Thanks to Boom listener Sandy from Leeds who features in our latest TV ad campaign!
Sandy spotted herself in a photo of one of our earlier ads and got in touch to tell us more about the Beatles gig she attended in Leeds in 1963.
In tribute to Paul O'Grady, we're taking up your suggestion of repeating his final ever programme - from Christmas Day - opened by a few fitting words from Malcolm. Enjoy Paul's wonderful voice once more on Easter Sunday at 2.00.
We are so sad to bring you the news that Paul O'Grady has died. He was 67. His death was announced by his partner Andre Portasio. Our thoughts are with Andre, his family and friends.
"There are few broadcasters who attract the love Paul did. The response to his last show was enormous - listeners felt he'd popped around to their house over
lunch. That was his gift. Our thoughts are with his family and friends," Phil Riley, co-founder, Boom.
Today sees the funeral of Paul O'Grady. Our thoughts are with Paul's family and friends.
Dogs from Battersea Dogs & Cats home will form the guard of honour. The ceremony is private, but the procession will pass through Aldington in Kent before heading to the church.
From one friend to another. Very sad to announce that
@piratejw
will be putting down his headphones on Sunday 27th October. But happy he’s handing SOT70’s to
@WhisperingBob
. Another real radio man. We’ll miss the
@BBCRadio2
family and listeners
#endofanera
He doesn't play for our side, but nevertheless, huge congratulations to
@tonyblackburn
, who's been awarded an OBE for services to broadcasting and charity. Well done, Tony.
Over Christmas, listen out for Pete Murray and David Hamilton - together. With a combined age of 181 - we think it's radio's oldest double act! Pete's radio career began in the early '50s; David's in the late '50s. Pete was David's hero - now his friend.
Happy birthday today to a 97 year old. Pete Murray began broadcasting before the Queen's reign began. He's been heard on Radio Luxembourg, the BBC Light Programme and on the first day of Radio 1 and Radio 2. Also much-loved on LBC.
We do hope you can join us on Sunday at 2. Some people have suggested they are cooking a Christmas meal to accompany the programme - and that’s fine by us.
In tribute to Paul O'Grady, we're taking up your suggestion of repeating his final ever programme - from Christmas Day - opened by a few fitting words from Malcolm. Enjoy Paul's wonderful voice once more on Easter Sunday at 2.00.
He's now aged 90 - and on top form. The legendary Michael Aspel returns to radio on Sunday morning at 9.00 reunited with his old collegaue Graham Dene on Boom Radio. All part of our celebrations of 50 years of commercial radio.
We're so happy to report that in the official audience figures out today, our audiences have grown for the eighth successive time! Total listening has almost doubled in the last year. Not bad for a team of presenters - average age 70 - from their sheds, lofts and back-bedrooms!
Today, we mark two years on the air for Boom. Nothing could have prepared us for your generous feedback - it means the world to us. Thanks for listening to our station for our generation.
Congratulations to
@TonyBlackburn
- whose radio career began 60 years ago today as he joined Radio Caroline South! Happy anniversary, Tony - from all down the road at Boom.
Crackerjack, Ask Aspel, This is Your Life. The great Michael Aspel, now aged 90! He's on Boom on Oct 8th - reunited with Graham Dene as they remember their Capital Radio days together.
It's a bit like 'O'-Level results day for us as today as our latest audience figures arrive. Thanks to you, we've grown to over 630,000 listeners weekly - a growth of 119% on last year. May we say a huge thanks for listening - and for your support for Boom.
Happy 94th birthday to Dame Patricia Routledge. We’ve all known a Hyacinth Bucket character - of the type she played so energetically in ‘Keeping Up Appearances’.
We can never let Christmas day go by without marking the birthday of
@TheKennyEverett
. He would have been 79 - and likely still having fun on the radio.
Great to wake up to this lovely piece about us in the Sunday Times today. We're so happy to have forsaken our retirements to create our station - and you make it all worthwhile.
Official audience figures just out indicate Boom listening has grown 14% in a year - rising to record levels amongst our 55+ generation. And you listen more loyally than listeners to any other UK music station. Thanks!
This Christmas, we remember Paul O'Grady with his favourite music and fond stories from friends, fans and family. Enjoy 'Paul O’Grady - The Musical Celebration' - hosted by

Need we say more? Today at 2.00. It'll be sad - but hearing dear Paul's last show once more will make the UK smile again. Feel free to put stuffing in the oven.
We just want to say a huge thanks. Today, we received our first official audience figures – and they're better than we dreamed – not least because the counting started when we were just weeks old! Thank you – we couldn’t have done it without you. Boom!
Next week - Kenny Everett on Boom! We've secured the rights to air his amazing short sci-fi serial Captain Kremmen, originally broadcast in the '70s. Enjoy the episodes next week on Boom - just after 5 - as we celebrate his true radio genius!
Brian Matthew died seven years ago today. A real part of radio and music history - with the Light Programme's 'Saturday Club', 'My Top 12', ''Round Midnight' and 'Sounds of the 60s'. He served the BBC for 63 years. Never forgotten.
The latest official audience figures are out - and they indicate we have more listeners than ever! May we say thanks for your support - and for telling your friends about Boom. It means a lot to us.
Today, we salute the true brilliance of Dusty! She would have been 85. So many quality performances to choose from - which is your favourite Dusty song?
Congratulations to David Hamilton on 65 years on the air! He made his debut on 5th April 1959 with a "brand new beat music programme" on Forces radio. Congratulations, David!
Need we say more? Today at 2.00. It'll be sad - but hearing dear Paul's last show once more will make the UK smile again. Feel free to put stuffing in the oven.
Forgive us. Today meant a lot to our team. A new Beatles single played on Boom by the guy who played the earlier Beatles songs for the first time on the pirate ships - and the guy who'd sat at Lennon's piano.
I am very sad to say that my dear friend of over 60 years and producer of
@BBCRadio2
Sound of the Sixties passed away yesterday afternoon after a long illness.I am so glad I saw him and his wife Lynsey last Friday. Phil, the Collector, Swern will be missed by us all.

60 years ago this month, our David Hamilton was first heard on BBC radio - hosting 'The Beat Show' on the BBC Light Programme. Happy anniversary, David - you've been part of our lives! Here he is with Connie Francis.
Today in 1964, UK radio changed forever as Radio Caroline began broadcasting. What do you recall of those pirate radio days? Roger Day has memories and music tonight on '60s at 6'.
