I wish more people would become Sales engineers or go into tech sales. I will keep bringing visibility to it. If they knew the flexibility you get and the money. I promise yall it's worth it

Next year I'm getting more black people into the Sales Engineer role. If people knew how flexible the role was. I been working remotely for over 5 years. No Sales Engineer makes less than 6 figures unless it's really entry level & that still make a good amount.
If you are looking to break into tech sales as a Sales engineer 2 companies you should consider:
- Servicenow has a 6 month program that teaches you how to be a sales engineer called Solution consulting academy
- Cisco also has an SE academy
Check out both websites for more
Tech sales requirements:
So a common question I get is, what do I need to get in?
1. Do you need a degree no not a requirement but won't hurt
2. Do you need a particular cert? No, you don't need them. Having some may help depending on vendor.
3. If I don't need certs or degree
Black people in tech when you make it, make sure to hold the door open for other black people. Why do I post tips and things to get black people in positions? I want y'all to have the blueprint I didn't have. I had to navigate and learn through experience & trial-and-error. The
I love my job. I called my manager (who is white) told him mentally I'm struggling with the Chauvin case & need him to help carry a meeting I have coming up. He empathized, said he would be more than happy to help. Love Proofpoint best place I ever worked
I want more black people to be Sales Engineers

It's been a while since I talked about being a Sales Engineer and the benefits. This thread may be long but in going to answer all the questions here. I will talk about what it is, ways to become and really use the as FAQ. So strap up here we go.
Let's talk about one of the best benefits of being in tech. You get to build your brand and fund your own business ideas.
1.Because of the salary in tech you get the chance to be your own source of capital.
2. This is why negotiating for stock options is really important
When I got my 1st big job it changed my life. I was able to start eating better organic foods, take trips, but things for myself. Leveling up items a new way of life. This is one of the perks of the work you put in
Once you are an OG in tech. It's a responsibility to help out the next gen. If you black help the younger blacks in tech. Be what they need because they may not have the strength you had to make it on their own. Each generation should be better than the last. Let's help others ✊🏾
Disciplines to focus on in tech that will carry you for the next few years:
1. Zero trust ( if you don't know what it is, just think of your network not trusting anyone)
2. Cloud security/infrastructure
3. Email security (always steady)
4. Threat analysis/malware research
Question, if you are happy with your present employment do you still entertain interview offers from other companies? I usually don't but trying to see if I should change that.
Had my 1 on 1 with my manager today. We looked at the numbers & I'm ranked
#1
for Sales Engineers. I set out this year to be
#1
& I'm doing it. 3 more months & the goal will be met. I wasn't afraid to dream big I don't know if a Blackman has ever been
#1
but I'm gone do it.
This is my personal bias but here are a few of the best places to live to have a good career in tech sales:
1. Texas ( Austin is a goldmine)
2. Atlanta is a small hub
3. Chicago ( companies always need a lot of people here)
4. San jose/San Fran ( this is birth place of tech)

That's very true. People don't understand the responsibility & guilt you feel for being the 1st. You see your people struggling when you not. If you compassionate you will want to help. It takes time to understand its okay to have & that God is working out stuff for them
3. Backed by large tech companies
4. The training is free again free for sdr and bdr
5. They offer mentors, resume building and mock interview preparation as a few things
6. They also have a heavy focus on black, Latino groups but not restricted to that.
Turned 43 yesterday & my wife made it the most amazing birthday. She put a lot of my favorite people in the room for a surprise party. My heart is so full!
When I worked at Tenable I experienced extreme racism. When I first joined it was a dream company CEO was really cool, and had a great culture. That all changed when I they hired the sales rep I was paired with. He seemed cool but he was racist. He would do things i wasn't
13. To try here is a list of companies this isn't all
- servicenow (great stock)
- Fortinet
- palo alto
-datadog
- Abnormal
- Cisco
- any Security awareness company
- search siem solutions
- look for data security, or data protection companies
There are more
So
@KeirstenBrager
got me thinking let me dedicate a thread to what a Sales Engineer is. If you got questions feel free to ask here or dm. Most people fear they will have to be overly sales focused so they shy away. Below is the description of what Sales Engineers do
Roles you should look for
1. Sales development rep (entry level)
2. Business development rep
3. Renewal rep
4. Customer service manager (manage relationships)
5. Commercial account manager requires minimum experience
6. Sales engineer
All these roles will get you in
I'm so blessed & fortunate to be a Sales Engineer. There are elements of my job that I love. Yall should look into it. I get paid like a Doctor minus their stress.
One thing we don't talk about enough in tech is that it's ok to take a break. You don't have to study on weekends and do labs all day. That will lead you to being burned out and never enjoying the tech journey. Just be consistent and you will have success.
Do I have any tech followers in the Austin Texas, DC area & ATL area that would be open to pursuing a Sales Engineer position? You gone need experience as a Sys admin at least & be good with people. This is for Proofpoint hit me up not racist but im looking for black candidates
Yall don't understand I don't like charging people for helping so I'm so ecstatic right now. I love pouring into people, helping you see what's possible. It's a world of potential covered by limits placed on us. I used to dream of making 50k a year just made that last month. We up
One thing social media did was give people more courage than they really have. Most the stuff people say on here they wouldn't say it in person to that person. Lot of keyboard gangsters
I've never talked about this story publicly really but why not. Let me share how I experienced racism working at Barracuda networks. So I started there in 2010 I was the 2nd black hire for the office in Michigan. I worked in tech support.
