, you become guilty due to a loose association; tarnished and labelled as the same.
