I’m ashamed that I’ve spent the last couple years denigrating
@Tyson_Fury
, both his ability in he ring and character as a person without really investigating who he is and what’s he’s gone through. I hope someday I’ll get to meet him even for a moment and apologize
Most delusional?
1) Adrian Broner vs Pacquiao: I beat that boy bad
2) Teofimo Lopez vs Kambosos : I won 10 of the 12 rounds
3) Rolly: I won every minute of every round
3 yrs ago tonite, 4/30/17, I suffered massive heart attack or what my doctors would later refer to as my "major event".It was an intensely painful and humbling experience. Thx to paramedics who worked on me at my house for a half hour and then on way to hospital. Glad to be alive
The treatment of
@albernstein
by that monumental jackass Broner is inexcusable. I hate that networks and promotions keep enabling this jerk. He never wins a big fight and then is always rewarded with bigger fight. Of all people to treat that way. Al Bernstein? Are you kidding me?
I've seen Caleb Plant fight a number of times, and he's a fine boxer, a solid main event guy. Good contender, good back-story. However, for the life of me, I've never seen anything in his arsenal that suggests he could trouble Canelo in any way. Canelo by KO second half of
fite
I would much rather see a Thurman-Pacquiao fight, with high potential for great action and intensity, than a rematch of Pacquiao-Mayweather.
Pac-Floyd was perhaps the most disappointing and boring fight of the 21st Century, 12 rounds of nothing happening Why rerun that?
On occasion of his birthday, I think of how Muhammad Ali gifted me a career. He granted me,a 19 year old student not even on the air, a 15 minute interview. I took the interview to my college radio station, and they gave me a weekly sports show.That was my start. Forever grateful
Today marked 1-yr anniversary of heart attack that nearly did me in. I celebrated by visiting the Cardio ICU to give thanks to nurses who attended me last April. On Fri it will be 1-yr anniversary of my open heart surgery. I’m grateful to paramedics, doctors, nurses who saved me
Today is Muhammad Ali’s birthday. He gave me my first radio interview when I was 19 years old, a full 15 minutes,
1 on 1. They put it on-the-air at my college radio station
@csunorthridge
and gave me my first show. That’s how my career started. Ali gave me 15 minutes and a career
Based on what I saw last night, 1) GGG is greatly diminished but not completely shot as a fighter and 2) Canelo is no longer getting better as he was for so many years, but is in fact, in slight decline
Ive suffered a major heart attack, major heart surgery and major heartbreak last 15 months. Cant tell you how much I’m looking forward to seeing, smiling, laughing with inductees, champs, fans, friends and entire boxing community
@nvbhof
Induction weekend Aug 17-18
@caesarspalace
So my daughter, formerly a paramedic/firefighter in Houston, wants to join the fight against corona virus in Austin, where she lives now. She signed up, got interviewed and will start tomorrow working emergency and testing people. She is totally psyched and I’m scared to death
That knockdown in the 12th is the prime example of what I’ve been screaming about for years, that a ref needs to count to ten, not just wave off a fight on a hard knockdown
Saw my cardiologist today and it was entirely upbeat. 3 years after my heart “event”, numbers and tests good, even the EKG I got today. Doc said I don’t even need to keep seeing twice a year, said come back next year. Said I can do everything, strenuous stuff too, yes even “that”
For the life of me I can’t explain nor understand the boxing media’s obsession and continued publicizing of Adrian Broner. The guy is a C+ fighter who has never beaten an elite fighter inside the ring and is an absolute embarrassment and disgrace to the sport outside the ring
I thought
@GGGBoxing
beat
@Canelo
in both fights, but I categorically reject the idea that Canelo is ducking fighters Check his resume. It’s the best in boxing today
My mom turns 95 today and is in nursing care so is not allowed to have visitors because of the Covid. So we talk to her through the window to her room and we set up in the grass outside for her party where she can see us
Probably my biggest misjudgment in assessing a fighter was
@canelo
who I felt at beginning of his career was just a novelty act, the red hair and all. Good chance to be one of greatest Mexican fighters of all time, but I still feel
@GGGBoxing
beat him twice, and 1st time handily
For those if you who today are, for some reason, comparing Broner to Zab
@SUPERJUDAH
let’s be clear about one thing. Zab did win some big fights, and was a 500x better fighter than Broner
You want to see boxing robberies? Go watch Whitaker- Chavez, Whitaker-Ramirez, Lewis-Holyfield 1, Patterson-Ellis, Louis-Walcott 1, GGG-Canelo. Those were outright shameful steals.
Beterbiev-Bivol? NOT a robbery.
I just don’t see how there can be any doubting the greatness of
@canelo
. This guy is etching his name in the history books. His resume is fantastic and he is the dominant fighter of this generation.
I think it’s time for boxing magazines, newspapers, websites and networks to stop recognizing WBA anymore. It is beyond ludicrous. 4 or 5 “world”champions within the same division?
4th anniversary of my open heart surgery following my intense major heart attack. Thanks to my surgeon Dr Brandl of
@renownhealth
for saving my life and giving me new life! 💜 I’m still standing 😎
@realDonaldTrump
Yeah right. When I’m feeding the homeless this Saturday and Monday, (something you wouldn’t know anything about) Im gonna ask them just how excited they and how much richer they are!!
