BREAKING: The New Jersey Senate has approved a bill that would place marijuana legalization on the 2020 ballot by a 24-16 vote. Thatโs the magic number. If the Assembly follows suit today, itโll be official.
Gannett just announced they are:
โข offering buyouts
โข killing the 401(k) match
โขย mandating a 5-day furlough during the holidays
โข at mgmt. discretion, instituting a 30-32 hrs/week schedule -- a 15% pay cut.

I just got a call confirming that Iโm positive for coronavirus.
Thatโs some messed up timing. (It wasnโt a surprise, Iโve known since before I got tested)
BREAKING: New Jersey marijuana legalization is officially a 2020 ballot issue. If voters approve, NJ would be the 12th state (as of now) to legalize weed. Here we go, folks.
BREAKING: New Jersey just became the 13th state to legalize marijuana.

signed a three-bill package into law legalizing weed for adults 21+. It comes 110 days after 2/3 of NJ voters supported legal weed on the ballot.

I am paid $47,500 per year to cover six towns (ranked, of course, in order of importance) and cannabis issues across the state of New Jersey.
That qualifies for low-income housing in my county.

Worst damage Iโve seen so far from what is, as of now, a severe thunderstorm but, within a few hours, might be officially designated a tornado. Jackson, NJ.
Our newsroom has 4 rank-and-file jobs (~13% staff) open, some for nearly 2 years. Meanwhile, Gannett raised our metric "goals," and expects us to meet them with less people.
If you believe they're actually going to hire journalists with AP savings, I've got a bridge to sell you.
Roberts: โWe create more journalism every day than the AP. This shift will give us the opportunity to redeploy more dollars toward our teams and build capacity where we might have gaps.โ
Must be seen in context of continual cuts in Gannett newsrooms by investment fund ownership
Here are some statements made at tonight's Jackson NJ council meeting, where council members are approving new regulations for schools/dormitories/eruvim/houses of worship/mikvahs as part of settlements with the DOJ, NJAG and Agudath Israel.

Hi, Mike Reed. First time/long time.
If
@Gannett
cares about local news, why spend millions on stock buybacks, C-suite bonuses and union-busting lawyers?
And why cut journalists?
And why would anyone wanna work here for poverty wages?
Iโll hang up and listen.
#AnswerUsMike
Over a third of my newsroom earns a wage so low they qualify for low-income housing. We're down 7 reporters (~26% of the reporting staff) in 2 years due to attrition alone. Gannett's most recent economic proposal at the bargaining table is a pay cut.

Gโmorning. Today, the NJ Legislature will try to pass a marijuana โclean-upโ bill basically decriminalizing underage marijuana/alcohol use.
If this happens, all three marijuana bills should quickly be signed into law by Gov. Murphy. Marijuana will finally be legal in New Jersey.
Grant Wahl is almost as important to the growth of soccer in the United States as Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan and Christian Pulisic. His dedication to telling stories with passion and curiosity is an inspiration to so many journalists, not just sportswriters.

New Jersey is the world โ a world in which Central Jersey exists, in which we eat a sandwich with โpork roll,โ and in which The Boss is a free man.
If the NJ marijuana bill eventually passes, it could become the national model for other states to follow. It's not just the first state to legalize and set up the cannabis industry, but it's the first one to put a focus on social justice provisions.
Love to work for a company that not only tells its employees to muzzle their opinions but also encourages their colleagues to rat them out to their bosses.

I wonder how much of Turner/Rogers was just bad timing. They came in right at/before the time that Camden Yards launched the whole walkable/neighborhood/more-than-just-a-stadium feel, but didn't follow that style. Citi was built with that in mind, at least.
