Our red panda cubs have names! Meet ‘Sundari’ & ‘Ravi’. Nepali names were selected for the cubs as Nepali is the official language of Nepal – one of the primary countries where red pandas live in the wild. In Nepali, Sundari means “beautiful” and Ravi means “sun”. #OurZooYYC

Many small cats have vertical slit pupils to optimize depth perception, perfect for ambush predators. Round pupils in large cats that chase their prey give binocular vision. Pallas’s cats are ambush predators, so no one is quite sure why they have round pupils! 👀 #YourZooYYC

Guess who? It's our littlest troop member, 'Okabe'! 🦍 At nearly 3 months old, Okabe isn't mobile on his own just yet but we have seen him sitting and rocking. Though he's still a bit wobbly, it won't be long until he's scooting around with his half-sister, 'Eyare'! 🥰

Pallas's cats sure do have a distinctive look! Native to Central Asia, these fluffy felines are specialized for cold, rocky environments. Short ears help them hide, while thick fur (the densest of any cat) keeps them warm in freezing steppe winters! #YourZooYYC #Caturday

We have some dazzling news! 🦓 On September 15, our Hartmann’s Mountain zebra ‘Genna’ gave birth to her first foal! 💕 While it’s still early days, the foal is looking healthy and has been seen nursing, resting & following mom. Welcome to the zoo family little one! #YourZooYYC

Happy birthday to us! 🎉🎈 On this day in 1929 the Calgary Zoological Society was formed &, we must admit, we look pretty good for 90! Last year was the best in the zoo's history, with a new attendance record & 200 animals released. We hope that this year is just as incredible!

Our Pallas’s cat 'Olaf' is turning 9 today! 🐾 You may be surprised at how small a Pallas’s cat is – they are about the size of your average housecat! 🐈 Even with their small size, Pallas’s cats are a little smaller than they look because of their dense coats. #YourZooYYC
