They really tried to make me cry on stage in front of all my friends!!!!!!!! ๐ญ
I am beyond grateful for such an amazing team, thank you so much everyone. Never forget, Button loves you!! ๐ฅน๐
I keep seeing the phrase "first time con" used frequently this weekend to justify lack of professionalism, communication, accountability, & reliability. Being a first time con is not an excuse for overall incompetence. The attendees, vendors, guests, & staff deserve better.
The mistakes made and problems caused by this con are doing damage; financially, emotionally, and reputationally.
People are being confused, hurt, disappointed all while continuing to be reassured "well, it's a first-year con."
Further, when those experienced members of con leadership reach out to offer feedback and advice for the good of the community and your event, TAKE IT. These people care deeply about the community and don't want to watch a mismanaged con catch fire.
My heart breaks for all who were taken advantage of through this experience.
We all had varying expectations of the con to say the least, but those who worried were right to do so. It's hard to put trust in people who don't trust in the advice of the experienced ppl around them.
If you don't know how to run an event, it's reckless to attempt. If you can't do the research or utilize resources & experienced persons in the community when you don't know what you're doing, then you're doing the community an injustice by putting on a poorly-managed event.
I had so much fun bartending the
@EverfreeNW
room party at
@BABSCon
this weekend. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and took the time to support our convention.
Hope to see all your lovely faces in August ๐๐
You might say "It could be worse;" but that is not really a statement worth celebrating.
There were some key heros to commend this weekend; those who helped hold it together and kept it from getting worse. Shout out to those individuals, they deserve much gratitude!!
Being a first-year con is no excuse for this level of incompetence, disrespect, and disregard for the well-being of the community and it's members. Running a con is a huge task and responsibility, and should be taken seriously. Not everyone is equipped for the job.
This dynamic duo is excited to be working together to bring you all an extra special

I wasn't planning to post this, but seeing as the con feedback panel was cancelled. Here are a few feedback points I hope to see get addressed should they actually have a "next year" as I keep hearing about:
1. Sign contracts with all guests, musicians and vendors. Anything promised should be written and agreed to by both parties.
2. CGs etc should not be asked to do things they didn't agree to ahead of time. If you expect them at an event, ask them in advance.
9. Registration needs to check IDs when handing out badges.
10. Attendees should be allowed to chose what is displayed on their badge, many aren't comfortable showing their legal name.
11. Budget. If you don't know how, find someone who does. Don't waste $ on nonessentials.
16. Publish event descriptions and keep record of who is responsible for what panels.
17. Don't misconstrue feedback as cruelty.
18. If you don't know how to handle something, ask for/accept help. There are so many resources in the community, find them and learn from them.
7. Staff Communication is integral. Every staffer should know their role & information related to it. Even con chairs seemed overall uninformed.
8. The guest of honor is not responsible for running the show and guiding staff. They should not be doing the job of the chairs.
12. Don't waste valuable staff on nonessential positions.
13. PR is an essential role. Attendees deserve relevant, advance, & ongoing communication of what's going on.
14. Don't plan to run things you do not have the staff for.
15. Proof-read the con book, then do it again.
3. Arrange for AV rentals ahead of time, not on the afternoon of day 1.
4. Set it up on day 0.
5. Include a time block for sound check before concerts.
6. If there's too much stuff on stage for performers/panelists to actually be up there, you need a different stage setup.
Oh my gods, my Snapchat memories just reminded me that 5 years ago I got us a custom event Snapchat filter for

Today is payday, and my check was 3x as fat as usual. I looked closer and realized it's because I've been with this company long enough to get a tuition reimbursement so they just added it to my check without telling me. What a nice surprise ๐ฅบ๐ญ
The first thing I'm gonna do when my broken foot is fully healed is get a deluxe pedicure. The one where they do a massage and a sugar scrub, and hot stones and all the bells and whistles.

A first grade student tried to pull the dermal out of my face today. She did not stop as I said "ow" repeatedly, so I turned it into a social skills lesson.
