"8 weeks to a 6-figure tech job" is bullshit. Don't believe people selling that dream, it's a swindle. If you're a self-taught dev plan on at least 9 months of learning and practice. It's challenging, but you can do it and it's worth it!

If learning to code were super easy everyone would do it. It's hard. You can absolutely do it, but don't expect it to be easy. Be consistent, keep showing up, and you'll make it.

I prefer Go over Java on the back-end (in most cases) for a couple of reasons: Real binaries, statically compiled Simpler syntax No need for frameworks, strong std lib Lightweight, less memory consumption Java is a fine language, but I default to Go for backend work.

It's common knowledge that you sell a product, or you sell a service. But I think a 3rd category deserves its own bucket: **attention**. People use the term "productized services" to describe a sort of in between category, but when you look, it's really just services that are

Gatekeeping new developers is toxic. Pretending it's easier than it is to become a developer is toxic. You ABSOLUTELY can become a software developer as a self-taught learner. It takes dedication, and it will usually take between 6-18 months. But it's fun, and you can do it.

Data structures and algos are critical. Do you use them *every day* as a dev? Maybe not (though it depends on how you interpret that). HOWEVER, solving hard problems is what we're paid well for, and companies don't want devs that can't solve the hard problems when they DO arise.

I'm NOT saying you can't freelance. I'm NOT saying you can't start a startup. What I AM saying is that unless you have a specific reason to want to do those things, working a full-time job on a product-oriented team as your first gig is the best bet for most people.
