My solemn advice to builders: advise your clients to always consider pointing (especially for load-bearing walls) when the mortar is still fresh. Why? To avoid mismatch of setting times that would otherwise lead to portions of the structure exhibiting variations in strengths.

Just in case you didn’t know, bamboo poles are fast replacing our dear eucalyptus round poles as shoring props. These poles are strong, easily resistant to adverse weather conditions and pest attack. They’re also easy to install and adjust. Their downside is that they’re rare.

In proper storm water collection system, you will see the PVC pipe enclosed in thick mortar (at the base just before drainage). Since hydraulic pressure (from storm water) increases with depth, it will be maximum at the base. This can end up un-anchoring the pipe out of place.