For whatever reason
@danrafaelespn
seems to have built up enmity amongst some boxing fans and people. To me he is guy who has been completely devoted to the sport, loves to engage with fans(those chats)and covers every meaningful aspect of boxing. Hope and expect he emerges again
If Deontay Wilder had entered the ring with no costume, Mrs Wilder as referee, and no towel within reach of his corner, he was still getting knocked out Saturday night
I don’t think it was helping Teofimo any last night when he would come back to the corner, and his dad would tell him he won rounds that he clearly had lost. This had two effects: 1) It prevented any adjustments or change in strategy and 2) Skewed Teo’s perception of the scoring
On his 77th birthday, I give my everlasting thanks to
@MuhammadAli
for inviting me, as completely unknown college radio student, into his dressing room at NBC and giving me my first-ever interview. He gifted me 15 minutes which resulted in me getting on air and starting my career
Doesn’t keep me awake at night but I’ve never been offered an International Boxing HOF Ballot. 35 yrs broadcasting boxing on TV, 3 SoCalEmmys for boxing, decade+ boxing radio show in LA, wrote countless program pieces, CA Boxing HOF inductee. I see who votes, just wondering
I can’t believe some of these stupid ass boxing sites that start up on twitter with meaningless polls as clickbait: Who wins? Anthony Joshua or Willie Pep?
Who is the better trainer, Eddie Futch or Buboy?
Who wins a street fight, Don Dunphy or Jimmy Lennon Jr?
I’m not quite as happy and excited as some of my colleagues in boxing media about the brawls in the stands at Ruiz-Arreola last night. In fact I’m disappointed by cavalier attitude expressed in social media regards what went on. Out of such violence, tragedies are sometimes born
Can’t wait to see Bob Miller honored Saturday night before
@LAKings
game with unveiling of his statue outside Staples Ctr! My 1st LA job was working with Bob on Kings radio/TV broadcasts.He’s received every honor imaginable except Heisman Trophy which I’m sure he’ll get next year
My opinion for the past year has been that
@terencecrawford
is the best fighter on the planet. That was my opinion yesterday before Spence fought Porter and it is still my feeling now. Bud is
#1
PFP even if my broadcast colleagues try to pretend he doesn’t exist
I think in order to be a premium superstar athlete, you have to hate losing even more than you live winning. I didn’t get that feeling from Anthony Joshua last night. AJ seemed entirely too comfortable with the concept of losing last night
Assuming he retires, I’m glad
@MannyPacquiao
went out in a competitive fight and had some moments. In other words, he got beat, but not beaten up, nor embarrassed. It was not Joe Louis getting knocked out of the ring by Marciano, not Ali getting annihilated by Holmes and Berbick
50 years ago tonight Robert Kennedy was shot at Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. I’ve been looking high and wide for some type of special tonight on television and can’t find one. To me that’s a real mindblower and a disgrace
Having suffered a major heart attack three years ago with subsequent open heart surgery and several months of recovery and rehab, I’m happy that thing is still Ticking. So today I’m off to my cardiologist to check things out. ❤️
For first time in years I went to visit my late dad at cemetery. Buried literally just a few feet from him is my friend so I dropped off fliowers,paid my respects
I’ve had a blast on
@KFIAM640
this week, rediscovering my broadcast self. I really like re-connecting with LA, listeners, family and colleagues. KFI is the greatest radio address in the country
I’m not big on pound for pound lists, and I’m not gonna do one here. However, it’s pretty hard to think Naoya Inoue is not the best fighter in the world today. He is without question the hardest-hitting, and he damn sure is the most exciting fighter in the sport
Wished my mom a Happy Mother’s Day this morning. She’s 94 and been a lovely mom but I did remind her that she kept me on a steady diet of brown bag lunches of baloney and liverwurst sandwiches throughout grade and high school. Every day, either baloney or liverwurst
7 years ago, when I founded
@Nvbhof
the long-term goal was a permanent home in LV for fans to visit. The dream is about to be realized. Details shortly
Mandatory 8-counts have become mandatory 15-counts by referees. All this “put your hands up, walk to me, walk this way, walk that way, are you Ok? You want to continue? Look at me, blah, blah, blah
@BoxingKindgom14
Lucky punch? What is that? Did Ruiz not mean to land the punches he was throwing? And BTW, there were FOUR knockdowns of Joshua, which was the lucky one???
Leslie Stahl is against me Wah😩Kristin Welker is against me, Waaah😭Chris Wallace is against me, wah😫CNN is against me Wah😩 Whole media against me 😢Debate commission is against me😩Fauci against me😰FBI against me 😭 Suburban wives are against me😩Election rigged against me😩
I am completely blown away, saddened, gutted by passing of Marvelous Marvin Hagler. A great powerful man in ring, who shared softer side with fans when inducted 2015 into
@nvbhof
. Highlight that weekend was Marvin hugging it out with
@SugarRayLeonard
then crying at his Induction
