40,000 came to Randwick this day 6/4/96 and they weren’t disappointed with the great Octagonal winning his 4th Gr1 in 28 days, the Australian Derby. What a season for 3YOs Occy always pulled the big wins out of the fire. 5 Group 1 wins in the season inc the Cox Plate #TurfGreat

Sad to hear of the passing of Tommy Hughes snr. Great trainer in an era of the icons Hayes, Cummings and Smith. Tommy had some wonderful horses in his time. Grand Cidium, Salamander, Rechabite and a favourite for me as a teen Heroic Stone. Loved a plunge, from a great era #RIP 🙏
