NEWS: The state has dismissed its appeal to the 4th Circuit in Seaman v. Virginia, which means the district court's preliminary injunction allowing children with disabilities to request peer masking from their schools under the ADA and Section 504 remains in force. Great news!

At a minimum, we need systemic reform to the method of selecting @wlunews Trustees. Today's 22-6 decision (without disclosing how anyone voted!) was made by a Board and President that is 89% white. The Board has *never* had a woman of color serve as a Trustee.

I've submitted a draft congressional redistricting plan ( #389 ) to @CommissionVa . It's compact, VRA-compliant, and has a partisan efficiency gap (a measure of partisan fairness) of less than 1%. In short, it's much better than the current draft (C1) prepared by the Commission.

This is spot-on. Officials in GOP-led states like FL, MO, and WV that are leaving ERIC care more about pandering to the most extreme elements of their party than ensuring voting rolls are accurate. It belies their purported concerns about (nonexistent) widespread voter fraud.

States that leave ERIC will see more dead voters and voters who have moved away on their lists, and reduce their ability to detect double-voting. As a result, they will likely see longer voting lines, more undeliverable mail, and take longer to count ballots. /5

@DrLeanaWen And your reasoning is circular to boot. Compliance w/public health intervention is based in part on elite opinion. When folks like you & @CDCgov back away from universal indoor masking - despite its effectiveness - of course it's going to have an impact on popular acceptance.

This is emblematic of how deeply flawed the process (and substance) has been for SB 739, the mask-optional bill. Rushed through both chambers in under a week, with no testimony or input from public health experts and no exceptions for changing conditions.
