We’ve had many memorable moments in @GSOCUAW bargaining sessions: the time NYU showed up over an hour late. The time NYU’s spokesperson fell asleep during worker testimonials. But the best was when someone loudly ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich while unmuted on Zoom.

*Thank you* for speaking out, Jay. The real violence isn’t that 1 in 10 NYC public school students is homeless, or that 100 New York State tenants are evicted every day. It’s some graffiti you saw on your way to a meeting with Landlords for Responsible Debt Peonage or whatever

Recently spotted in Brooklyn. Enough. Elected officials who aren’t working to develop actual solutions to New York’s housing issues tacitly condone this violence by standing with DSA and others who promote it. It’s time to call them out.

The email tonight from NYU President Linda Mills, straight from Columbia's playbook. The same spurious pretexts ("safety" concerns, unsubstantiated "antisemitic incidents," and my favorite, "intimidating chants") to justify mass arrests of students, faculty, and alumni.

I’ll spare you the photos of my cut and bruised face, but: at last night’s #FTP march in Harlem I was seized, slammed to ground, and punched repeatedly by 4–5 @NYPDnews officers. I saw other protesters similarly assaulted by cops.

If you’re bothered by a DSA convention prayer that didn’t even happen, try sitting through a 10-minute “prayer” on the last day of the UAW convention by a pastor admonishing reformers to “stop badmouthing this union” and claiming that the floor debates had made him cry…

Weak stuff in a paid email from 2110 United, the Administration Caucus slate for Local 2110 Exec Board. Eight members of GSOC’s 2020 BC did choose not to continue in 2021. 2110 United apparently thinks it’s a problem that grad students have academic obligations…

NYU offers a $1 raise, then calls GSOC "unreasonable" for turning it down. NYU declines to bargain over the weekend before a Monday strike deadline, then accuses us of "stonewalling." NYU refuses to cover 100% of health premiums, then trumpets its "generosity." #StrikeOnNYU

This email from NYU President Andrew Hamilton shows the NYU administration’s refusal to bargain in good faith with @GSOCUAW . We in AAUP’s NYU chapter stand in solidarity with our graduate students as they prepare to strike tomorrow

Truly enjoying everyone’s reminiscences of the type of stove they grew up with…just the kind of wholesome Twitter discourse I’ve long missed.

Hasn’t been acknowledged widely enough that this mayoral race is a contest between two of the weirdest people in this city.

In the final week of New York City's mayoral campaign, Curtis Sliwa is courting Republicans, Democrats and animal lovers. Sliwa, who has 16 cats living inside his 320-square-foot studio apartment, is making animal welfare a central part of his campaign.

PR problem, rather than a profound political challenge: there is simply no way to build the world we want and need without the full participation of people of all racial, gender, and national identities. Although I think we have to let go of any fantasies that DSA can become

A lot of bad ideas here. No right to strike, picket, boycott; granting the state labor commissioner power to decide which union(s) represent app workers, with no access to NLRB elections; and, weirdest of all, a 10¢ surcharge on rides and deliveries in lieu of union dues.

Further illuminated and extended by @ggemmmaaa in @DissentMag : “To insist that a movement remake itself in one’s image…especially as one admits one is wary of not only its slogans but its substantive aims, is not a plea for solidarity, it is a demand for obedience.”

Was a little puzzled by the incredulity at Biden’s “malarkey” act, then remembered not everyone grew up in a family of older white Southerners who express displeasure using words like “fiddlesticks” and “raffersnats”

In many ways I’m hopeful for the future of statewide fights for worker and tenants’ rights, criminal justice reform, and environmental justice, but this craven hypocrite remains the most powerful enemy of real progress in NY
