I tell this story every year.
I grew up a Duke fan and had planned on staying in that night and watching hoops. Some buddies bet me that I had to go out to bars with them if Lehigh won, so I did.
Ended up meeting my wife that night.
Shoutout CJ McCollum
Jalen Suggs is the counter argument to HS kids going to the G League. He has raised his draft stock all season, has elevated his national profile with exposure and just became a legend.
College basketball still has a LOT to offer kids, especially once name/image/likeness passes
Hurley on the gameplan: "We didn't want to give up 3's. We didn't care if Edey took 25, 28 shots to get 35 points. The gameplan was no Smith, no Loyer, no Gillis, no Jones. Keep that collective to under 20 points as a group and they had no chance to win no matter what Edey did."
Reminder that Nate Oats is letting Brandon Miller and Jaden Bradley play tonight and appears ready to let them do so for the rest of the season.
That's not leadership.
Ok, we have record TV ratings. Interest is there. EA has already figured the licensing thing out for College Football 25.
We *need* a new college basketball video game!
The CW just switched from the end of a tied Duke-Georgia Tech game to a rerun of King of Queens.
Stayed that way for a minute or two before it switched back to the game.
WHAT IS HAPPENING
My grandpa passed away last night. It wasn’t due to COVID-19 but, because of it, we probably won’t be able to properly celebrate him for a while. He was a Navy veteran, fantastic family man, die-hard college basketball fan, and a legitimate hero. I learned so much from him.
You wanna know why the ACC is falling apart? UNC is having its best regular season in years and is currently playing a conference game on The CW against a team sponsored by New Balance
Seeing a lot of Cam Newton slander everywhere this morning. Incredible how many people forget how insanely good he was before the injuries mounted up. Took a terrible group of offensive weapons to a 15-1 record and the Super Bowl
Source: FAU transfer Johnell Davis was not admitted into Michigan. Staff currently trying to figure out ways around it.
Looking unlikely that the highly coveted transfer ends up a Wolverine.
Don’t think JMU is a program that’s a flash in the pan, either. Over 22K students & a big alumni base that is putting a *lot* of resources into its athletic department.
Given the resources, commitment & recruiting footprint, there’s a chance JMU becomes a premier mid-major job
The Mountain West reported a sellout of all five sessions at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
The Pac-12 is playing its (very exciting!) championship game in front of a half-full arena in the same city.
Says a lot!
Duke and Kansas are really good but UNC is showing why they’re the most balanced team on the country. Can beat you inside, outside, on the break, in the half court. And they play well defensively for good measure

Greg Gard deserves to be held in higher regard than I think he generally is. Wisconsin never takes the step back it’s perennially expected to. This Badgers team going toe-to-toe with Kansas is a huge testament to that
Texas Tech is Final Four good. A lot of that will depend on the region they’re placed in but I’m so impressed with the strides they’ve made offensively. They are legit

Braden Smith on Purdue’s focus, and why it didn’t celebrate making the Final Four for too long.
“Our goal was not to win an Elite Eight game and make the Final Four. Our goal is to win the national championship.”
Overlooked? Played at IMG Academy. Ended up playing at a major program from a major conference in Purdue. Why the dig at Barnes? He acts like hes some of kind of Rocky story.

So, the Final Four will have either:
A Clemson team that was 10-10 in its last 20 games before the NCAAT, including a 21-point loss to BC in the ACC Tournament
-OR-
An Alabama team that ranked 225th in AdjD in its last 10 games before the NCAAT.
March!
I don’t think Darrion Trammell would mind me sharing this now.
When he hit the portal, he told me that San Diego St’s pitch to him was “With you, we’re an Elite Eight team.”
Aztecs delivered on that promise - and Trammell certainly held up his end of the bargain
My daughter just picked Bryant to the Final Four because it sounds like my name. I am both very honored as her dad and very disappointed in her basketball knowledge
UConn's three losses this season:
-Kansas, who shot 64.3% from three
-Seton Hall, in a game where Clingan only played 14 min due to injury
-Creighton, who made 14 threes
The Huskies have steamrolled virtually everyone else.
Nate Oats on the Alabama fan base: "I want to thank them. They've really supported us since we've gotten here. People say this is a football school but there are a good number of basketball people, too. You can be good at both."
The more I watch them, the more I’m in on Iowa State as a Final Four team.
We’ll see how the bracket shakes out for the Cyclones, obviously, but this is a team capable of making it to Phoenix
Here’s the thing about Virginia’s offense - this isn’t a system issue or a Tony Bennett X-and-O issue.
UVA simply does not have anyone that can reliably create their own offense. Only three guys are worth putting on a scouting report. There’s *very* little offensive talent here
Teams on the left side of the bracket that are in the

One of those teams will be playing for a national championship.
#MarchMadness
The best part about March Madness is that it brings the country together.
The worst part is that it means people who don’t know ball shout stupidities about the teams involved.
FAU literally won more games this season than anyone else in the country.
Conference tournaments start today, which means that every eligible team can technically still win the national championship.
I love college basketball.
Don’t think people are fired up about NIT rule changes because everyone cares deeply about the NIT.
It’s because we’ve feared that non-power conference programs would be pushed out of the NCAA Tournament given realignment and this feels like the first step down that path
This is my first time at Mackey and the Paint Crew has been one of the stars of the show. Best student section I've seen. Engaged, creative, always yelling.
The most impressive thing about James Madison is that this lead isn’t because one guy is going off - it is legitimately beating Wisconsin up and down the roster. JMU has simply been better than a team that just played for the Big Ten title
Mike Woodson:
- Is 63 years old
- Has never coached in college
- Has never recruited
- Is 50 games under .500 in his career
- Wasn’t up for any other head jobs in NBA/NCAA
- Has been fired from his 1st 2 HC jobs because he’s, you know, 50 games under .500

South Carolina has finished in the top 4 in the SEC 3 of the last 4 years. After they finish blowing out Georgia, they’ll be in 4th again.
It’s maddening to think they could miss the NCAAs for the 4th time in 5 years. Terrible non-conf losses have been a huge problem.
Added another one to the family! We could not be more excited to welcome Bennett to the world at 8:28 this morning.
Mom crushed it like the rock star she is and is doing great. Bennett hasn’t stopped eating, meaning he already takes after me
Jaden Ivey just saved Purdue, but is doesn’t change the fact the Boilers gave up 46 points in the game’s final 14:30. Defense continues to be a problem for this group
Marquette wins the Big East regular season title outright - its first in program history - and there’s a real chance the Golden Eagles earn their highest NCAAT seed ever. Shaka Smart might be the National Coach of the Year
There’s so much about the Juwan Howard thing that looks awful on him.
He’s mad about a timeout that was called as a result of him pressing backups/walk-ons. He threw an open hand punch/grab that started a melee.
You can’t do that in general, but you CANNOT do that as head coach
The CW just switched from the end of a tied Duke-Georgia Tech game to a rerun of King of Queens.

Dutcher on why he has stuck with San Diego State for so long:
"I didn't want to move every 2/3/4 years. I didn't want to have the military lifestyle. Sometimes you're so worried about your next job that you don't enjoy the job you have."
Kansas State is now 0-8 in Elite Eight games since last making the Final Four in 1964.
The last three losses have come against non-power conference competition: Butler (5-seed in 2010), Loyola-Chicago (11-seed in 2018) and now FAU (9-seed in 2023).
