Lost my dad today. It's been a very tough Thursday. Because of him & the fact he coached, my love of basketball began & never wavered. I will miss our hoops & especially
@GoJacksWBB
conversations. He sure loved Coach AJ and the girls who played in his program past & present.
Could use prayers for my dad as he begins chemotherapy starting Monday. He's pretty sick. We missed our first Summit League tournament together ever & w/ March Madness off as well it makes it double difficult as we loved to talk hoops w/ each other during these times.

Losing your last game is always tough. But one awesome thing about being in big playoff games is feeling the love, support & presence of your community while the action takes place & and as you prepare for it. You can truly feel it & that is something no loss can take away.
Time for the annual tweet stating that
@MidcoSN
should really see the Summit League tourney through to the end. They've put the heart and soul into the coverage along with all the work all year & know the league. ESPN will not! Thank you for the awesome coverage once again!
My daughter got her white coat at Yale today. In a few years she’ll be able to determine what you all have been wondering “what’s wrong with that guy(meaning me) anyway?” We’ll keep you posted. Proud of you Peyton!
Despite being a much later start, tomorrow is one of the greatest days of the year.... the first day basketball practice. Here's wishing all the MN HS coaches, players & your teams the best as you start on your own individual journeys.
2023-25 New MN BBB & GBB Section Alignments in an easy to look at format all in a single spot just for you & doesn't cost you anything. I couldn't wait any longer to share. Gray cells means a new class for that team.

School streaming links to use for watching MN HS Basketball Action this season. Only about 25% of them here, feel free to add yours to the bottom of the sheet or DM me and I will do it. If anything is wrong, help me correct it.
This'll be the final basketball game scored on the
@mnscorefeed
app this season. Thanks to all who helped make it an awesome tool for basketball fans, players & coaches. Thankful to have this be available to help us all be on top of the action. It's been a godsend.
Some day Ryan Dufault can tell his grandchildren the last shot he made as a Waseca Bluejay was a game winner to give his team first state title in over 100 years. It will go into the history of many great Dufault named players who were all part of the program. Great family
Of course, one gym everyone should want to play a game in is this one. The Corn Palace in Mitchell SD. Home of the MHS Kernels and DWU Tigers

On March 30, 1943, University of Wyoming men basketball team, led by jump-shot hero Kenny Sailors, defeats Georgetown 46-34 at Madison Square Garden for the NCAA championship. Sailors is named the tournament most outstanding player
I wear a mask every day & I don’t know whether to believe if they work or not. It doesn’t matter. It’s a common courtesy to wear & a very small price to pay on my part. It’s been the right thing to do all along. I guess my parents brought me up right.

Concluded my final 2021-22 basketball administrative work with the
@MNScoreFeed
app. Great 1st year! Thankful to be part of an amazing team of people who simply just enjoy HS sports like the rest of us. Appreciate all the help you gave & look forward to seeing what is next!
I am very happy winter sports kids are getting their opportunity to play & their coaches are getting to coach. That is it. That's the tweet. Let's play!
With the hiring of Casey Pack @ Maple Lake, we now have two current trios of Head coaching brothers in MN high school boys hoops. Packs(Chris, Casey & Colby) & the McDonald’s (Mike, Tom, & Joel). Have there been any others? Had to tweet once more sorry!
Frankly, it doesn't matter to me where you get your scores, however you will all have to admit the app has been a game changer in year one and helped the other spots work a little harder for you too. That's a credit to fans across the state doing what they can to help.
Since my dad passed, been doing a lot of thinking, what can I do to honor him?
I decided I'm going to coach basketball again & my return is lined up with a 4th grade GBB squad.
It's going to be quite rewarding & fun to teach the game again.
I may blog about this journey.
Some good fun rainy day material from 1991. Class A State tourney opening round BBB matchups with rosters. A lot of recognizable names from a premium period of HS hoops in MN.
With no football or VB, hopefully XC, soccer and swimming numbers get higher. What an opportunity to try something different. Kids might surprise themselves...
Michael Jordan is the best basketball player of all time. LBJ is the best athlete who has played basketball no question. But, if I need a big shot, a defensive stop, a good pass, a team player, true basketball things. I select MJ every time & that leads me to what I just said
Interesting how many HS athletic programs have zero presence on social media. Find that kid in your school who loves sports. Teach them social media procedures/etiquette & give them a platform to highlight your students. Boosts the teams, free publicity, & a resume builder too!
Before the year is over. THANK YOU to all the schools. individuals, camera operators, etc.. involved in offering ways for your communities & other interested parties to enjoy feeds or streams of your BB teams & games. It was certainly a godsend for the quick adaptation to do so
One last commentary I have on the Minnehaha/Sierra Canyon match up that I have not seen noted. The officials were fantastic imo. They let them be physical, but not too physical. They watched the situations, not the game. Whoever they were, kudos to them.
Not only the JCC/Caledonia boys game was crazy wild, the girls game finished 78-76 Huskies. 30 total three-pointers. Caledonia had 17 of those and that is a tie for 5th most ever in a MN GBB game. Unsure if record is kept for combined threes, but this would be up there too.
This is just my thought, what's yours? 20 minutes between the B(JV) & varsity games can be shortened to 12-15. More often than not it is 10+ minutes of chucking up 3 balls anyway.
Basketball is my escape. It’s what I think about when I don’t want to think about anything else. It’s how I cope with uncertainty and there's a lot of that currently. It has created an incredible community for me. Losing it right now hurts badly & I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Think before you criticize a man or woman who is taking time away from their family, their job, to be paid a minimum stipend that allows you, your children, your grandchildren to play a game. The presence of coaches & officials keeps HS athletics afloat. -Coach Larry McKenzie
It sure seemed those Nevis and RTR kids sure didn't want to play since it was just consolation. Small schools will compete every day no matter what. These should never go away again.
It has arrived! All we need is for everyone to get the app & have one responsible person/fan at each field/gym & you’ll have easily have every score you are looking for each night. It depends on us, no one else. From the creators of SD Scores, we now have this.
Positive news out of AZ for my family. Dad graduated to maintenance phase of his cancer treatments. Here's to hoping he and I can hit the Summit League tourney with each other again this year. It would be a great thing. Fingers crossed.....
Looks like the Target Center usage for the State boys basketball tournament will be limited to just opening round for AAAA and two first round AA games. The rest at the Barn or Concordia. Personally, happy to see this being the case. Atmosphere will be much better.
Someone got ahold of the "gym guy" again! City Auditorium in Caledonia. Built in 1938 I bet there were and are still some pretty amazing pick up games there.

