( 1 and half miles away) this lovely Friday evening in Edinburgh's West End....aye laddie.
smile!
Sometime in 1978 Jim Kerr came to meet me in my office above my record shop in Shandwick Place Edinburgh. That was the beginning of a special time in my life...his too I suspect.
I walk past the old place most days...smile.

Why is
@pritipatel
anti music and musicians ? British musicians have have raised billions of pounds in overseas income for the exchequer every year since the 60s. Failing to negotiate 'visa free' movement for musicians coming and going to the EU when it was offered is scandalous.

When the musicians in the anti apartheid movement in the UK, fronted by Jerry Dammers got together to put on the Nelson Mandela tribute concert at Wembley Stadium 1988, all of us involved were accused of being 'terrorist sympathizers' oh the irony!

I am very sad to hear Colin Somerville has died. Colin gave me a Sunday slot on Radio Forth ( Bruce's Sunday Joint ) back in 1990 and then again a few year's later with a 4 night's a week slot on Scot FM. He was a huge influence and champion of Scottish popular music . RIP Colin
Got my pre-release copy today.
I've read the first few chapters...it's brilliant and gives an amazing, insightful picture of those early years.The wonderful camaraderie that makes great bands and music.

This is where it all began,
Falkirk ....1967.
Our first shop.
Why did we start in Falkirk?
Well we moved there in 1959 and we both worked for Angus Macdougall's.Brian in Hi-Fi and TV and me in the record dept.(our mother was the manager)
Falkirk was 'buzzing' in the '60s
smile.
Since we're talking 'early Simple Minds '.... The American. When this was released in early 1981 I was convinced it would be a huge hit. It became a crowd favourite live ( check the Dortmund version on YouTube) but only scraped the top 75. What a song !
@BeatlesEarth
I was there....an amazing evening.
Denny Laine and his Electric String Band and Procul Harem opened for Jimi.
Chas Chandler ( of The Animals and Jimi's manager) put me and my new wife on the guest list as a wedding present.
We'd made friends the year before in Majorca....fab.
Hey thanks for the dozens of good luck wishes from friends family and strangers earlier today....it worked! Those wonderful people at

Thanks to all the people who gave me information leading to us finding who crashed into my car last night.I've spoken to the police and my insurance company and the matter is now being 'resolved'.
Thanks too for all the good wishes.I'm a lucky guy,it could have been so much worse
This was one of 5 demo tracks that Jim Kerr brought to my office in 1978. It blew me away.
The version recorded for their debut LP (and single), sadly lost the 'edge' this original demo had.
.........'Chelsea Girl' ( Ca Va demo)
'Simple Minds'
One good thing about having been around since 1944...I got to see Alex with his 'Soul Band' in the early 60s and again in the '70s with ...'The Sensational Alex Harvey Band'
We even got to know each other. The most talented inspirational and unique of artists( fantastic live).
From right to left looking at the picture....Robert White, Jimmy Devlin, Charlie Burchill, Jim Kerr, Billy Connolly and me.
What a day that was...1988.
So so sad to hear that Jaine Henderson has died. Jaine and her brother David were the inspiration for Simple Minds at their formation. Jaine with visuals and David with sound.They were friends and remained so till this day.
My thoughts are with David and his mum.

What has Gina Miller's Indian heritage got to do with this? Her opposition to this government is her democratic right. Are you denying her right as a British subject to oppose a government she obviously disagrees with ? She is certainly 'the best of British' ...

It was an amazing, but shocking documentary Nicky. The Rollers were a phenomenon, but at the end of the day, just young guys who deserved to enjoy their success. Tam scarred them, but shouldn't be allowed to scar their place in pop history.
Well done you...and Breagha !
Our first shop... Although we changed the name to Bruce's ( all because.. ' I Found It At Bruce's' on the bags became 'iconic' ) this address in Callander Riggs is where it all began for my brother Brian and myself.

Ondine's is always such a special place, and yesterday was no different. Fabulous food and wonderful service from a great team...thank you guys for a memorable day. x
Just got some very sad news.
Legendary 'soundman' and old friend, Johnny Ramsay ( 2 rows behind Jim. Fair hair and moustache) passed away yesterday. He did sound for Cafรฉ Jacques in mid 70s and provided the PA systems and did sound for Simple Minds for several years in early 80s.
My birthday treats keep coming and as well as a lovely video birthday message from
@GrantStottOnAir
I also got equally lovely birthday greetings on video from
@NickyAACampbell
and

.
Last night I had a great dinner with my daughters and son at Giuliano's. Fun times
I've had so many birthday greetings that I can't thank everyone individually, but thank you all for the good wishes. I'm dead chuffed.... Remember... music is the food of love ...hail hail Rock'n'Roll!

Thanks for good wishes folks....I'll be fine. The nurses and doctors at the hospital (Western General Edinburgh) were lovely and helpfull. The place was buzzing the whole time I was there....they didn't stop. Amazing.
For the avoidance of any doubt, I'm a 76 yr old ( 77 in Feb) shielded Scotsman living in the centre of Edinburgh and I am more than happy, if offered, to get the vaccine at any time day or night. Just saying and if it helps.

His salary is on public record.

Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley with an agenda before the interview starts.
Susanna is condescending and thoughtless in her questioning.