Lost my dad a year ago today. Miss him dearly and especially during this month where our basketball talks were deep. We'd be eating breakfast now at the Pancake House getting ready for the Summit League tournament. Heart is a little heavy today, but I'll get through it.
I'm hoping everyone is as stoked as I am for that big high school boys game in Minnesota this Saturday. You know, Waseca vs Caledonia, the one in Rochester.
Here was our sudden death 3OT game winner today. My shoulder is just fine, but yes I was stoked for the girls. Everyone got a touch here. This will bring me smiles for life.
Tomorrow I resume coaching BB after a long layoff & will use this whistle which belonged to my dad whose drills,tips & tricks for youth 🏀 will be used if they are still applicable. Miss him greatly & would love to run the practice plan past him.
Dad would've turned 80 today. He's been gone 6 months now. Wish I could talk to him about our Cardinals, the Jackrabbits, basketball, our golf games, pickleball strategy, & basketball (yes I said that twice). Miss you greatly. Happy Birthday.
At any level.....The winter hoops season comes down often to what group of players are determined to stick with it when there are so many reasons not to. How long can you keep persisting? A true test of character.
Here is your one stop MN basketball (Girls & Boys) section tournament post season grid. All the links to the brackets which will move to yellow when ready to go. Just my small contribution looking up quicker.
Well, if those were the last athletic events of the fall season. I want to say thanks to all of the MN HS programs for doing your very best to be safe & competing to the best of your abilities. Having HS sports has been a much needed breath of fresh air for a lot of us.
For the 10th anniversary of the
#MNGymTour
, we gotta do it all again. I'll start with Ely and you should certainly add the gyms you are in this winter old, new or not even used anymore.
Proud Family and Team Moment tonight. 3000 Career Varsity Points for Henry. This man has worked his tail off to improve!! Thanks to all his teammates, coaches, and families in the community for the support!!!
The most under-the-radar role in high school athletics belongs to student managers. It is a great way to get involved and form friendships with the team. Did you know it is Student Manager Appreciation Week? Thank those individuals who hold these roles in your programs.

She's the glue of the Lakers. Her heart and effort is contagious & her teammates feed off of her desire to play hard til she can't anymore like she did in the first half. They owned the second half tonight.
Lakeview Lakers senior Savannah Rausch has cancer (Diffused Large B Cell Lymphoma) She is doing chemo and playing basketball! She contributed 4 points in her teams 62-47 win over LQPV in the Section 3A North playoffs!

I’d love free streams of the various quarterfinal hoop games to tonight, but the radio folks I have listened to are out there are killing it & it’s pretty awesome to have as an option. Their support & dedication is severely overlooked. Thanks radio teams!
Bit my tongue long enough. Maybe work on doing more than recycling same 30-40 stories every year & quit ripping/disrespecting those paying passionate Minnesota HS fans who are only simply cheering on their teams with all their heart. Believe it or not, they aren't always wrong.
Insider knowledge I have acquired over decades of watching high school basketball: When a team falls behind, its fans -- including adult males and females -- suddenly becoming extremely well-versed about the rules of the game and are not shy about sharing that information.
St Charles guard Kooper Vaughn's 26/26 FT performance Saturday will be in the National Record Books. It was a tie for second highest total in one game in the NFHS record books. He'll join this group.
Being a coach's kid myself, It's always extra meaningful for me to see a coach and his/her child win a title, so many congrats to Coach Pack and Ethan for earning this one together.
